This involves a legal agreement between the third party and the council to cover fee increases and continuity of payment. [Read December 16th, 1825.] XN presenting' an account of the manner in which the above rocks occur in. the vicinity of Lyme Regis and Beer, I by no means wish to engage in the discussion which has arisen respecting Green-sand; but merely to describe the rocks, as they exist in that neighbourhood. At the same time, I consider it as much to be regretted, that some general term is not given to the sands, marls, and clays which occur beneath the Chalk, as has been done in the case of the Oolite formation: the various parts might then be distinguished by different specific names, and there would be no more impropriety in grouping the Green and Ferruginous sands together, than in uniting under one term the various members of the Oolite formation, and distinguishing them by the names of Great and Inferior oolite, Kimmeridge and Oxford clays*, &c. Some such arrangement as this would prevent much uncertainty: for at pre­ sent when the term Green-sand is used alone, without further distinction, we may be led to confound two different things. Moreover, we are in want of a general appellation by which to denote these rocks collectively; for we are not to suppose that all the small divisions that may be made in this collection of sands, marls, and clays in the east of England, can be traced into other and distant countries, where, however, the sands, &c., as a mass may be easily recognised.

    WELCOME! It’s great to have The White Lion roaring back into life again, in the hands of our new landlords, Vikki and Spike. We wish them all the very best of luck – and it’s down to us, as a community, to support them. We might not all be drinkers but having a thriving pub in the centre of the village is good for all of us. If you haven’t already done so, please pop in and say hello. I’m pleased to say that the challenge I threw down in the last issue about getting the village pump going again is beginning to bear fruit. Watch this space, as they say. And the Brownies are planning to put a tub of plants next to the pump, so that’ll brighten things up a bit. Again, there’s lots going on in the village and the surrounding area this month. Don’t forget the Fireworks at Bernards’ Place on 4 November. It’s free admission to this event, but the Jubilee Group does appreciate your donations, as fireworks aren’t cheap. Food will be served from 6pm but please don’t leave it too late to get your hot dog or burger, as one visitor did last year and then complained that it was ‘disgusting’ that the food had run out before they got there at 7pm. The fireworks will last for approximately half an hour, so please keep your pets indoors. I always leave Radio Four on for mine.     Uplyme Parish Council 55 Shearwater Way, Seaton, Devon, EX12 2FT Tel: 07413 947067 Chairman: Councillor Chris James – Vice Chair: Councillor Paulene Frost - Clerk: Ricky Neave Minutes of the meeting of Uplyme Parish Council held at the Uplyme Village Hall on Wednesday, 11th March 2020 at 7.15pm. Present: Councillors Councillor A Turner, Pratt, Trundley, Mason, Duffin, James (Chair), Ostler, Pullinger, Frost and 8 members of the public. In attendance: The Parish Clerk, Ricky Neave Key: Councillors Hand Vote (For – Against) 7.15pm Public Question Time Public Bodies (admissions to meetings) Act 1960 s1 extended by the LG Act 972 s 100. Resident highlighted and complained about the state of the potholes and blocked up drainage and ditches adjacent to highways which are pushing the surface water back on to the roads and flooding private land in Uplyme. County Councillor Ian Hall received the complaints and would investigate on why this is happening. Councillor James remarked that drainage and ditches that were initially maintained by Highways, are now suddenly, the responsibility of the landowner. Report from County Councillor – Mr Ian Lloyd Hall Councillor Ian Hall updated Uplyme on the continued progress of Community groups in a triangle of towns in East Devon and West Dorset which are proposing to formalise a joint forum to cover all the angles of health and social care for more than 42,000 people living in the catchment area. This will continue to build on the success of community conversations and subsequent surveys carried out by LymeForward, Seaton Area Health Matters and Axminster Health Needs. The forum would aim to secure a model of place-based care to best serve communities within a triangle formed by Axminster to the north, Seaton to the south and Lyme Regis to the east, striving to improve procurement and delivery of all aspects of health and social care, including: GP surgeries, NHS clinics and hospitals, Health hubs, Mental health services, Care for the elderly.

When the school closed the estate was developed for residential use with many old buildings being converted. It is a pleasant quiet development with its own private beach. LENGTH OF WALK - 4.6miles (Allow 2 ¼ to 2 ¾ hours.) DIFFICULTY RATING - DIRECTIONS FROM LYME REGIS - From Broad Street in Lyme Regis fork left onto A3052 Sidmouth and Exeter road for three miles to Rousdon. Go past the Rousdon Estate gates on the left and the entrance to the Dower House Hotel on the right and immediately turn left into a country lane. Follow the lane for 0.7 of a mile and park in a small lay-by on the left with Dowlands House ahead of you.
