Superintendent's Message SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE Dear MCS Parents: Welcome to Marietta City Schools. Whether this be your student’s first year or last year with us, we are privileged to serve you and your family during the 2017-2018 school year. Inside the pages of this document is any and everything you and your child need to know about the Marietta City School system but I would like to summarize every word from every page into one, simple message: You matter. Every single student in this district matters and our mission is to support each student to be what this community has proudly enabled over the course of the last 125 years – to teach, support, and lead each and every Marietta student to “be somebody”. Discrimination and harassment are prohibited in all School System programs and activities. This includes School System academic, extracurricular, athletic, and other School System programs, as well as on School System buses, during field trips, and in classes or training programs that take place on or off school grounds. This policy and the Report of Harassment form can be found on the Legal Information webpage at www.marietta-city.org or by contacting the school. ii ESSA PARENT NOTICE OF TEACHER and PARAPROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS ESSA PARENT NOTICE OF TEACHER and PARAPROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS In compliance with the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Marietta City Schools informs parents that you may request information about the professional qualifications of your child’s teacher(s) and paraprofessional(s) providing services to your child. The following information may be requested: • Whether the teacher/paraprofessional has met the Georgia Professional Standards Commission certification requirements for the grade level and subject area(s) in which he/she is teaching; • Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or other provisional status through which Georgia qualifications or certification criteria have been waived; • The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher and the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and • Whether the student is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications. Child Find responsibilities extend to all children suspected of having disabilities, including those attending private school and home school, regardless of the severity. Final identification of students with disabilities and programming for such students occurs only after an appropriate evaluation and a determination of eligibility by a Multidisciplinary Placement Team. Once it is determined a student is in need of special education and related services, he/she may receive these services up until their 22nd birthday. Since 1983, our organization has raised more than $4.7 billion—most of it $1 at a time—for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment and pay for uncompensated care, all in support of the mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. It’s been an incredible journey—one that continues to get better each year. Thanks to the tireless efforts and generous support of countless individuals and organizations, in 2012 we raised $300 million—that’s $36 million more than the previous year and a new fundraising record for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. As you can see, we are well on our way to reaching one billion dollars a year in fundraising by 2022, the ambitious 10-year goal we announced just last year. And we are fortunate to have a hardworking and diverse Network supporting us every step of the way. While we are proud and thankful to have achieved exceptional results in 2012, we realize that the need to support children’s hospitals continues to grow.
