There are a range of popular outdoor pursuits available including walking, cycling and horse riding. Lot 1 - Old Sandpitts House • Old Sandpitts House is a fabulous seven bedroom family house offering character, comfort and space. It is Grade II* listed with evidence of 13th century origins when it would have been a stone and thatch Hall House. It was extended and predominantly constructed in the 15th century of stone elevations with later 17th and 20th century alterations. The house has a plethora of period features including stone mullion windows, stone floors, intricate joinery and open fireplaces; all have been preserved and restored with great sensitivity by the present owners. • The 40’ indoor swimming pool has a changing room with shower and WC and is linked to the house via an internal corridor. It also has superb views over the gardens and grounds. Gardens and Grounds • The gardens and grounds are a wildlife haven. Much of the landscaping to the gardens and grounds occurred in the 1970s, using the pattern of the many natural springs to create lakes, ponds and streams which have been laid out for duck shooting and stocked for fishing. They are home to an abundance of fish and wildfowl. • Complementing the sweeping lawns are more formal yet manageable gardens to the west and front of the house as well as a productive vegetable and cut flower garden. The orchard has a range of mature fruit trees including apple, pear, mulberry and fig. There are also a greenhouse, poly-tunnel, fruit cages, chicken house and run, walled front garden and ornamental ponds. The old milking parlour has been converted into a gym. The gardens are easily managed and ideally suited for family life. • 12 November for December Issue. [email protected]
WELCOME! It’s great to have The White Lion roaring back into life again, in the hands of our new landlords, Vikki and Spike. We wish them all the very best of luck – and it’s down to us, as a community, to support them. We might not all be drinkers but having a thriving pub in the centre of the village is good for all of us. If you haven’t already done so, please pop in and say hello. I’m pleased to say that the challenge I threw down in the last issue about getting the village pump going again is beginning to bear fruit. Watch this space, as they say. And the Brownies are planning to put a tub of plants next to the pump, so that’ll brighten things up a bit. Again, there’s lots going on in the village and the surrounding area this month. Don’t forget the Fireworks at Bernards’ Place on 4 November. It’s free admission to this event, but the Jubilee Group does appreciate your donations, as fireworks aren’t cheap. Food will be served from 6pm but please don’t leave it too late to get your hot dog or burger, as one visitor did last year and then complained that it was ‘disgusting’ that the food had run out before they got there at 7pm. The fireworks will last for approximately half an hour, so please keep your pets indoors. I always leave Radio Four on for mine. Thanks again to Julie Steele for the cover photo – Julie, the magazine would look very bare without you! Margery Hookings Date for final copy: 12 November for December issue.

  • West Dorset District Council)
NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN EXAMINATION SERVICE EXAMINATION OF THE BROADWINDSOR GROUP PARISHES NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN (WEST DORSET DISTRICT COUNCIL) QUESTIONS FROM THE EXAMINER TO WEST DORSET DISTRICT COUNCIL AND BROADWINDSOR GROUP PARISH COUNCIL EQ1 WDDC question the need for the reference to 0.1ha in Policy BGNP4A. In West Dorset, are Biodiversity Mitigation and Enhancement Plans routinely required on sites over 0.1ha, even if there is no good reason to suppose that there will be an adverse impact on biodiversity? What is the justification for this requirement? RESP Dorset Council response ONS Within the Adopted West Dorset, Weymouth & Portland Local Plan 2015, paragraph 2.2.19 of the E supporting text to Policy ENV2 Wildlife and Habitats states that: “In order to comply with all relevant government legislation on biodiversity and Natural England advice, an appraisal scheme has been set up in Dorset by the DCC natural environment team; if required, a Biodiversity Appraisal accompanied by a Biodiversity Mitigation Plan (BMP) should be submitted alongside the planning application. This standardised process is the councils’ preferential scheme but developers can, if they so wish, demonstrate in other ways how they have met the statutory and policy requirements.” West Dorset, Weymouth & Portland, Planning Application Requirements (February 2016) clarifies further: “A Biodiversity Appraisal accompanied by a standardised Biodiversity Mitigation Plan (BMP) is required for all greenfield or brownfield development sites over 0.1ha in size, where not currently used as existing residential or business premises. A BMP covers habitat as well as protected species matters.” Whilst we support policy BGNP4A in principle we would question the need for a Biodiversity Mitigation and Enhancement Plan for sites larger than 0.1 ha to be mentioned within the policy as it already forms part of the Councils validation checklist and on this basis would replicate a well known process.

Drimpton Road Broadwindsor Church of England Broadwindsor Beaminster Voluntary Controlled Primary School Dorset DT8 3QL “Learning and growing together” Tel/Fax: 01308 868376 Email: [email protected] 8.10.20 Headteacher: Mr Philip Smith School website: www.broadwindsor.dorset.sch.uk Dear Andrew, The school very much appreciates the support Broadwindsor Cricket Club has given us over a long period of time to benefit the children’s sporting opportunities. I was very much saddened to hear that our local Cricket Club may be losing its ground and wanted to write to you with the school’s support. In recent times both during the headship of Mr Arnold and myself more recently, the children have enjoyed using the facilities at the cricket ground to develop their cricket skills. The school in partnership with yourselves has offered cricket coaching with local grass route players which inspired many children to continue their journey in sport and indeed cricket. I know first-hand how excited pupils were to visit the ground and actually train there! The school received Sports Games Gold award in the academic year 18/19 and was on track to receive this award again in 19/20 before the outbreak of Coronavirus. An instrumental part of this success was having links with local clubs like yourselves. Most of our club links due to the nature of the rural area are further away in places such as Crewkerne and Bridport. The Cricket Club in Broadwindsor is the only local club situated in the village itself which ensures local children can develop cricket skills beyond those taught in school without the need to travel beyond their community.
