_____________________________________Trainee Competency Manual - Housekeeping HOUSEKEEPING: FIRST LEVEL: UNIT 1 PREPARE FOR WORK AND CLOSE WORK STANDARDS 1. Punctuality requirements are observed. 2. The trolley, bucket and caddy are cleaned, organized and made ready for use. 3. The right type and amount of cleaning agents and equipment for the job are collected and made ready for use. (See Note 1). 4. The right type and amount of guest amenities are collected so that the right type and amount can be left in each guest room. (See Note 2). 5. Work assignments are carried out within the time allowed. 6. Any problems or important information are promptly reported to a supervisor. (See Note 3). 7. Any linen required to complete work assignments is promptly picked up at Laundry. 8. After use, the trolley and bucket are stored according to house procedures and any items which are required to be returned are handed in. 9. Prior to the second quarter of the nineteenth century when mass-produced cast iron and steel stoves were more available nationwide, cooking was a labor-intensive chore done on an open fire in a fireplace. Wood or coal had to be hauled into the house, and ashes removed daily. Worse was the limited variety of food that could be cooked by this method. Kettles of stews or soups were easy enough, but the art of banking fires over Dutch ovens or piles of bricks or stones for baking took consider- able experience. Likewise, choosing the types of wood that burned hotter or longer and then arranging the fuels for consistent fires required great skill. Figure 3-1. Please do not spray directly into the light fixtures or onto cloth furniture. Instead spray onto a rag and wipe these items down. Rooms are not to be entered during in between guests after it has been cleaned and sanitized. Before entering a room for cleaning, open doors and window and allow room to air out for at least 20 minutes. You must wear a mask while cleaning rooms. Gloves should be worn during cleaning of room and need to be properly removed and replaced before cleaning the next room. Hands should also be washed in between cleaning rooms for 20 seconds with soap and water or by using hand sanitizer.

    HHOOUUSSEEKKEEEEPPIINNGG SSTTAANNDDAARRDDSS Introduction Maintaining a clean apartment is the responsibility of the resident. It is always the responsibility of the resident to report all deficiencies to the Park Towers office. Park Towers’ management fully expects normal wear and tear over time, however, if it is tenant damage, you will be charged. If you are unable to clean your apartment, you should make arrangements for assistance. The following pages describe required housekeeping standards for each room in your apartment The standards are established to assure the continued good quality of your apartment and to avoid any health and safety risks to you or your neighbors. The Park Towers’ Housekeeping Standards are divided into two parts: CLEANING/ REPAIRS and A DEFINITIONS section at the end explains some words used in the Standards. CLEANING Cleaning is the responsibility of the resident. A. ALL ROOMS 1. Walls and Ceilings: Surfaces shall be free from dirt, cobwebs, marks, mold, adhesives and grime. Borders and wallpaper are not allowed. 2. Floor, baseboards and corners: Floors, baseboards, and corners shall be free from the accumulation of dirt, stains, and grease. Carpet shall be kept clean and sanitary and free of the accumulation of dirt, litters, paint and stains. Effective June 1, 2019 Page 1 Please follow these guidelines for cleaning the floors: A. If you have VCT tile it is recommended to use Dawn dish soap and warm water or warm water and vinegar to clean your floor. If you want to wax your floor, we recommend Zep floor polish.
