A world-famous entertainer announced that she and her boyfriend were splitting up in one of the saddest tweets I’ve ever read: “We have decided to go our separate ways. Please respect our privacy.” It was quite a shock. Not that they broke up — that was inevitable. After all, she’s a celebrity and they’d been together almost six months. Do the math. Besides, three months ago she was telling the hosts of the morning and afternoon TV shows that she had finally found her soul mate and they’d be together until the end of time, which is the way famous people say, “It’s not over, but it’s on life support.”The end of time turned out to be last Tuesday. Long neck news

Assignment: Pretend you woke up with the neck of a giraffe. Write a news story about the event.

Cadence R., a student at Hillcrest Elementary, North Bend, will receive a prize for her submission on this topic: What would you do if you woke up one morning, and had a super long neck? I wonder what i would do. We could be the gifaffe twins! Just take a minute and think about it. Maybe I would dress up like a giraffe on Halloween. If I did that I may even look like a real giraffe. Also I would never lose a ball. I could go look on top of the roof to grab it if it went up there. I wouldn’t even need a ladder. But there’s a bad thing about it. You wouldn’t be able to go inside your house. You also wouldn’t fit in a swimming pool. You would never be able to swim. You would take up all the room. Also you would not be able to fit in your car. HILLCREST ELEMENTARY Fourth grade

Once there was a very popular girl named Gertrude. She bragged and nagged and bullied and scurried for attention. One morning she woke up to an odd feeling in her neck and saw everyting from 10 feet taller. “I probably just had a 10 foot growth in the middle of the night”. She thought. But, when she got to school, however, people said. “What happended to your neck”? Gertrude fled to the bathroom looked in the mirror and sobbed. She couldn’t even see the top of her head! Instead of them getting bullied by her, it was the other way around. That night, she promised she would never do bragging and nagging, and all the stuff she did, and the next day her giraffe neck was gone.“Thank good- ness”. She signed. “No more Giraffe Neck Gertrude”! Paige K.

Welcome to Long Neck news. I am your host Astrid Steele. So I wake up this morning and I look like a giraffe. I mean look at me. I am a gifaffe wearing a dress! so I have to slough in the breakroom so I don’t hit the ceiling. My boss said he might just put me in the Zoo because I am so wild. Get it “Ha Ha Ha Ha”.For breakfast I ate my plant I had in my living room. Then my dog walks in a barks a me. So I get and he bites my tail. I am saying “Get off Get off” Then my boyfriend says “Oh my Gosh, there’s a giraffe in the living room. The End Sage J.

When I woke up I found out that I had the neck of a giraffe I didn’t know what to do, and nobody could see me like this so I went into the woods, when i got to the woods I for- got to get some food at home, but I couldn’t go back, and I couldn’t eat leaves, so all I did was tell one of my friends He was so surprised. I told her if she could go get some food for me, she could come back with all of my favorite foods That night I slept in the woods. My friend brought a sleeping bag, so she could sleep with me in the morning, my neck was back to normal. It was out rageous. We didn’t know what to do, but when we got back home my mom was, so worried, She wondered where I was. I told her, “camping with my friend”. Natalie C.

One day I woke up, I felt a little weird, so I looked in the mirror, and I had a giraffe size neck! Then I went to take a shower, and it grew longer! So I got dressed and looked out the window, and some TV people saw me, and rushed up to my apart- ment. When they knocked on my door I for some reason opened it, and they took pictures of me. But the cool thing was I was on TV! The people asked questions, and so I said “I woke up like this”. So then I got really sick, and so the weird thing was is that when they left I woke up, and realized that it was all just a dream and that I never had a giraffe neck! Katie C.

Statistically, U.S. taxpay- ers have a very low chance of FRANK AND ERNEST being audited by the IRS. According to MSN personal finance columnist Liz Weston, only about 1 percent of all tax filers are audited. I must be the unluckiest person on earth because I’ve been audited twice. Both times EVERYDAY were so CHEAPSKATE stressful, I get sweaty p alms THE BORN LOSER just thinking about it. On both occa- sions, I had to Mary provide Hunt proof for deduc- tions I claimed going back several years. ZITS Here’s my problem: I am terrible with receipts. They get wadded up in the bottom of my purse or left in a box or bag, never to be seen again. And even when I do manage to collect receipts, organizing and filing them can take an entire weekend or longer. I have tried every possible method for receipt retention and filing, even scanning them into my computer. That CLASSIC PEANUTS provided a partial solution, but I’ve learned that just because I’ve scanned some- thing into my computer does not necessarily mean I will THE FAMILY CIRCUS ever be able to find it when I need it. A few months ago, I dis- covered the solution to my receipt retention and filing problem. Shoeboxed.com is an online organizational service that allows me free usage of its online manage- FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE ment system, including unlimited storage in the cloud for all of my digital receipts, business cards and documents. And, I have a searchable archive of every- thing in my account. All I have to do is scan each item and then upload it into my Shoeboxed account, either via my computer or mobile app. I also have the option of ROSE IS ROSE having Shoeboxed do all the work for me, for as little as $9.95 per month, with a 30 day free trial included in all plans. Here’s what I mean by “all of the work.”I keep a big blue Shoeboxed.com enve- lope handy for every receipt, business card, invoice, war- ranty or any other document I need to keep. Then I seal it and mail it off to Shoeboxed. In a few days, every docu- LUANN ment is professionally scanned, categorized and properly filed into my account. Shoeboxed offers several levels of service. When you go to its site, click on FAQs to learn more. As you are weighing your options, take this from me: The amount I spend at Shoeboxed each month to keep organized and audit-ready pales by com- parison to what I have expe- GRIZZWELLS rienced in the past. The amount of time and money I have spent scrambling at the last minute to make sure I have what I need to prove and substantiate the deductions on my tax return or to get service on a warranty or return a purchase for a refund is incalculable. I cannot imagine how many reim- bursements I’ve missed because I didn’t have a receipt to submit. That will never happen again. I highly recommend Shoeboxed if you are like me MODERATELY CONFUSED KIT ’N’ CARLYLE HERMAN and could use a little help getting your financial records organized, filed and easily accessible.
