About the event

This event aims to foster collaboration between PROHEDEV and a range of stakeholders, including regional CTBs (Culture and Tourism Bureaux), Ethiopian and foreign universities research institutes and other organizations. The confer- ence activities and the subsequent ndings and proceedings will facilitate the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 by demonstrating the value of collabora- tion in the safeguarding and promotion of heritage for socio-economic develop- ment. Moreover, the activities are intended to strengthening the protection of heritage and in connecting stakeholders with donors and sources of funding as well as to extend comparable capacity-building and training activities to all regions of Ethiopia. The Conference is organized in order to provide information and capacity-building on the Conservation of masonry monuments. This is for the pur- pose of sharing examples of international best practice, building on the study visit of to the UK, and to establish a core of crafts persons capable of conserving monuments to an international standard. Moreover, it is also to utilize masonry monuments in as exemplars for the sustainable pro- tection of masonry monuments resource for tourism development and local iden- tity. The conference will oer the opportunity for knowledge sharing and to instill ideas of best practices presented by distinguished experts in Lime conservation. This workshop and conference will also provide an opportunity for hands on and in-depth analysis by local and international experts, regarding the protection and conservation of masonry monuments. 3-Day National Conference Conservation of Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments with Lime Royal Enclosure, Gondar World Heritage Site QWARA HOTEL and ROYAL ENCLOSURE, GONDAR The Conference will provide technical information and provide practical experience on both conservation techniques and the use of materials, to provide a thorough grounding in the subject.
