Board of Directors

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2008 Summer Season! Our Shakespeare Festival is truly an international phenomenon. Last year, we welcomed visitors from 47 states and 14 countries, as well as thousands of San Diegans. At The Old Globe, art really does bring people together.

The Globe’s Capital Campaign, Securing A San Diego Landmark, has entered its final and most challenging phase. With 25% of the goal still to raise,we need the participation of the entire community. Twice before in the Globe’s73-year history, San Diego has rallied to support the Theatre at pivotal moments. I know we can count on you to help us with the critical tasks of updating our facilities, enhancing our artistic programs and growing our endowment.

One way to support the Campaign is through the purchase of individualized granite pavers for the newly-redesigned plaza, which will be complete in time for the Globe’s 75th anniversary in 2010. For this and other ways to help, please contact the Development Department at (619) 231-1941 x2317. Together, we can ensure that The Old Globe will be here in future generations for San Diego — and the world!

Education Experiences THE OLD GLOBE SUMMER SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE: Immersing Students in the Bard’sWork

Summer at The Old Globe is synonymous with Shakespeare. The San Diego community has embraced this annual feast for the Shakespeare-starved for many years. In addition to our local fans of the Bard, last year’s Summer Shakespeare Festival was enjoyed by people from 47 states and 14 countries around the world. The Old Globe knows classical theatre and it is part of our mission to provide “an environment for the growth and education of theatre professionals, audiences and the community at large.” This summer we continue building that environment for growth with an amazing Summer Shakespeare Intensive for high school students. This four week classical theatre training program will serve up to 40 students who auditioned in early March. During this summer’sIntensive,a core faculty of our Master of Fine Arts students will put those teens through some of the same challenging lessons they have learned in their graduate studies STUDENT PRODUCTION OF ROMEO Y JULIETA IN 2005 here.
