Back to School with SeaChoice’s new Educator’s Guide

Vancouver – All the little fishes coming back to school can expect to have a whale of a year with activities from SeaChoice’s new Seafood Educator’s Guide, which is being circulated to teachers and schools across Canada this fall.

"The SeaChoice Educator’s Guide addresses big ocean issues – , biodiversity, pollution – in a fun and engaging way, empowering students and teachers to become ocean ambassadors and make a difference in how we treat the ocean, starting with their next meal”, said Colin Campbell from Sierra Club of BC, one of SeaChoice’s five member organisations.

This teaching kit is designed to help teachers educate students about the value of the oceans and issues, with a focus on solutions for their future. Each section provides a number of teaching resources, including suggestions for additional discussion topics, class activities, and project ideas that will liven up any classroom.

Educators from SeaChoice member groups, David Suzuki Foundation and Sierra Club BC, will be making classroom visits and showcasing the guide at teachers’ professional events and in teacher publications.

Developed by Natascia Tamburello, this kit is packed with fun and ocean-friendly themes that are sure to inspire any teacher's lesson plans. Parents, too, can use this kit to give their kids some ocean-friendly activities that are sure to please.

Formed in 2006, SeaChoice is a national program that provides science-based sustainability assessments of seafood to Canadian consumers, fishermen, chefs and businesses. The SeaChoice program is operated by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, David Suzuki Foundation, Ecology Action Centre, Living Oceans Society and Sierra Club BC, working in collaboration with the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s program.
