While the country naturally flourishes with lakes, forests, and mountains, Switzerland has made some major efforts towards pre- serving water quality, wastewater management, as well as utilizing wind energy. Currently, there are approxi- mately 900 wastewater treatment plants across Switzer- land. The Swiss are also a leader in waste management with a recycling rate of 53%. FRANCE The French are adored for two things most out of all – their food and their fashion, and that is exactly where they introduce sustainability the most. Named one of the most sustainable food countries in the world, France fights food waste by requiring supermarkets to send leftover food towards charities instead of throw- ing them away. The country also banned retailers from throwing out unsold clothes and instead to donating to organizations. Use of sustainable energy and water conservation are other aspects of eco-friendly France tourism.

IRELAND With an EPI of 78.77, Ireland ensures being eco-friend- ly by promoting measures for fresh air and water and conserving its natural foliage of mountains and forests. High quality of life, low rate of crimes and an overall safer place makes Ireland a must-visit on your sustain- able destination list.

In fact, two of the most popular Brit- ish cities – London and Edinburgh have been listed amongst the top sustainable cities in the world. They have shifted towards using more renewable resources such as solar energy, as well as onshore and offshore wind energy means. 21 Beauty 2021 and the Glam This summer promises a much-needed re- turn to bold, fun makeup after what seems like an eternity of lockdown skin- care and limited zoom-meeting makeup. By Gitanshi Dua

othing beats warmer weather for making you want to look your best. Pastel eyes and bold brows, along with statement lips, are set to be some of the most common makeup trends Nthis summer. Whether you stick with light make-up or get back to glam, check out these top summer 2021 Make-up trends below.

Glossy Lips

Attention! Attention! Glossy lips are making a comeback, and we could not be happier about it. Glossy lips are the perfect way to make the lips appear wider while still getting extra hydration during the hot summer days. It is a simple trend that elevates any outfit and brightens your complexion as well as your mood. Also you can choose a shiny, purple-tinted gloss and pair it with flut- tery lashes and lots of highlighter for a winning look.

Rosy cheeks Dewy Glow A little flush on your cheeks will always restore your Summer 2021 beauty trends demonstrated that dewy, youthful glow. A wash of blush always adds an air of glowing skin is here to stay, so ditch the mattifying prim- innocence to a look, and it is a great way to feel extra er and stock up on moisturiser. The dewy look is all fresh while still being colourful. It is perfect for spring about looking fresh-faced and glowing. Use a light foun- beauty trends because it is quick and easy to apply and dation for good, even coverage during the summer. If has a subtle but noticeable impact. Bold eye makeup is popular, but purple is a runaway hit. Purple shades look great on everyone, from lavender to violet. Purple can be both vibrant and subtle, depending on the shade and finish of the products you use. Eye gloss is great for staying at home, but it can become sticky in the heat. However, shimmery eyeshadow is a good consolation. Do not be afraid to wear colours that you would normally avoid in the summer. Pleasant eye makeup is expected to become more common in the future. Use metallic

Routines with a lot of glitz and glam will be popular this summer. Makeup with a beautiful metallic finish is a simple and easy way to add drama to your look — it is like your beauty jewellery. If you want to be bold, you can use metallic products on your skin, lips, cheeks, and even brows.

Pastel and bright rainbows nail art

Pastel light rainbow nails are the playful trend I have seen on social media and celebrities, and I believe this will be a huge hit for spring/summer. It is rainbow mani- cure season, so use a different shade of colour from the same palette on each nail, particularly popping pinks. It is a quick and easy way to freshen up a basic manicure for spring. Bubble-gum pink, all shades of blue ranging from royal to baby blue, as well as strong greens and emeralds, are expected to be extremely common. Graphic lines

You have undoubtedly seen graphic eyeliner looks all over Instagram, as people got creative with their eye makeup in reaction to face masks covering the lower half of our faces for the majority of 2020. Sharp lines are still popular this year, whether it is a classic cat eye or a 60s- inspired negative space liner. Choose a fine-tipped creamy gel liner. You will be able to draw clear lines with ease, without any tugging. Your Guide To

Coloured mascara

This summer, ditch the traditional black and brown mas- cara formulas in favour of a fun, bright colour. Nothing makes your eyes stand out more than a coat of blue or pastel on your lashes. This is a simple way to add colour to your look without using eye shadow or liner.

