The Star is a 15th century Inn which has now been refurbished into a modern, stylish and elegant eatery and The Swan and Maypole public houses, offer an abundance of real ales and local joviality. Just a short walk from The Whittles is Ocean Delight, a good old fashioned fish and chips shop and if you continue further into town you could experience the delectable Indian cuisine of India Villa.

Thaxted also has an abundance of outside spaces; the recreation ground features a playing field, a basketball and netball court and a children’s playing area. Margaret Street Garden is a small communal area with a bench and a small space for picnics which occasionally hosts Morris Dancing and craft fairs. Walnut Tree Meadow is a large open space where you can take a stroll, walk your dog, or enjoy a family picnic.

Thaxted is also host to its annual Festival. It attracts the very best of British and international musicians, in genres ranging from orchestral, chamber and vocal music to jazz, folk, big-band and popular standards, from early music to contemporary compositions. Audiences and performers alike enjoy the superb acoustics and uplifting architecture of Thaxted’s spacious Parish Church and appreciate the relaxed, informal atmosphere of the events.
