The external brickwork of the towers and windows are of Moorish design, and the horseshoe-shaped internal arches by David Long are reminiscent of medieval Spanish architecture. This gorgeous and majestic church has parts of its structure dating back to various eras. The former Norman chapel on this site was built in 1291 and it was replaced by a Decorated structure around 1320. Having many wonderful features, one of which is the outstanding seven screens carved by Peter Hodge with motifs, this church has been included in Cliff Taylor's list of 'best English parish churches'. The Georgian paneling, magnificent chandeliers, the Victorian carved-wood ceiling and the splendid stained glass windows are some other elements that set this church apart.
