ST AUGUSTINE of CANTERBURY MAY 26th With other monks, in about AD 596, the Italian Saint Augustine was sent by Pope Gregory to evangelize the heathen Anglo-Saxons at what is now known as Britain. Received with great caution by King Ethelbert at Kent, he was allowed to preach, and he was given a house in Caterbury. Baptising King Ethelbert and numerous numbers of his people in AD 601, St Augustine worked to build the first cathedral at Cantebury where he became its first bishop. He also founded the Sts. Peter and Paul Monastery at Canterbury, and he established Sees at both Rochester and London. Although controversary exits, he is considered the “apostleof the English”. Pope Gregory directed St Augustine not to destroy pagan temples, but only the idols within. He founded a school in Canterbury that was known for producing books and an established a library. The manuscript referred to as “The Gospels of St Augustine” was brought by him to England, and is used for the enthronement of archbishops of Canterbury. Thought to be a miracle worker throughout his life, his feast day is celebrated on May 26th (some say May 27th), which was the day of his death. No pictures or drawings of him exist, but his thought to be likeness is featured in a stained-glass window design at Christ College, Oxford. He is considered the patron for both printers and theologians. THANK YOU TO . .THE MUSIC TEAM FOR . THE ALTAR GUILD FOR ALL . NEW YORK NUNS MOVE TO ACNA Sisters of the oldest Anglican order in the USA (1865) voted in April to leave The Episcopal Church and affiliate with the Anglican Church in North America. The Community of St. Mary- Eastern Province is now part of the Diocese of the Living Word with Bishop Julian Dobbs. Currently situated in Greenwich, New York, the sisters operate a small farm where they host retreats and practice a healing ministry. On joining ACNA Morther Miriam stated: “We believe in so doing we stay within the rich traditions of historic Anglican doctrine and worship rather than acquience to the cultural maelstrom many Christian denominations try to accommodate.” Their website is: www.stmaryseast.net SUNDAY - MAY 9th SUNDAY – MAY 30th ASCENSION DAY – MAY 13th WHAT ARE ROGATION DAYS? The 6th Sunday in Easter is traditionally known as “Rogation Sunday.” This is because the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the following week are known as the “Rogation Days,” days for fasting and prayer. The Thursday of that week is the feast of the Ascension, which comes on a Thursday, the 40th day after Easter (when Easter Sunday is counted as the 1st day). “Rogation Days are the three days preceding Ascension Day, especially devoted to asking for God’s blessing on agriculture and industry”. Churches will often mark the Rogation days with a “Rogation procession,” and the praying of the Great Litany. As the 2019 BCP notes, “The Great Litany is especially appropriate for Rogation days, other days of fasting or thanksgiving, and occasions of solemn and comprehensive entreaty” (pg. 6). ST PETER’S FLEECE VESTS AVAILABLE A limited number of handsome fleece vests are available for purchase by St Peter’s parishioners. Each vest has the St Peter’s Anglican Church red shield logo emblazoned on the upper left, along with the church’s name and location. The vests were secured in a special one-time only buy, and are limited to only 20 vests. Most vests are gray in color with a few in moss green. Each vest has two exterior zippered pockets and two interior pockets. Sizes are also limited as follows: medium, large, x-large and xx-large. Sorry, no smalls! The cost for each vest is only $25.00. If all vests are sold a small profit will go the parish’s College Scholarship Fund. Vests may be secured from Terry Dunn. ROBERT WILLIAMS 1925 – 2021 It is with sadness that we learned of the death of Robert Williams on March 29th of this year. Robert, and his wife Naomi who preceded him in death were most active in the life of St Peter’s after moving to Fort Collins from Estes Park. Robert was always supportive of Naomi who was usually engaged in parish activities, including chairing a very successful rummage sale that increased the parish’s building fund by over $5,000.00 Robert and Naomi were both born in England and each had moved to Canada for employment, but they only met and were eventually married in Canada. Most of his professional life was in the airline industry related to aircraft safety. Robert was a very quiet person who loved his family and the Lord. It was Robert who contributed the funds to remodel the church kitchen in loving memory of Naomi. On his departure in 2019 to elder care near his son in Missouri, he presented the brass bell which currently hangs at the kitchen entrance. He is survived by his son Adam, daughter Claire and grandson Douglas Williams. Please say a heart-felt prayer for Robert, and the next time you pass by the bell give it a gentle ring in his memory. SHORT INFORMATION NOTES Thank you for signing up for the Kings Soopers non-profit sharing program for St. Peter’s. This past month the church received a nice check for $56.31! Treasurer Jerry Webb reports that a total of $1,789.93 was collected for donation to the Bishop’s Well Fund. If you would like to have a new coin bottle to begin your coin collection for next year’s program you will find one in the church narthex. A new Kestrel nesting box has been added to the parking lot light pole in hopes of attracting a spring Kestrel couple.

