Despite challenges, several success stories and good practices have emerged and significant targets have been achieved. “Journey of JTELP” is a “story of change”, a story reflected in the greenery of land and smiles on faces of beneficiaries. -

BIDAR, January 22, 2014 Farmers urged to focus on food processing Better markets for farm produce will solve half the problems farmers face today, the former vice-chancellor of University of Agriculture Sciences, Dharwad, S.A. Patil said at Basava Kalyan on Tuesday. He was speaking at a session organised at the Basava Utsav. Mr. Patil said middlemen were depriving farmers of a better price for their farm produce. “Middlemen control the lives of farmers as they double up as moneylenders and input suppliers. To escape from their clutches, farmers should focus on food processing and finding better markets for their produce,” he said. He cited examples of farmers who turned to be frugal innovators. They used available resources to find solutions to their problems. In this sense, farmers have proven to be better farm scientists than many of resource persons in research institutions, he said. -

Executive Summary Ranchi University came into existence on the 12th of July, 1960 as a teaching- cum-affiliating University with headquarters at Ranchi. At the time of inception Ranchi University covered whole of present day Jharkhand, except Santhal Parganas. In 1992, Ranchi University was bifurcated to create Vinoba Bhave Ranchi University, reducing its area by nearly half. In 2009 Ranchi University was divided twice – in January to create Nilambar Pitambar University, at Medininagar, and in August 2009 to create Kolhan University, at Chaibasa. At present, Ranchi University spans five districts of Jharkhand, namely, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga. The University today has 15 Constituent Colleges, and 55 affiliated colleges/ institutes. They include Medical College, Engineering College, Law College, Institutes of Management, Institute of Psychiatry, Colleges imparting Bachelor of Education and Nursing etc. -

PHASE – I : DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND CLIMATE CHANGE INITIATIVE Initiative to build capacity of stakeholders on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in the State of Jharkhand PERIOD : OCTOBER 2016 – MAY 2017 Purpose of the Initiative • To build evidences, strengthen inclusive disaster mitigation planning at the state and district level. • To Orient and involve the communities in Jharkhand on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation. • To advocate for strengthening disaster mitigation, response and planning in Jharkhand. • To develop build and strengthen a strong platform for respective departments (Goj), Schools, PRI’s, CBO’s/NGO’s at each administrative level for emergency preparedness, Planning and Response. What did we do in Phase 01 • State Level - Disaster Sensitization (DRR and CCA) TOT of Government officials of Key Stakeholder departments for 01 day for improving planning on DRR and CCA in Jharkhand. This enabled the Key Stakeholders (Minimum 50 officials from different stakeholder department) from the state government, policy makers and development partners able to plan on DRR and CCA. • Divisional Level - Disaster Sensitization (DRR and CCA) workshops of the Key Government officials (Health, Social Welfare/ICDS, Rural Development, Urban Development, Education etc) in 05 Divisions of Jharkhand for 02 days. This facilitated the Capacity Building of Key Stakeholders at the Division Level and further incorporate the DRR and CCA interventions incorporated in PIP State Level Consultation on 22.12.2016 in the State Level Jharkhand Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction - experts from Disaster Management Department, Health Dept., Govt of Jharkhand, UNICEF, UNDP, MECON, CCL, Plan India, Save the Children amongst others were part of the panel of four core sessions which addressed resilient villages, resilient livelihood, resilient basic services, Gender Vulnerability and resilient cities to strengthen Planning and the DRR/CCA Road Map of Jharkhand. -