It is time to switch up your beauty routine, whether for Zoom calls or just to look nice around the house. Wheth- er you consider yourself a beauty expert or a makeup novice, there is a beauty trend for everyone. Whatever makeup routine you follow, the spring makeup trends will include something that will align with your ap- proach to beauty during pandemic times! Beauty

1. DARK CIRCLES

CAUSES : Causes of dark circles are various including excessive pigmentation or hyperpigmentation, thin and lucid eyelid skin, shadowing secondary to skin laxity, and age-related changes leading to hollowing and tear- trough deformity.

HYPERPIGMENTATION under or around the eye area may be caused by under-lying congenital causes, such as nevus of Ota, sun exposure, medicines , or medical conditions including atopic or contact dermatitis that leads to rubbing of the periorbital region hence causing post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Blood leak from the tiny capillaries from excessive rubbing, scratching or following trauma may cause pigmentary changes in the lower eye-lids. SHADOWING due to ageing of the skin with age-related changes in the soft tissue and skeleton that leads to skin laxity in combination, is an- other common cause of dark circles. The appearance of an under eye depression or hollowness secondary to loss of under eye fat pad and thinning of the skin over the orbital rim ligament leads to a shadow which again gives darker reflection. To conclude the cause of dark circles, gently stretch the skin under eyes and if it gets darker, then the circles are probably due to thin skin and diminished collagen. If the color does not change, then UV rays causing hyperpigmentation is the prob- lem. Blood that accumulates under the eyes, often due to poor circulation or lack of sleep, can be more obvious in thin-skinned or/and fair people.

Consult a Professional: Make an appointment with the Fitness Advisor in the gym. It could be the Manager, Head Trainer or Fitness Manager. They will guide you and make a program for you keeping in mind your fitness level and your goals.

You will need to do a fitness assessment before you start – The trainer will take your body measurements and a few simple tests to analyse your physical abili- ties. Do not worry if you can not do too much at this stage. Everyone starts this way. Ask for a few sessions with a trainer so you can follow his/her guidance to un- derstand the routines. Ask the personal trainer every- thing you want to know about the gym. How to use the equipment, how to train properly, the correct form to lift weight or even about nutrition. It is to avoid serious injury in the long run. Workout Gear: Dress so you are comfortable and able to move easily. Avoid an overabundance of ma- terial since you will be sweating. Wear tracks, t-shirts, with good supporters, good quality shoes that fit well and socks. Carry a hand towel and a sipper bottle with water. Do not forget to pack your soap or shampoo if you plan to take a shower there after the exercise. Some gyms provide basic toiletries free of charge. Keep sip- ping water before and through your workouts.

Do a Good Warm Up: Always do a good warm up before starting your workouts. Your body is not ac- customed to workouts so you will get soreness in your body because of lactic acid build up. Muscles need time to adjust to the new demand’s aerobic activity places on them. You could end up pulling your muscles if they are not properly warmed up. Begin your work out with a 10-minute warm up session like jogging on the spot, skipping or jumping jacks.

Start Slowly: If you push yourself too hard at first, you may be forced to abandon your program because of pain or injury. It is better to start slowly and progress gradually. Do not step on the scale too often as it is not going to show you immediate results.

You can do your cardio workouts on the same day before you get into your strength training routine if you are pressed for time.

How are you doing these days? Are you back to work and living in the new normal?

I had just started getting back to work when COVID cases started rising again. I have been taking all precau- tions even when I am shooting. I hope we are all able to go about our lives like before but that is going to take a while. Until then, we should all be careful and not step out without wearing a mask.

We are curious - starting out as a model, how did acting come in the picture? Were you always passionate about getting into Bolly- wood?