Praying for Each Other A Guide to Praying for our Diocese, Congregations, and Clergy 2021 Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. Is 30:18,19 Dear People of the Diocese: Here we are, many months into the “perfect storm” of 2020, with 2021 on the horizon. We find ourselves shaken, but being shaken by circumstances is not the last word! We are also stirred up to mission. As the writer of Hebrews puts it, “Let us consider how to stir one another up to love and good works” (Heb. 10:24). So how do we stir one another up and move forward? Here are the key objectives I (along with Diocesan Staff) will be working on in 2021: Assist congregational leaders from every congregation in recruiting and training teams of intercessors that are networked in the Diocese for strategic prayer that results in spiritual breakthroughs, with signs and wonders. One aspect of this will be 30-minute intercession calls on Monday and Thursday mornings with me (whenever possible). Recruit, train, deploy, and support godly, healthy, and mature clergy who are able to preach, teach, and lead effectively. Assess, revitalize, network, resource, and support congregations for transformative discipleship, for fruitful, gift-based ministry, and for bold proclamation of the Gospel by every member of the Body.

THE CERTAIN TRUMPET Newsletter of the Fellowship of Concerned Churchmen Winter 2015-2016 ♦ Wallace Spaulding, Editor Who Supported The Fort Worth Congress? Forward in Faith, North America (FiF/NA), an organization that has consistently rejected revisions of historic holy order or doctrine, organized an International Catholic Congress of Anglicans this past July 13-17 in Fort Worth, Texas. Judging from sermons and talks given at the landmark meeting, its target audience appears to have been both the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), within which most of FiF/NA now operates, and the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON), which links ACNA and a number of Anglican Communion provinces, most of them in the global South. Galvanized within the last decade, mainly by the repeal of historic Christian teaching on homosexual practice in the U.S. Episcopal Church (TEC), both the ACNA and GAFCON contain elements that accept and that reject female priests. Thus, the resolution of this important difference along traditional lines would do much to clear the way for greater orthodox Anglican unity. The body referred to in the Congress' theme, “Restoring the Conciliar Church and her Mission” (italics added), of course had no women priests and reached its decisions by consensus of the whole group. The implied point of the theme is that positions taken by Ecumenical Councils recognized by the historic churches of the East and West – including that supporting an all-male priesthood – cannot properly be changed outside of that same authority. Most seemed to do rather well navigating the Zoom services during spring, and in the summer months with the switch to Facebook many still stayed connected. In spite to numerous technical challenges with cameras, cords, mics, etc. our special crew managed to keep us online even when facing these technology issues. With the Sunday outdoor services that started in June, we have been able to count on 70 to 90 plus participants weekly in spite of vacations, hot mornings and forest fire smoke. To date we have been blessed by rainless Sunday mornings. Plans have been considered to have our service inside; however, with the current Covid rules we will continue to meet outside on Sunday mornings.

  • 1 PLEDGE of SOLIDARITY & CALL to ACTION on Behalf of Christians and Other Small Religious Communities in Egypt, Iraq And
PLEDGE OF SOLIDARITY & CALL TO ACTION on behalf of Christians and Other Small Religious Communities in Egypt, Iraq and Syria May 7, 2014 FACTS In today’s Middle East, the majority of the Christian faith communities, which include Orthodox, Catholics, and Protestants, suffer violence, abuse and injustice from extremist Islamic forces by virtue of being Christian. Now facing an existential threat to their presence in the lands where Christianity has its roots, the Churches in the Middle East fear they have been largely ignored by their coreligionists in the West. Christians collectively form the largest religious group in the Middle East that is not Muslim, numbering up to 15 million people. In a siege that has accelerated over the past decade, Egypt, Iraq and Syria --– the three Middle Eastern countries with the largest Christian communities remaining -- have seen scores of churches deliberately destroyed, many clergy and laypeople targeted for death, kidnapping, intimidation and forcible conversion, and hundreds of thousands of believers driven from their countries. The Christian population in Lebanon, the only other indigenous Church community in the region numbering over 1 million, could be threatened by the instability across its country’s borders. No Christian tradition is spared in this current wave of persecution. While addressing the theme of Christian unity, Pope Francis has called this the "ecumenism of blood," meaning that the extremists do not discriminate among the Christians they are attacking. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has also spoken of the contemporary “crucifixion” of Christians. In these same three countries, other defenseless religious groups -- Mandeans, Yizidis, Baha'is, Ahmadis and others -- suffer similarly.
