VISITING TEAM INFORMATION

Directions to the Ritchie Center from Denver International Airport From the terminal, go west on Peña Boulevard to I-70. Take I-70 west to I-225 south (towards Colorado Springs). Take I-225 south to I-25 north. Take I-25 north to University Boulevard south. When visiting teams arrive they may unload and park in the loading dock area located off of University Boulevard and Jewel Avenue, which is the first right turn past the Buchtel Boulevard stop light. See parking map on page 21.

The athletic sports that do not compete on the grounds of the Ritchie Center will be required to contact the Pioneer coach to make the necessary arrangements.

Officials Parking Officials will be assigned to a parking lot or parking space adjacent to the Ritchie Center. If necessary, their names will be added to the event parking lot list. Once on the list the parking lot attendants will allow officials to enter the lot. For additional information, please contact Chad McCallum, the Director of Athletic Events at 303-871-3821.

Host Staff A member of the Event Operations staff will greet visiting teams on game day upon arrival and direct them to their designated locker room(s). Teams are requested to contact the Pioneer coaching staff they are competing against, with their estimated time of arrival, flight information, and mode of transportation used.

Locker Rooms The visiting team locker room(s) will be available two hours prior to competition. An Event Operations Staff Member will be available to escort team members to the locker room. Towels, a dry erase board, and dry erase markers will be available upon request.

The officials will use the Officials Locker Room which will be available two hours prior to event time. An Event Operations Staff Member will escort the officials to the locker room. If there is a split crew of male/female officials, separate locker rooms can be assigned upon request.

Water will be provided in all locker rooms.

Practice Times Due to conferences, concerts, and recreational activities within the Ritchie Center please schedule practices well in advance of your arrival to ensure practice space and times. To schedule practices during your stay, please contact the Pioneer coach you are competing against (see directory on pages 15-17 for phone numbers) or the Ritchie Center Scheduling Office 303-871-7577. A University of Denver athletic trainer should also be contacted to be available at practices.

Event Day Protocol The protocol will be posted in the visiting team locker room as well as on the scorer’s table. 4

Student-Athlete/Parents Will Call Complimentary tickets are based on individual game contracts and/or conference policies. Complimentary Ticket Lists should be turned in 24 hours prior to the event. Will Call is located at the West Box Office located at the west entrance of the building. All guests must be clearly listed, including children over the age of two. All recipients must present proper identification at the Will Call window in order to receive a ticket. Those without identification will not receive a complimentary ticket. Visiting team complimentary ticket request form is located on pages 10-11. Individual institutions complimentary ticket lists will also be accepted.

Catering Sodexo is the exclusive caterer of the Ritchie Center. Sodexo must provide all food and beverage purchased by visiting teams while on University of Denver grounds, including the Ritchie Center. Visiting teams can rent a room inside the Ritchie Center for their team meals and have it catered by Sodexo from a selected menu. A selected menu also applies for teams that may be interested in ordering box meals for post-game travel.

PRACTICE/GAME MANAGEMENT EMERGENCY PLAN:

I. CALL (303) 871-3000 (CAMPUS SAFETY)

 Identify yourself, address, & telephone number of caller.  Provide the number of people injured.  Provide the condition of the student-athlete(s).  Provide first-aid treatment initiated by the first responder.  Specifically request an ambulance to be dispatched to location.  Provide specific directions needed to locate the emergency scene.  Provide other information as requested by dispatcher.

A. Emergency response for Magness Arena 1. Primary ambulance access is the loading dock located on the East side of the arena, accessed by the Zamboni door on the ice. 2. Secondary ambulance access during non-ice events would be the Buchtel circle, leaving the arena on the northwest corner. 3. Security, Game management, Coach, and/ or Student Athletic Trainer will meet the ambulance. B. Emergency Response to Joy Burns Arena 1. Primary ambulance access is the loading dock located on the East side of the arena, accessed by the hallway doors leading from Magness Arena to Joy Burns Arena. 2. Secondary ambulance access is located on the north side of Joy Burns Arena, in the Buchtel circle. 3. Security, Game management, Coach, and/ or Student Athletic Trainer will meet the ambulance. C. Emergency Response for the Main Varsity Athletic Training Room 1. Primary ambulance access is the North doors to the Buchtel Circle. 2. Access to Life Flight through the west core and bell tower and access to soccer fields for helipad. 3. Security, Game management, Coach, and/ or Student Athletic Trainer will meet the ambulance.

