THE GAY\RIGHTS REF RENDUM BETWEEN HOaSTON CITY C0UNCILPERSONS

JOHN ELEANOR GOODNER TINSLEY ON THE LEFT ON THE RIGHT

On January 19, 1985, voters in Houston will decide if the words "sexual orientation" should be added to the list of non-discrimination classes in Houston's civil rights hiring code. On that date, voters will decide if it's all right to discriminate in city employment on the basis of sexual orientation. As the election approaches, the controversy heats up as supporters of both sides cam- paign. On Wednesday night, November 14, on Houston's Warner Amex Cable Channel 3 (local access),councilmembers John Goodner and Eleanor Tinsley debated the issue. Goodner (from the left) opposes the issue; Tinsley (from the right) favors the issue. Published are HIGHLIGHTSof that debate as monitored by TWTNEWS/Houston.
