BAM appoints Ryan Werner Programmer at Large for BAMcinématek

Joins Nellie Killian and David Reilly to form BAMcinemaFest programming team

Brooklyn, NY/Jan 29, 2014—BAM is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Werner to the post of Programmer at Large for BAMcinématek. Werner will work alongside BAMcinématek Programmers Nellie Killian and David Reilly to curate BAMcinemaFest, BAMcinématek’s annual festival of the best emerging voices in American independent cinema, which celebrates its sixth year in 2014. He will also collaborate with BAMcinématek to present premieres, sneak previews, and special events throughout the calendar year.

Werner brings a wealth of industry knowledge and experience to BAMcinématek. He recently joined Cinetic Media, a media advisory firm, and previously held the title of Senior Vice President of Marketing and Publicity at IFC Entertainment for seven years. An industry veteran, Werner has also held positions at Wellspring Media, Palm Pictures, and , and has done programming for the Woodstock and Philadelphia Film Festivals. Werner has worked with many acclaimed filmmakers over the years, including , Todd Solondz, , , , , , , Arnaud Desplechin, and , as well as emerging filmmakers such as Joe Swanberg, Armando Iannucci, Steve McQueen, Andrea Arnold, Aaron Katz, and Andrew Haigh.

BAMcinématek Programmers Killian and Reilly curate Brooklyn’s only daily, year-round repertory film program, presenting new and rarely seen , classics, work by local artists, and festivals of films from around the world, often with special appearances by directors, actors, and other guests.

Nellie Killian has been a programmer at BAMcinématek since 2012, curating series such as A Time for Burning: Cinema of the Civil Rights Movement and the upcoming Vengeance is Hers, as well as co-curating Hey, Girlfriend! with Lena Dunham. Before joining BAM, she was the founding director of Migrating Forms, which celebrated its fifth anniversary and inaugural presentation at BAM this past December. She was previously the director of The New York Underground and the archivist for the estate of Michael Powell.

David Reilly has been a programmer at BAMcinématek since 2011, curating series such as Booed at Cannes, Of Freaks and Men: The Films of Aleksei Balabanov, and the upcoming Kino Polska: New Polish Cinema. He also co-curates and oversees the annual BAMcinématek festivals New Voices in Black Cinema and Puppets on Film. He was previously the Project Coordinator for BAM’s President’s Office, and prior to that worked for Gartenberg Media Enterprises.
