May 20, 202020, May SCHOOL OF THE ARTS CELEBRATION OF GRADUATES CONGRATULATIONS SCHOOL OF THE ARTS CELEBRATION OF GRADUATES MAY 20, 2020 Welcome and Recognitions Carol Becker DEAN OF FACULTY Introduction of Guest Speaker John Turturro Annette Insdorf PROFESSOR, FILM Address to Graduates John Turturro Recognition of Graduates Hilary Brougher CHAIR, FILM Brian Kulick CHAIR, THEATRE Matthew Buckingham CHAIR, VISUAL ARTS + SOUND ART Lis Harris CHAIR, WRITING Closing Remarks Carol Becker DEAN OF FACULTY John Turturro GUEST SPEAKER In a career spanning more than 35 years, John Turturro has worked with a number of acclaimed flmmakers, appearing in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever, Martin Scorsese’s The Color of Money, Robert Redford’s Quiz Show, Francesco Rosi’s La Tregua, Robert De Niro’s The Good Shepherd, Tom DiCillo’s Box of Moonlight and Nanni Moretti’s Mia Madre. He also starred in the Adam Sandler comedies Mr. Deeds, Anger Management and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, and appeared in three of Michael Bay’s blockbuster Transformer flms. He has been a frequent collaborator with Joel and Ethan Coen. For his lead role in the Coen brothers’ Barton Fink, Turturro won the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival and the David Donatello Award. He also appeared in their flms O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Miller’s Crossing and The Big Lebowski, where he played the iconic character Jesus Quintana. Turturro recently reprised Quintana in The Jesus Rolls, a flm he wrote, directed and stars in. He can also can be seen as Rabbi Lionel Bengelsdorf in the six-part HBO series The Plot Against America, based on the acclaimed novel by Philip Roth. He was recently announced in the role of Carmine Falcone in Warner Brothers’ The Batman. On television, Turturro won an Emmy Award for his guest appearance on Monk, and was nominated for an Emmy Award, Golden Globe and SAG Award for his role as criminal attorney John Stone in HBO’s The Night Of. He was also nominated for a SAG Award for his portrayal of Howard Cosell in Monday Night Mayhem, and nominated again for The Bronx Is Burning. Turturro received the Camera D’Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival for Mac, his directorial debut. His other flms as writer and director include Illuminata, Romance & Cigarettes, Passione, and Fading Gigolo. Turturro studied at SUNY New Paltz and the Yale School of Drama. For his stage debut he played the title role in John Patrick Shanley’s Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, for which he won an OBIE Award and a Theater World Award. Veteran classical actor Alvin Epstein (Waiting for Godot, The Three Penny Opera, Tuesdays with Morrie) will play Nagg and the legendary Broadway actress Elaine Stritch will play Nell. The one-act play, originally published in 1957, is considered to be one of Beckett’s most important works. Endgame will be directed by Andrei Belgrader (American Repertory Theatre’s Ubu Rock, Yale Repertory Theatre’s Scapin). L'uno (John Turturro) nel ruolo di gigolò, l'altro (Woody Allen) come suo agente, almeno fino a quando il primo non si innamorerà e, soprattutto, quando la loro impresa clandestina comincerà a destare sospetti all'interno della comunità ebrea ortodossa a cui appartengono. In molti passaggi, a cominciare dall'inizio, Gigolò per caso potrebbe sembrare un film di Woody Allen, e speriamo che John Turturro lo prenda come un complimento: lo è. Non sono molti i film in cui Woody recita al servizio di altri registi, ma questo è uno dei migliori, forse “il” migliore dai tempi di Il prestanome (Martin Ritt, 1976) e di Provaci ancora Sam (Herbert Ross, 1972). È verosimile che Turturro non abbia molto “diretto” Woody Allen, che imposta il personaggio di Murray ricorrendo a tutti i (sacrosanti) trucchi del mestiere: ma è anche vero, lo dicono tutti e l'hanno confermato a iosa gli italiani impegnati in To Rome with Love, che lo stesso Allen lascia grande libertà agli attori; ed è quindi lecito immaginare che il set di Gigolò per caso sia stato una scampagnata fra amici, con i due divi impegnati a sostenersi a vicenda e il direttore della fotografia Marco Pontecorvo, italiano (figlio di Gillo) e grande amico di Turturro, alle prese con l'unico assillo di tenere tutti nell'inquadratura.

Revenue is also the most important and intuitionistic feedback to producers, directors and actors. Therefore it is worth for us to put effort on analyzing what factors correlate to revenue, so that producers, directors and actors know how to get higher revenue on next movie by focusing on most correlated factors. Our project focuses on anaylzing all kinds of factors that correlated to revenue, for example, genres, elements in the movie, popularity, release month, runtime, vote average, vote count on website and cast etc. After analysis, we can clearly know what are the crucial factors to a movie's revenue and our analysis can be used as a guide for people shooting movies who want to earn higher renveue for their next movie. They can focus on those most correlated factors, for example, shooting specific genre and hire some actors who have higher average revenue.
