2008 2008 Tiger Pride Award Recipient Larry Fuller, BS Ed '71 Larry has displayed his Tiger pride for more than 37 years! One of the places Larry and his family settled before coming back to Boone County was in Kansas City. While in KC, Larry was on the KC Alumni Board and coordinated the KC “Friends of Mizzou” Picnic and Auction. Over time, that annual event has raised more than $100,000 to support student scholarships. Larry began his work with the Boone County Alumni Chapter more than 18 years ago. In that time, Larry has served 5 years as the President of the chapter, he has hosted countless watch parties and committee meetings at his house at his own expense, and he has been a tireless fundraiser. From golf tournaments to “Mizzou Night with the Arts”, Larry has always been focused on the Chapter’s primary goals of providing scholarships to the best and brightest students from Boone County while at the same time enjoying the company of fellow Mizzou Alumni and friends. Larry’s efforts have not been contained at the local level. He served on the Alumni Associations International Board from 1997-2001 and just yesterday he began serving another term with the MAA Governing Board. He also works with the Phoenix Arizona chapter to line up a terrific Mizzou experience for at-risk 6th graders who travel from Arizona to campus each winter to learn more about the value of attending college and specifically about attending Mizzou. And, not to be contained by US borders, Larry has also been known to share his tiger pride all over the world. There was Oktoberfest in Germany that Larry will have to tell you about later because we are out of time and cannot possibly tell you all of the wonderful things that Larry has done for our Mizzou. Congratulations to Larry Fuller, our 2008 Tiger Pride recipient.

2008 Tiger Pride Award Recipient Corky J. Knock, BS PA '57 It should say something about the individual impact and charisma of a leader when he can be recognized simply by his greeting on the phone, . . . . “Hey, Tiger. How are things in Columbia?” That voice of pride belongs to this year’s Regional TIGER PRIDE AWARD recipient, Corky J. Knock. Corky is a founding member of the Tornado Alley Tigers and serves as the Membership Chair for this chapter, serving the greater Wichita, Kansas area. The chapter credits him as the driving force that increased the chapter’s dues paying membership by 50% over a two year period. And while the measureable impact of Corky’s efforts are impressive, it is the intangible benefit of what he does to promote and celebrate Mizzou that is perhaps most notable. It is not always easy to show your Tiger stripes in Kansas’ largest city -- surrounded by what Corky refers to as “those bird things”. Still, through many years of service, Corky has retained and inspired pride in Ol’ Mizzou. It is important to note that with Corky, we really get 2 for 1. His talented and gracious wife Kathleen is also an important part of the chapter’s success. And while she may be a Berkeley graduate herself, she has a heart that bleeds black and gold and we know that he shares this award with her. While we all enjoy the camaraderie and fun of chapter involvement, it is people like Corky that remind us that at its core, alumni relations is about maintaining and supporting the ties that connect us to the . Corky demonstrates this with his actions and inspires us with the way he LEADS for Mizzou. To state it simply, and in the words of one of his nominators, “CORKY KNOCK ROCKS!” Congratulations to our 2008 Regional TIGER PRIDE AWARD recipient, Corky J. Knock.

2008 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award Recipient Blakely J. Pryor, BS BA '99, JD '02 Blake Pryor has been recognizes as a valuable member of the Kansas City Chapter. During his leadership tenure, he has been instrumental in saving the chapter money for a new website, building a Kid Zone with his wife Kelli for the Friends of Mizzou Annual Picnic, and leading the Tiger Ball Steering Committee to have record attendance and raising funds of over $116,000 in two years. Furthermore, he created and implemented a new electronic reservation and auction check-out systems to streamline the chapter operations. Blake has been active at Mizzou since his student days. He is an alumnus of Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity, was a member of the Interfraternity Council Executive Board, made the MU’s Dean’s List, played the euphonium in the University Band and was “tapped” for Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) and the Rollins Society. His impressive resume doesn’t stop there. Among his accolades, he was a finalist of the Mock Trial and Moot Court Competitions, became a co-chair and member of the Board of Advocates for the Fall Moot Court Company, and won the Best Production Award for Most Valuable Contribution to the Missouri Law Review’s Production. His nominators recognized that Blake’s “‘volunteer spirit’ shines through in all his work for the Kansas City chapter.” Blake’s service to the association and his altruistic nature, provide the picture of volunteerism that we recognize tonight. The judge and jury of the Mizzou Alumni Association proudly have reached its verdict to provide the 2008 Regional Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award to Blakely Pryor.

