Thomas F. Love, Linfield College ETHNOGRAPHIES Energy related infrastructures are crucial to political organization. They shape the contours of states and international bodies, as well as corporations and communities, framing their material existence and their fears and idealizations of the future. Ethnographies of Power OF POWER brings together ethnographic studies of contemporary entanglements of energy and political power. Revisiting classic anthropological notions of power, it asks how changing energy related infrastructures are implicated in the consolidation, extension or subversion A Political Anthropology of Energy of contemporary political regimes and discovers what they tell us about politics today. Existing methodologies for community development, for the introduction of environmentally conscious productive activities in communities, and for implementation of environmentally sound operations were used as tools in the development of our methodology. Too, personal experience and systematic evaluation using matrixes of criteria were utilized in definition and formuiation of our project. Effective application of this methodology may be utilized by both communities and institutions in future planning efforts.

    YSP Launching for Asia, Pacific and Greater China Regions in Bangkok, Thailand Robert Kittel June 13, 2017 The Government of the Kingdom of Thailand gave its full support for the launching of the Youth and Students for Peace (YSP) by: sending two Cabinet Ministers, including the senior-most Deputy Prime Minister who came on behalf of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha; mobilizing 6,000 students from 200 schools, and officially co-hosting the 2-day program. YSP is a global network of young people dedicated to building a world of lasting peace and mutual prosperity by living for others, creating families of true love, and contributing to society. It builds on the values of filial piety, supports inter-generational families and cultivates a sense of social responsibility. The first event, on June 12, was at the United Nations Conference Centre, ESCAP1 Hall in Bangkok which seats nearly 1,200 people. However, throughout the day approximately 800 international guests coming from 35 nations attended, along with more than 900 guests from Thailand making for a total of 1745 participants. The theme was, “The Role of Youth and Students in Creating a Culture of Sustainable Peace.” The following day, on June 13, over 12,000 participants, mostly students, joined in a Youth for Peace Rally held at the IMPACT Arena with the theme, “Pure Love: Solving Social Problems, Building Healthy Societies.” Participants made a public pledge of loyalty, filial piety, purity and service to others. Attention has turned, therefore, to the legacy of outgoing President Rafael Correa’s decade in power. To that end, this paper examines one of Correa’s signature programmes, ‘Buen Vivir’ (Living Well), a strategic plan for development underscored by the indigenous Kichwa cosmology of ‘sumak kawsay’. Sumak kawsay is a notion that has been co-opted into policy mechanisms in an attempt to both challenge neoliberal modes of governance, and to disrupt the ontological bifurcation of nature and society.

There was a presentation by Country Representative Dr Chandra P Gurung, an introduction to climate change by Sandeep Chamling Rai, a talk on the importance of conserving plants for traditional medicines by Punam Lama, winner of an Abraham Conservation Award 2004, and a brief awareness-raising session on conservation and fashion led by former Miss Nepal Malvika Subba. This year, WWF NP is proud to announce that Miss Nepal- World 2004 will be a Conservation Ambassador. WWF NP will sponsor her trip to either Manang or Sagarmatha National Park to witness the adverse effects of climate change. Her other duties will include visiting various Eco Clubs around the country, attending WWF NP/ GHANA SHYAM GURUNG WWF NP functions, and sharing the message of conservation with a Dr Gurung shares coffee and conservation tips with wide national and international audience.