II. ROLE OF THE DIVISION OF ATHLETICS AND RECREATION PERSONNEL A. ROLE OF THE SPORTS MEDICINE STAFF 1. Team physician: diagnose and prescribe treatment and protocol. 2. Staff athletic trainer: evaluate severity of injuries, implement treatments, and therapy. 3. Duties a. Primary role is care and prevention of all injuries b. Implement emergency protocol. Designate when and who calls x3000 and/or 911 for ambulance service c. Stabilize and monitor the injured varsity scholar-athlete d. Coordinate the emergency personnel and athletics personnel to safely and expediently resolve the emergency situation B. ROLE OF THE EVENT MANAGER STAFF 1. Athletic Administration: safety and security of athletic events. 2. Game Management Staff- security, event management, control access of the facility, and overall conditions of the facility. 3. Duties a. Coordinate safety and security for athletic events and venues b. Assist sports medicine staff with gaining access to site of ambulance (unlock doors and gates) 7

c. Implement inspections of all the athletic facilities prior to each event d. Notify appropriate administrative personnel C. ACCESS TO FACILITIES 1. Facilities and Operation and/or Game Management Staff a. Have keys to gates, buildings, courts, practice fields, ice rink, swimming pools, and gymnastic areas for gaining ambulance access b. BOX OFFICE INFORMATION

Hours of Operation . Regular business hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. . On weekends and on event day only, the ticket office is open at 12:00p.m. for hockey, or two hours prior to event for all other events. . The Ticket Office will be closed on standard holidays when there are no events. The Ticket Office will maintain weekend hours on holidays when there is an event.

Sale of Tickets . Tickets for Pioneer athletic events are sold only through the Ritchie Center Box Office by calling 303-871- 2336 or online at www.denverpioneers.com . Purchases may be made in person at the Ritchie Center West Box Office anytime during regular business hours. . Complimentary tickets are based on individual game contracts and/or conference policies. . Group sales will be coordinated through the box office at 303-871-2682 . The Ritchie Center is fully handicap accessible and ADA compliant.

COMPLIMENTARY TICKET LIST In accordance with NCAA Bylaw 16.2.1 an institution may provide no more than four complimentary admissions per home or away contest to a student-athlete in the sport in which the individual participates. Complimentary admissions shall be provided through a pass list for individuals designated by the student- athlete. “Hard tickets” shall not be issued. The individual utilizing the complimentary admission must present identification to the person supervising the pass list at the admission gate. A partial or non-qualifier may receive only one ticket for him or herself at home contests only.

El Pomar Natatorium The El Pomar Natatorium, is an Olympic size swimming pool (50-meters by 25-yards) that features a moveable bulkhead, Colorado Timing System and scoreboard, 9 ½ -foot wide lanes, a minimum depth of 4 feet and a maximum depth of 13 feet.

Joy Burns Arena The Joy Burns Arena is the center's second North American-sized rink, located next to the Magness Arena. The Burns Arena accommodates varsity practice, youth hockey and figure-skating programs.

Coors Fitness Center The Coors Fitness Center is the region's premier fitness facility, featuring a 10,000-square-foot conditioning center with free weights, cardiovascular and aerobic equipment. Additional features include a two-story climbing wall; 20,000 square feet of exercise rooms for dance aerobics, martial arts, yoga and other programs; three multi-sport courts, a squash court and two racquetball/handball courts. The facility also has a day-care center.

Stapleton Tennis Pavilion The University of Denver's Benjamin F. Stapleton Jr. Tennis Pavilion has six top-quality outdoor courts for competition and varsity practice. The facility is floodlit and has grandstand seating for more than 300 overlooking Court One. The complex also houses locker rooms, and coaches' offices. Trimmed in stone and copper, the pavilion's exterior complements the nearby Ritchie Center. An underground garage provides parking for 124 vehicles. The public is invited to enjoy the pavilion. Memberships include free court time, reservation privileges and discounts on lessons, clinics and pro shop items.

Gates Fieldhouse The Gates Fieldhouse is host to recreation participants, a 10,000 square foot gymnastics facility and varsity practice. The multi-purpose synthetic sport court flooring offers unlimited opportunity for recreational uses including basketball, volleyball, badminton, indoor soccer, and roller hockey.

The Gottesfeld Room The Gottesfeld room provides an elegant reception space for small events and gatherings. It is adorned with eight Italian marble columns representing marble from different parts of the world and a sun deck with views of the entire Front Range.

The Williams Tower and Carillon The Williams Tower stands 215 feet tall from its base to its spire. Atop the tower is a 65-bell, five-and-one-half octave carillon, cast in the Netherlands, one of two in Colorado and one of the largest and finest musical instruments of its kind in the world.

Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium The north-facing stadium accommodates approximately 2,000 people and features stone walls with pre-cast concrete bench seating, locker rooms for the men’s and women’s lacrosse programs, public restrooms, a concession area, viewing pavilion/conference room and a two-direction press box that also serves the soccer field to the south.

Pioneer Field Pioneer Field is a sand-based, high performance, state of the art grass field. It is 55 yards wide by 100 yards long. It is the competition field for soccer and other recreational programs. The west-facing stadium accommodates approximately 2,000 people and features stone walls with pre-cast concrete.
