Rome, the Eternal City, home to the oldest page 4 Jewish Community in the Diaspora, graciously welcomed over two thousand visiting Jewish athletes and their supporters representing 35 countries in Europe, as well as delegations from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Mexico and the USA. 2007/2008 We will never forget the thrill of marching into the stadium and the extraordinary fireworks at the Opening Ceremony, the MACCABI excitement of the competitions and the friendships that were made. It was also special to be part of the 777 party – the EVENTS largest Jewish gathering in Rome’s history held on July 7th. There was ample free time for the 85 members of Team USA and page 4 over 90 supporters to enjoy the artistic beauty and historic richness of Roman culture, tour the and learn about the 2,000- year-old Jewish Community, visit Rome’s main tourist sites and savor the infinite variations of Italian and tra- ditional Jewish-Roman cuisine. MACCABI USA I am so thrilled with our turnout, to date, for the USA Team scheduled to ENDOWMENTS/ compete in Buenos Aires as part of the 11th Pan American Maccabi SPONSORS Games. Fred Cohen, who is filling dual roles as both the Vice Chairman back cover and Sports Chairman for the Games, has been hard at work building a USA Team that will exceed 600 people participating in 20 sports. Additionally, Noralyn Carroll, who is our Missions Chair, has been diligently working with Phyllis Magerman our associates in Buenos Aires and with Gil Travel to ensure that all General Chair who participate as members of the Pan Am Mission have a fantastic experience. It is because of the tremendous efforts of Fred, Noralyn and the countless other volunteers, that we are sure to have one of our most successful Pan American Maccabi experiences ever, for both Team members and Mission participants. There is still availability to participate as a member of the Team in select sports, and limited availability to participate in the Mission. To do either, please visit our website at www.maccabiusa.com. On behalf of the Team USA Pan American Executive Committee, I wish you a happy and healthy New Year and look forward to seeing you in Buenos Aires in 5768! It is reflected in our many volunteers devoting hundreds of hours, our coaches working together to ensure our success and in our many kind and generous donors.
