Chatsworth House, Derbyshire Wilkins, I Thornton : GSB Prospection, 2005, 12pp, figs, refs, CD Work undertaken by: GSB Prospection The GPR survey identified the complex construction of the east and west walls. A number of uncertain additional features were also detected. A hidden chimney was located. The site had high magnetic disturbance levels but potential archaeology was identified, comprising of linear features, possible ridge and furrow and two enclosures. Zones of extreme magnetic variation were recorded by the magnetometer survey, almost certainly reflecting modern activities. A few linear anomalies were resolved as potential buried ditches, one possibly relating to an Iron Age feature. A possible pit or area of localised burning was also recorded. The survey was largely inconclusive. Airfield Farm, Market Hardborough, Leicestershire Robertson, F Thornton : GSB Prospection, 2005, 16pp, figs, refs Work undertaken by: GSB Prospection A large trapezoidal enclosure containing a smaller D-shaped enclosure, a ring ditch, and several pits were recorded. An associated field system was also noted. Some significantly enhanced ploughing trends may also have indicated and area of archaeology that had been ploughed out. Medbourne, Leicestershire Gaffney, C F & Sheil, D Thornton : GSB Prospection, 2005, 14pp, figs, refs, CD Work undertaken by: GSB Prospection A survey was carried out for Channel 4's "Time Team". Gradiometer survey successfully recorded the detailed layout of part of the Roman town, comprising a complex of linked enclosures or "ladder" settlement with numerous pits and probable burnt features. There was no obvious relationship between the settlement and projected line of the Roman road, suggesting that the road took a different line upon reaching the settlement. Gradiometer and resistance survey in the southern part of the site located a number of potential features associated with the postulated early Christian chapel site. The survey indicated that settlement continued further to the south than previously thought. Clarks Dale, Great Easton, Leicestershire Robertson, F Thornton : GSB Prospection, 2005, 9pp, figs, refs Work undertaken by: GSB Prospection Two groups of parallel ditch type anomalies were identified running through the site approximately northwest-southeast. These were thought to represent a trackway, however, a natural origin was also possible. Ridge and furrow and a possible headland were also recorded. Other trends and anomalies were noted, however, a large amount of modern debris may have been responsible for many of these. Magnetic Susceptibility and Magnetometer Survey Sabin, D & Donaldson, K Castle Combe : Archaeological Surveys, 2005, 38pp, colour pls, figs, tabs, refs Work undertaken by: Archaeological Surveys Magnetic susceptibility reconnaissance survey followed by targeted detailed magnetometry was carried out at the site. Significant amounts of material with a high ferrous content created much "noise" across the site, and was thought to be of relatively modern origin, related to ground make up. Low magnitude linear features indicative of ridge and furrow were also located. Areas of agriculture and one possible burnt area were recorded. Much of the survey area was affected by interference from overhead power lines.
