THIEM, TOMIC TO PLAY FOR BIGGEST TITLE OF YOUNG CAREERS

 FINALS PREVIEW: No. 4 seed and No. 5 seed Bernard Tomic will play in the first ATP World Tour 500 final of their respective careers when they clash for the Abierto Mexicano Telcel title on Saturday. Thiem, 22, saved match points in a pair of matches at Buenos Aires en route to his fourth title on February 14 (all on clay). Tomic, 23, seeks his fourth championship after winning Sydney in 2013 and back-to-back Bogotá titles in 2014 and 2015 (all on hard).

Thiem and Tomic have never met before. They are the youngest players in the Top 32 of the Emirates ATP Rankings and contesting the youngest Acapulco final since 18-year-old beat 24-year-old Albert Montãnes for the 2005 title. The 15th-ranked Thiem is attempting to become the fourth player to capture multiple titles in 2016 (Djokovic, Wawrinka, Bautista Agut). Tomic, the World No. 21, is trying to beat a seeded player for the first time at this week’s event.

In the doubles final, No. 3 seeds and take on No. 4 seeds and . Petzschner and Peya are playing in their fourth ATP World Tour final as a team. The German and Austrian are still seeking their first championship, finishing as runners- up at Doha and Rotterdam earlier this season and at in 2008. Likewise, Huey and Mirnyi are contending for their first team title. Mirnyi, a former World No. 1 and six-time men’s doubles champion, has not won a tour-level doubles title since 2013 Beijing with Horia Tecau.