Acting just happened, I had not planned it. After my films Faltu and Go Goa Gone, I took some time off and realized that it is important to understand the craft. I enrolled myself in acting classes and finished my grad- uation at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, New York. The transition from acting to modeling was not easy because I did not know anyone in Mumbai and I did not know how it works. I had neither seen big sets nor acted. But I managed it well and made the best decision of my life by saving the money from my first two movies and enrolling myself in the acting school I wanted to go to. As an actor, what kind of roles do you envision yourself playing in the future?

I do not have anything specific in mind; I would love to explore different characters as an actor. But if I had to choose one, I would love to play a role like Uma Thur- man in the Kill Bill movie series.

One glimpse of your social media and one can tell you are a fitness enthusiast and that you are always sharing fitness tips with your fans. What is your personal fitness and wellness phi- losophy in life?

My fitness and wellness philosophy is consistency. I workout everyday and have been practicing flow yoga for over a decade. I believe that practice makes a per- son perfect and it takes both practice and determination for the best outcome for your body. My guru Dattatray Kudekar has been a real inspiration for my fitness jour- ney and I am still learning and developing myself.

Talking about wellness, you are quite active on social media and having such a huge platform can be intimidating or stressful at times. How do you deal with the negative aspects of social media?

I try to see the bright side of everything, so I see the good comments and try to avoid the negative ones. I am a public figure and people are always going to have opinions, so it is best not to take anything too seriously.

What is your recurring advice for those trying to venture into Bollywood?

My advice would be to keep honing your skills and continue working hard irrespective of the obstacles. The journey is difficult but it is worth it.

Lastly, what is next for Puja Gupta? Any new projects we should keep an eye out for?

I am reading a few scripts for shows and planning on doing live theatre once the COVID situation is a bit in control. Theatre is my real passion and I am excited to pursue it in future. As and when things materialise, I will talk about it. Cover Story

30 GlobalSpa | February-March 2020 How has your journey been so far? I started off when I was 16, and now I am going to be 28. It has been a while since I started working and the journey has been a very good learning experience for me because if you see five years down the line, what I was earlier to what I am now is a huge difference and it is because of all that I have learned during these five years. It has been really good being part of the industry. Is there something that you wish you had done differently in these last years or so?

I do not think that I would have done anything differ- ently in a way to correct it. I would have still done it the same way in a similar manner because I think whatever I have done has only made me learn from it. I believe you learn only from what you do and what you have gone through from your experiences, and that is how you try to better yourself, talk yourself out of it, or get solutions to it. So whatever I am today is probably because of whatever has happened or I have done in the past.

Did you always dream of being on the screen or was there something else that you wanted to do growing up? No, I think as a Taurean I am very focused and I know what I want to do. I remember I was in lower kinder- garten when I decided what I wanted to be. I knew that I wanted to get into modeling and maybe the acting industry as well. It is not that just because I wanted to be a model I wanted to get in the entire industry, but I knew I wanted to do my modelling, walk ramps, be a part of ad campaigns, and then eventually become part of the acting industry as well which I pretty much did, and I am very happy about it as that is something that I have always wanted to do. If it was not for acting, I think I would have kept developing my interests since I like learning. So there are a lot of things that I would keep doing and if I have to choose something else, I do have a lot to choose from.

What was your motivation or influence that you decided to walk this path so early? I believe you learn only from what I do not know what influenced me. When I was a kid, I used to enact scenes. I distinctly remember enacting you do and what you have gone scenes from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and I would love to through from your experiences, look at myself in the mirror and act, and have a con- versation with myself. I do not know what inspired me and that is how you try to better really, but I think it was just in my blood. yourself, talk yourself out of it, or get solutions to it You are quite active on social media which gives a glimpse of a lot of travel content and beauty reviews. So would you call yourself an influencer or an actor?

I am a mix of everything. I do not want to be cat- egorised as one - as an actor, a model or an influ- encer. I am an influencer in a way because obvi- ously if I am reviewing stuff I am influencing people, and even when I travel I am giving my honest opinions on the places, the food, and the ambience. And if we are on the same wavelength and our likings match, they will be able to know what is better for them and where to go next or what to buy, so yes, I do consider myself an influencer.

You have a YouTube channel for yourself, you have acted in music videos, and you have been on the television screen as well. Now, what is it that you would prefer doing? Do you still prefer the mix of all of it if given an option? I will prefer a mix of all. I can not settle for just one because I am not a person who will just do one thing. I will always have that as my main thing but I need to have other things that I can do simultaneously.

