A ceremonial parade was conducted as per the highest military traditions of the Indian Army which was attended by a spectrum of civil and military dignitaries including the Governor and Chief Minister of Jammu & . The purpose of the visit was to understand Indian Navy’s training Philosophy and Capabilities. The visit included a Training presentation and visit to professional training schools of the Navy at Kochi and one-day Vice Admiral AR Karve, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief presenting memento to the visit to INA. 12 Sainik Samachar September 1-15, 2017 The Jawans of Indian Army rescuing an old man from a flood-hit Army conducting rescue and relief operations in flood-hit districts of area in Bihar. r. Jagdish Mukhi, Lieutenant DGovernor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, commissioned IN LCU L52 into the Indian Navy on August 21, 2017 at Port Blair. IN LCU L52 is the second Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mk-IV class to be inducted into the Indian Navy. The ship has been indigenously designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata. The commissioning of L-52 is yet another manifestation of the potential of the country’s indigenous design and ship building capability. LCU MK-IV ship is an amphibious ship with the primary role to transport and deploy Main Battle Tanks, Armoured Vehicles, troops and equipment from ship to shore. t Gen AK Sharma, General LOfficer Commanding 16 Corps flagged off a Mountaineering Expedition to Mount Kang Yatse from Nagrota on August 19, 2017. The Mountaineering Expedition was timed to commemorate the 71st Independence Day and mark the impervious tenacity, unflinching resolve and the never say die spirit of the White Knight Corps. Located in the daunting Range, the peak is over 21000 feet in altitude and involves scaling of two peaks part of the same massif, Kang Yatse–I and II. The 38 days long expedition encompassed negotiating treacherous terrain with altitudes ranging from 12000 feet to 21000 feet under sub-zero temperatures on a self-contained basis. The team being led by Major Varun Joshi, is a rich composition of experience and youth with members having summited multiple technical peaks in the past. Approachable from the beautiful town of Leh, a road head till marks the commencement of the arduous trek to the base camp of Kang Yatse. The route also crosses National Park, a high altitude national park, believed to have the highest density of snow leopards of any protected area in the world. Capacity Building Tour (CBT) to A Ludhiana and Chandigarh for 20 teenage boys and girls of remote and far flung areas of Rajouri District conducted by Army culminated, at Youth Center, Palma. The tour was conducted from August 2–12, 2017 with an aim to expose the participants to the industrial development taking place outside the State of J&K. For most of the youth, this was the first visit outside the State of Jammu and Kashmir and thus a unique experience, which enhanced their awareness about the technical expertise available outside the State of Jammu and Kashmir. During the tour, the participants visited various industrial units like Hero Cycle Factory, Monte Carlo Garment Factory and Verka Milk Plant. n the run up to the Independence IDay activities, cadets of the National Cadet Corps have initiated a drive to motivate children with special needs to facilitate their motor skills through a series of military parade demonstrations. The aim of this joint venture is to reach within, infuse a sense of awakening in the children and facilitate a response. It would also provide a platform for the NCC cadets to be exposed to children with special needs and contribute in community development as part of their social service activities. Naval NCC cadets of College of Engineering, Guindy demonstrated a shortened version of a parade for the children of Vidyasagar (erstwhile Spastic Society of India). The cadets led by Capt Suresh Babu, the Commanding Officer of 4 (TN) Naval Technical Unit, NCC carried out a series of synchronized drill movements in front of the children at the Vidyasagar premises located at Kotturpuram.
