Amphibians and Reptiles of Honduras 1 Museo de Zoología UCR INTRODUCTION McCranie and Castañeda (2007a) and McCranie (2006a) recently reviewed the amphibians of Honduras. Subsequently, numerous nomenclatural changes have been proposed and a few species have been added to the Honduran fauna. The non-avian reptiles of Honduras have not been treated in detail, but such a work is being prepared (McCranie, in prep.). As such, the most recent listing of the reptilian species of the country is that of Wilson and McCranie (2002). The purpose of this list is to update and provide a list of the amphibians and reptiles of Honduras as currently understood. The comments and cross-references included herein are only those pertaining to references published after McCranie and Castañeda (2007a), McCranie (2006a), and Wilson and McCranie (2002). The amphibians are listed in the same sequence by Order and within families as in McCranie and Castañeda (2007a). The reptiles are listed alphabetically by Order and then families within each Order. This listing does not include the taxonomic changes being proposed in McCranie (in prep.). The numbers in parenthesis following each Order or Suborder are the number of families, genera, and species, respectively, known to occur in Honduras. The numbers in parenthesis following each Family and Subfamily are the number of genera and species, respectively, known to occur in Honduras. The number in parenthesis following each genus is the number of species known to occur in Honduras. An asterisk denotes an introduced and established species. That specimen is now thought to represent a juvenile B. mexicana (T. Papenfuss, pers. comm.). (2008) demonstrated that the O. cyclocauda of McCranie and Castañeda (2007a) and McCranie (2006a) actually consisted of three undescribed species. Chaunus marinus (Linnaeus, 1758) Incilius Cope, 1863 (5) Amphibians and Reptiles of Honduras 3 Museo de Zoología UCR The following five species were included in Ollotis Cope, 1875 by McCranie and Castañeda (2007a) and McCranie (2006a). Also, I do not recognize I. ibarrai (Stuart, 1954) or I. porteri (Mendelson, Williams, Sheil, & Mulcahy, 2005) as valid species occurring in Honduras for the reasons discussed by McCranie and Castañeda (2007a). Despite the recent review of the I. coccifer complex by Mendelson et al. (2005), a thorough review of this complex is needed that includes all known populations, especially those of the large specimens occurring in the lowlands of southern Honduras. Incilius campbelli (Mendelson, 1994) Incilius coccifer (Cope, 1866) Incilius leucomyos (McCranie & Wilson, 2000) Incilius luetkenii (Boulenger, 1891) Incilius valliceps (Wiegmann, 1833) Rhaebo Cope, 1862 (1) Rhaebo haematiticus (Cope, 1862) FAMILY CENTROLENIDAE Taylor, 1951 (5, 8) The classification of this Family follows Guayasamin et al. (2009). SUBFAMILY CENTROLENINAE Taylor, 1951 (4, 5) Cochranella Taylor, 1951 (1) Cochranella granulosa (Taylor, 1949) Espadarana Guayasamin, Castroviejo–Fisher, Trueb, Ayarzagüena, Rada, & Vilà, 2009 (1) The following species was included in Centrolene Jiménez de la Espada, 1872 by McCranie and Castañeda (2007a) and McCranie (2006a). Espadarana prosoblepon (Boettger, 1892) Sachatamia Guayasamin, Castroviejo–Fisher, Trueb, Ayarzagüena, Rada, & Vilà, 2009 (1) The following species was included in Cochranella by McCranie and Castañeda (2007a) and McCranie (2006a). Sachatamia albomaculata (Taylor, 1949) Teratohyla Taylor, 1951 (2) The following two species were included in Hyalinobatrachium and Cochranella, respectively, by McCranie and Castañeda (2007a) and McCranie (2006a). Teratohyla pulverata (Peters, 1873) Teratohyla spinosa (Taylor, 1949) SUBFAMILY HYALINOBATRACHINAE Guayasamin, Castroviejo–Fisher, Trueb, Ayarzagüena, Rada, & Vilà, 2009 (1, 3) Hyalinobatrachium Ruiz-Carranza & Lynch, 1991 (3) The following two species were placed in the synonymy of H. chirripoi (Taylor, 1958) and H. colymbiphyllum (Taylor, 1949), respectively, by Cisneros-Heredia and McDiarmid (2007). However, the phylogeny based on nuclear genes recovered by Guayasamin et al. (2008, 2009) showed H. cardiacalyptum and H. chirripoi to be paraphyletic with respect to H. colymbiphyllum. Thus, I continue to recognize H. cardiacalyptum as a valid species. I also doubt the validity of placing H. crybetes in the synonymy of H. colymbiphyllum and continue to recognize the former as a distinct species pending rediscovery of the species and study of its molecular data and advertisement call. Hyalinobatrachium cardiacalyptum McCranie & Wilson, 1997 Hyalinobatrachium crybetes McCranie & Wilson, 1997 Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni (Boettger, 1893) 4 McCranie 2009 Listas Zoológicas Actualizadas UCR FAMILY HYLIDAE Rafinesque, 1815 (16, 34) SUBFAMILY HYLINAE Rafinesque, 1815 (14, 30) Anotheca H.