Talking about your YouTube journey, give us a couple of tips and tricks that you would want to share with us as a traveller. When it comes to traveling, I think the foremost thing is travelling light because when I go, I al- ways carry my things I have for that trip in a cabin bag. That is how light I travel, because I know when I am coming back, I will be getting a lot of other things with it. I also really like getting local stuff. Whether it is the food or the products, local is what I buy. I do not buy anything that is brand- ed because you can get brands everywhere. So that is why I travel light so that I can get all of those experiences back home and share it with my people here. And I also think people should try doing that instead of going on a shopping spree for other things.

When it comes to travelling for collaborations, I know I need to take good pictures of places and post them, but if I am on a vacation, you would not see too many pictures of me on social media because I am in that moment enjoying that mo- ment, and that is what people miss out on. They are more trying to capture everything and they miss out living in that moment. So you can have Photographer: Chandrakant Shah some time to capture things, but the main thing Makeup: Kunj Shah is to live in that moment. 32 GlobalSpa | February-March 2020

Your fitness mantra Practicing a healthy life

Must haves in your makeup kit Lipstick One cuisine you love to binge on Thai Your guilty pleasure Eating Cheetos Gut Health Intuitive Eating: A Dietless Approach to Healthy Eating

Have you struggled with going on diets, losing weight, or eating healthy? Intuitive eating could be right up your alley.

By Dr. Archana Batra ntuitive Eating is a non-diet eating approach that promotes a healthy attitude towards food and body image. It is a way of eating without judgement, just curiosity. Through the process of intuitive eating, Ithe goal is to understand the difference between physi- cal hunger, the biological urge that tells us we need our punishment of nutrients, and emotional hunger which is driven by cravings and emotional needs.

HOW TO INTUITIVELY EAT Due to diet culture polluting our brains, it has gotten easier to lose our natural intuition of eating when we are hungry and when we feel full. We overindulge in foods that we do not even like and we only allow our- selves certain foods when we think we deserve them.

Practicing intuitive eating can be daunting at first, but your food rules and diet restrictions need to be looked into step-by-step before you can successfully practice intuitive eating. It requires time, reflection, support and forgiveness. However, at the end, food will be catego- rized as just food and not the enemy!

Recognize Diet Culture - We are exposed to it 24/7. We are surrounded with advertisements, social media posts and products to help us minimize this or that. Look for it and call it out. By recognizing it, you are more likely to be able to stand up to it rather than have it take control over you.

Get to know your body - Check in with yourself every two hours throughout the day and ask if you feel pleasant, unpleasant or neutral. It will help drive your food choices thereafter. Make room to care for your body and spend time with people you love without car- ing about your food or exercise. Eat when you want - Understand your hunger by responding to hunger cues and not letting yourself become excessively hungry. Try to eat every 3-4 hours. Have 3 regular meals with 1-3 snacks per day and no- tice your hunger with a schedule. Check in with your- self. How does this work for you or do you like the way it makes you feel? Eat with awareness until you are comfortably full.

IS INTUITIVE EATING WORK FOR WEIGHT LOSS? Remember, intuitive eating is not about losing weight. In fact, if you focus on weight loss, it can easily put a damper on the whole approach. Intuitive eating is about making peace with food. Once you give your- self permission to eat any food you like, whenever you want, you can truly feel your body’s natural feelings of hunger, fullness, desire and satisfaction. It takes com- mitment and support and recommends working with a professional like a registered dietician who can help you ditch the dieting mentality and learn to eat healthy.

As it is well said, Rome was not built in a day. You will have to give some time to get comfortable with this. There is no right or wrong in intuitive eating which is the beauty of it.

So, check it with your body and most important, trust your body. It trusts you! Recipes Summer Yum! With summer comforting ingredients and delicious recipes, here are a few recipes to try at home this season.

The Brain Food called Blueberries

Blueberries are healthy, sweet, a little tart and make a great snack. But these little pur- ple berries are a legitimate super food with a great deal of nutritional scientific research backing them up.

