JULY 2016 OUR HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH

• A new novel from the ever-popular Santa Montefiore, Daughters of Castle Deverill. Set in the west of Ireland in 1925, the war may be long over, but the financial markets are starting to shake. Can Castle Deverill be restored to its former glory? £14.99 – due 14th July. • A major new biography of Britain’s most famous landscape painter from Fanny Moyle, who has previously written about Constance: The Tragic and Scandalous Life of Mrs Oscar Wilde and Desperate Romantics: The Private Lives of the Pre-Raphaelites. In The Extraordinary Life and Momentous Times of JMW Turner, the author reveals the private and public Turner, set against the backdrop of the finest homes in Britain, the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. £25 – due 7th July. • Evelyn Waugh: A Life Revisited. Fifty years on from his death, acclaimed biographer Philip Eade takes a fresh look at this famously complex character and tells the full story of his dramatic, colourful and frequently bizarre life. £30.00 – due 7th July. • Sir Malcolm Rifkind looks back on his long political career in his memoirs, Politics and Pragmatism. £20 – due 7th July. • What did it feel like to be a woman living in Paris from 1939 to 1949? Anne Sebba, who is probably best known for That Woman: The Life of Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor, assembles a fascinating cast of American women and Nazi wives, spies, mothers, mistresses and designers in Les Parisiennes: How the Women of Paris Lived, Loved and Died in the 1940s. £20 – due 14th July. • Jamie Oliver steals a march on his rivals by unveiling his new cookery book this month. A fantastic summer of fun for youngsters and families

There’s a summer of fun activities for children, young people and families to enjoy during August, in Bourton-on-the-Water, Northleach and Stow-on- the-Wold this August. Local community and arts organisation World Jungle received support from Gloucestershire County Council’s Children’s Activity Fund to run Summer Holiday Activity Programmes for children and families to enjoy. Each of the ‘week-long’ programmes will include indoor and outdoor activities using community venues and local green spaces, with a big Family Fun Day event on Friday 26th August. Ben Ward from World Jungle said: “ The activities run throughout every week and include things from circus skills to sports and games, drama workshops, cookery workshops, arts & crafts, African drumming and more. The aim is to inspire kids to get active, learn about healthy behaviours, try some new things… and of course, have lots of fun over the summer holidays.” County Councillor Paul Hodgkinson said: “The Summer Activity Programme was really popular last summer. It offers a range of affordable activities with many free events for families - just turn up at and participate. We hope families and children will use our parks and green spaces, getting involved and enjoying a range of activities.” Details of the programmes, workshops and events are on the World Jungle website with a link from the ‘What’s On’ page: www.worldjungle.org.uk For more information call Ben Ward from World Jungle on 07889 512644, email [email protected] or visit www.worldjungle.org.uk
