Announces: CAPRICORN ONE Composed and Conducted by JERRY GOLDSMITH Intrada MAF 7142 Jerry Goldsmith's score for the 1978 film Capricorn One unknowingly created a template for the next quarter-century of action scores. The cat-and-mouse chase and escape sequences afforded Goldsmith the opportunity to compose some of the most unique suspense and exciting action set-pieces of his lengthy career, not to mention the appearance of a subtly melancholy romantic theme that speaks to love tragically lost. Ten years ago, Intrada premiered the original film recordings on a limited edition CD that quickly sold out. The justifiably famous LP released at the time of the movie's debut was a re-recording made by Goldsmith, containing edited highlights, arranged and re- orchestrated by Goldsmith. Performances on the Intrada are crisper and cues have significant complex detail, including much of the electronics, which were deleted from the LP arrangement. Rather than simply re-use the master from the 2005 release, Intrada has rebuilt, reassembled and remastered the music to improve the sound, including an additional alternate not previously released. The conspiracy-thriller tells the story of a voyage to Mars. But did the astronauts ever reach their destination? In Capricorn One, a misguided attempt to save a failing space program results in a faked landing on Mars. They almost get away with it, too, until the real unmanned space capsule burns up during re-entry and the three "astronauts" find themselves facing certain execution. Cold Open: 2019 - the perfect year to talk about the moon landing. It’s the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing! IF we landed there at all. Duh duh DUH! A lot of skeptics think that we did not. That we still have not. And I like skeptics! Skepticism is good… to a point. As the cliche goes, it’s great to have an open mind, as long as it’s not SO open that your brain falls out. For this episode of The Suck, we are going to look at a lot of anti-moon landing skepticism and then you can decide if moon landing denial is reasonable skepticism, or, if wackadoodle brains have indeed fallen out of wackadoodle skulls. I get why people question the moon landing. I really do. I think the disbelief is less about the moon and more about not trusting the government in general. And, the government has for sure lied to us from time to time. And - the circumstances surrounding the Moon landing further fuel a faked landing scenario. The United States was in the middle of the cold war space race with the USSR and had everything to gain from getting to the moon first. Getting their first meant winning an important national morale race that had been ongoing for over a decade. The United States had INCENTIVE to fake a landing. A lot of it. We were EXTREMELY concerned with the Soviet Union in the 1950s and 1960s. The Cold War and the Big Red Scare was very much a part of US national culture. -

Jonathan Machado Professor Perera Our Moon 10/9/2019 We Never Went to the Moon by Bill Kaysing, Book Review and Summary Bill Kaysing, author of “We Never Went to the Moon” was a technical writer at Rocketdynes jet propulsion laboratory, a division of North American Aviation, from 1956-1963. His book was published in 1976 and he is regarded as a pioneer of the moon landing conspiracy. The organization of Kaysing’s book is a bit hard to follow, but follows a few common themes. I personally broke down his argument into 6 tenants: thought-provoking questions, the governments history of corruption, the landing was too big to fail, the pictures are fake, our science was not advanced enough, and the obscure Nevada location. Strange incidents and thought-provoking questions In the beginning of the book, Kaysing lists off a lot of unanswered questions that loosely support his conspiracy. Why were the astronauts quarantined when the moon is sterile? Why was astronaut training not publicized, when other aspects of their lives were? Why were the moonrocks rushed to Switzerland and what proof do we have that they were real? Why was the Apollo 6 mission much less polished compared to the next 6 missions? Just to name a few. Another situation brought up was the death of NASA whistleblower Thomas R Baron, an employee of North American Aviation. He did a 500-page report on issues of the program following the fire on pad 34, and shortly after he was killed when his car stalled in front of a train. -

Infatti egli e pochi altri fedelissimi dell’ente spaziale sono a conoscenza del fatto che un difetto di fabbricazione di un componente essenziale della navetta può mettere a rischio l’intera missione e addirittura la vita dei tre astronauti. Ma cosa fare adesso che gli occhi e le telecamere del mondo intero sono puntati sull’imminente partenza? L’idea del dottor James Kelloway è quella di inscenare un falso decollo, un falso viaggio e un falso atterraggio su Marte, trasportando i tre astronauti in una località segreta dalla quale trasmettere i collegamenti radio fasulli e il finto ammartaggio. Sembra che la grande cospirazione sia perfetta e che vada tutto liscio, ma un incidente nella fase di rientro della capsula “vuota” sulla Terra e lo zelante ed intuitivo giornalista Robert Caulfield (l’ottimo attore Elliott Gould) porteranno, dopo lunghe peripezie, la verità a galla. -

INVENTORY TO ARCHIVAL BOXES IN THE MOTION PICTURE, BROADCASTING, AND RECORDED SOUND DIVISION OF THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS Compiled by MBRS Staff (Last Update December 2017) Introduction The following is an inventory of film and television related paper and manuscript materials held by the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division of the Library of Congress. Our collection of paper materials includes continuities, scripts, tie-in-books, scrapbooks, press releases, newsreel summaries, publicity notebooks, press books, lobby cards, theater programs, production notes, and much more. These items have been acquired through copyright deposit, purchased, or gifted to the division. How to Use this Inventory The inventory is organized by box number with each letter representing a specific box type. The majority of the boxes listed include content information. Please note that over the years, the content of the boxes has been described in different ways and are not consistent. The “card” column used to refer to a set of card catalogs that documented our holdings of particular paper materials: press book, posters, continuity, reviews, and other. The majority of this information has been entered into our Merged Audiovisual Information System (MAVIS) database. Boxes indicating “MAVIS” in the last column have catalog records within the new database. To locate material, use the CTRL-F function to search the document by keyword, title, or format. Paper and manuscript materials are also listed in the MAVIS database. This database is only accessible on-site in the Moving Image Research Center. Another Turning Point USA poster displays Netflix’sHouse of Cards protagonist, Frank Underwood, saying “the road to power is paved with hypocrisy and casualties.” From Scandal and House of Cards to Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games, Turning Point USA’s leaflets and posters take advantage of popular culture’s recent fascination with tyrannical leaders to drive home its libertarian message: big government cannot be trusted. The conservative group hopes there is slippage among audiences’ understanding of fictionalized dramas and the way we think about American government. -
