As was the case with the first Global Irish Civic Forum, held in 2015, Irish community leaders from around the world, drawn from emigrant and diaspora communities, came together in Dublin to discuss the challenges facing the Irish abroad. Over 220 attendees from 16 countries, representing more than 150 organisations dedicated to supporting Irish communities around the world participated in the Forum. Increasing connections and collaborations between organisations was a key theme at the Civic Forum. As part of our commitment to follow up, and acknowledging requests from Irish community groups, the Irish Abroad Unit has developed this Diaspora Directory to help all members of the Global Irish community to stay better connected to each other. Don’t forget that the Global Irish Hub also has other resources to help you connect and communicate better. This is the second edition of the Diaspora Directory which has grown from 360 entries to over 760. We acknowledge that not every Irish linked organisation around the globe is listed – it would be impossible for us to create an exhaustive list of every Irish linked organisation – but we hope that this is a good starting point for anyone looking to connect with Irish communities and groups around the world. The four criteria we used for inclusion in this Directory are: n Organisations that have been funded in the last five years by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Emigrant Support Programme. n Organisations that were represented at the 2015 and 2017 Global Irish Civic Forums. n Organisations recommended for inclusion by an Irish Embassy or Consulate. n Organisations funded by the Emigrant Support Programme GAA Global Games Development Fund. As a Department we have a strong commitment to upholding best practice in data protection and for this reason all the details in the Directory have been sourced from publicly available information. Organisations are grouped by geographic area and then alphabetically. We have also added “tags” to organisations, to aid in your search and to give an indication of the type of work the organisation is engaged in. The information and links in this document are valid as of 1 November 2017. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade bears no responsibility for the content of a third-party site or any subsequent links that it contains and has no control over the content or availability of such a site.
