It's one thing having a yarn with a customer at the smoking sheds where I've been turning out kippers for more years than I care to remember, or telling a story at a wedding or a ceilidh, but it's a gey bit different looking at a blank sheet of paper and wondering what you can say that hasn't been said before. -

A great deal tlierefore still remains to be done even in this register and the remaining records in the Court House at Inveraray. But the present Volume indicates what these and similar registers contain, and it may be said that no Argyleshire family of Campbell is unrepresented, and that not a few hitherto unknown and unattached members of the Clan are for the first time brought to notice here. It only remains to acknowledge that thanks are due to Baron Ltittwitz, who claims descent from Colin Campbell, Bailie of Tiree, and who shared the cost of the examination of this register, and to Mr. B. M. Wright, Sheriff Clerk Depute at Inveraray, for his courtesy and kindness to the Editor and his son during their several visits thither for the purpose of making these Abstracts.