By Dr. Tal Friedman ND e have probably all heard that berries of all types are good antioxidants. This is very true. Blueberries in particular are particu- larly rich in a variety of antioxidant com- Wpounds called anthocyanins (which give the berries their characteristic deep purple colour) and flavonoids. These powerful compounds are what give blueberries their unique health benefits. The most exciting research sur- rounding blueberries are the multiple potential benefits they have for brain and cognitive health. Blueberries are good for our brains in a number of different ways.

It is no surprise that memory starts to deteriorate as we age, but it is looking like blueberries may help support our memory. When wild blueberry juice was supple- mented for twelve weeks to older adults, it improved their memory function significantly. In another study, participants with mild cognitive impairment aged 68 and older supplemented their diets with freeze-dried blueberry powder or a placebo powder. At the end of the sixteen week study researchers concluded that the blue- berry group had improved memory, improved access to words and concepts along with better cognitive perfor- mance and overall brain function.

One of the more unique ways that blueberries have been shown to improve brain health is by increasing some- thing called BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor). BDNF helps to ensure the survival of existing brain cells and tissues, as well as to promote the growth and pro- liferation of new neurons. Studies have shown that add- ing blueberries to your diet can increase the birth rate of brain cells in the hippocampus - the brain region respon- sible for memory. In fact, studies on both older and younger rats have shown an increase in BDNF in other- wise healthy rats.

Including some extra blueberries into your diet can also make you happier. In one recent study people were asked to supplement their diet with wild blueberry juice for twelve weeks. At the end of the study the participants showed significantly lessened depressive symptoms overall. Another study from 2016 found that eating blue- berries can help reduce the genetic and biochemical driv- ers behind depression and post-traumatic stress disor- der. There is also broader research showing that the anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effects of antioxidant rich foods are mediated through several pathways that work together in harmony.

When it comes to eating blueberries, fresh is great but Choosing a diet high in a variety of fruits and vegetables frozen can be just as good. For a design to be ‘well’, each of these elements should communicate to each other in an interconnected sort of way.

The Wellness Real Estate Audience A recent survey indicates a strong interest among younger demographics with about 40% of millennials and 35% of Gen X being keen about in-home health or personal spac- es with wellness features. This rising demand has led to steady growth in the wellness real estate market, which has been developing at more than 9% on a yearly basis. Alongside the demand is also coming from luxury, mid- dle and upper-middle-class consumers, who are looking for homes that brace a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Vertical Gardens: Known to enhance the building’s aes- thetics, these living walls are restorative tools in the well- ness real estate segment. Having these artificial green walls accentuating the facades of the structures can en- liven a project’s common area while facilitating occupants with a soothing mind. This green foliage can considerably reduce mental fatigue, increase one’s ability to re-focus, offer mental restoration, and improve cognitive performance.

Water bodies: Since times immemorial, water has been known for its healing properties. Having water bodies around the living space is considered vital for synchroniz- ing the body and restoring physical harmony. Setting up a water body in the project’s vicinity can calm the mind and body thus reducing stress. Elements like cascading fountain waterfalls, lakes, or artificial ponds placed at the entrance, patio, or courtyards can benefit in making in- habitants physically and emotionally healthy. Eco-friendly Landscapes: Making use of sustainable materials like tyres, straws, baskets, and composts for landscapes like healing gardens and flower beds, both indoors and outdoors can improve resident’s moods and lessen stress. Flowers and ornamental plants lend a posi- tive aura of well-being facilitating residents to take charge of their health.

Organic Farming: Further highlighting its potential to transform public health, wellness real estate has been of- fering projects with facilities like organic farming helping buyers with their dietary requirements. Having such self- sustaining islands within the projects can act as a resort to provide buyers with a restored living experience.

The pandemic has fast-tracked the growth of real estate wellness which was already underway as an evolution of green buildings. The primary focus is to ensure that sci- ence and technology can be made to best use, enabling end-users to revel in the overall project aesthetics that lend them a holistic mental and physical well-being. It can rightly be stated that integrating wellness and real estate is all set to foreshadow what is ahead for this bur- geoning industry.