2008 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award Recipient Misty Jackson, BS HES '00 A passionate alumna and selfless leader, Misty Jackson embodies the Tiger spirit as an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer of the Mizzou Alumni Association. Volunteers are at the heart of the Association, and Misty understands the essential role they play in spreading the black and gold throughout Tiger nation. Misty recognized the importance of service and volunteerism early on during her time at Mizzou. She served as President of Little Sisters of Pearls & Rubies, was a member of the Homecoming Core Committee, and was active with the Association of Textile and Apparel Management. As a member of these organizations, she also participated in Rockin’ Against Multiple Sclerosis and numerous blood drives. When Misty earned a degree in Textile and Apparel Management from Mizzou in 2000, her connection to the University of Missouri only strengthened. Misty moved to St. Louis where she immediately got involved as an alumni volunteer with the Gateway Tigers. She was active with one of the chapter’s signature events, the Roarin’ Reunion, and eventually co-chaired the committee. She later chaired the chapter’s social committee and held the position until her job took her to New York City in 2006. It was at that time that Misty met fellow alumni and got involved in reorganizing the Metropolitan New York City Alumni Chapter. In her role with the chapter as social chair, Misty was very dedicated to planning fun and unique events to engage local alumni. As New York City chapter president Tom Downs noted in his letter of support, “Misty Jackson is woven into the DNA of the chapter, and every success that the chapter has achieved, can, in some way, be attributed to the hard work of Misty.” Last summer, the chapter lost this talented volunteer when she moved back to St. Louis. But as they say, one chapter’s loss is another chapter’s gain, and now that Misty is back in St. Louis, she is once again involved with the St. Louis Alumni Chapter and serves as the young alumni committee chair. For her outstanding leadership, service and dedication to MU, the Mizzou Alumni Association is proud to present the 2008 Regional Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award to Misty Jackson.

2008 Alumni Legacy Award Harold H. (Hal) Lurie, MD Dr. Hal … Lewd Lurie from Southern Missouri… the Singing Doctor… all names for Harold (Hal) Lurie, the first recipient of the Alumni Legacy Award. Hal Lurie was born in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Lithuanian immigrant, Ed Lurie and his wife Jeanette. In Springfield Dr. Lurie obtained his primary education and subsequently earned a high school diploma and 3 college degrees in 4 different states, from coast to coast. Following his medical residency in St. Louis, he returned to Springfield and has been a citizen of that city since 1952. His career as an internist spans more than 5 decades and continues today as a part time consultant for Cox Health in Springfield. Above, beyond and throughout this exemplary career, Hal has made time to be a proud supporter of Mizzou – through this words, actions and his generous donations. Dr. H has been active at the University of Missouri Medical School Alumni Organization and the Medical School Foundation, having served as president of both. In addition Hal has been president of the Greater Ozarks Alumni Chapter and served a two year term on the Mizzou Alumni Association Board of Directors as a district representative from southern Missouri. During his term as president of the Greater Ozarks Chapter, Hal planned a caravan to a football game. He made all the arrangements and only called the alumni office to ask for assistance with making the trip more enjoyable for the alumni guests. This caring for others’ comfort is a hallmark of his career as a physician as well as his volunteerism for Mizzou. One of Hal’s proudest activities is his participation with the Singing Doctors of Springfield, Missouri. This group sang at medical meetings across the country for more than 30 years. The group recorded 7 albums and sold the records to raise funds to help support medical students. After the group stopped singing, they took the money from their fund and transferred it to the University of Missouri Medical School to set up an Endowed Scholarship Fund. That fund is now valued at more than half a million dollars, providing 4 medical students each year with a stipend of $6,000. For these gifts, during a lifetime of selfless generosity, the Mizzou Alumni Association is proud to present Hal Lurie with the 2008 Alumni Legacy Award. 2007 2007 Tiger Pride Award Recipient Melodie Powell, BA '77, JD '81 After graduating with two degrees from Mizzou, Melodie has served the Mizzou Alumni Association for more than 20 years. Of those 20 years, nearly all of them were spent in key leadership positions. I want to share some of the different ways that Melodie has served Mizzou: At the Local Level Melodie has served as the President of the Cole County Chapter, Vice Chair of the Kansas City Chapter, Chair of the Kansas City Scholarship Committee, Chair of the Kansas City Student Recruitment Committee and given countless hours and personal donations to K.C’s two premier fundraising events, the KC Picnic and the KC Tiger Ball. At the National Level Melodie has served as a Member on the Mizzou Legislative Committee. She has chaired the Rules Committee. She has chaired the Board nominating committee. She assumed the most time intensive and highest volunteer role in our organization in the year 2000 when she served as the MAA International Board President. During her term as President she initiated and chaired a committee which developed a long range plan for the MAA that still serves us today. Most recently, she co-founded the Griffiths Leadership Society, serves on the Leadership Development Committee and is active with the Past President’s Council. Campus-wide Melodie has been tapped into two of the most prestigious honor organizations on our campus, QEBH and Mortar Board. She also serves on the Arts & Science Strategic Development Board. She is a Jefferson Club Distinguished Fellow and serves as the MAA representative on the Strategic Planning Resource Advisory Board for the entire campus. One of her many supporters had this to say about Melodie, “She is an amazing leader, a dedicated volunteer, a role model to many colleagues and students, and a Tiger to the bone! We are here tonight to thank Melodie for her work promoting, growing and leading Mizzou. Mizzou is one of the top Universities in the country in part because we have alumni like Melodie Powell. Melodie, the Association is honored to present Melodie Powell with the 2007 Missouri PRIDE award.

2007 Tiger Pride Award Recipient Sherri Forrest-Gallick, BSEd '82 As a 1982 Mizzou graduate with a degree in Education, Sherri is a lifetime member of the Mizzou Alumni Association. The alumni chapter of central Indiana was practically non-existent until a few years ago when, while attending a tailgate party prior to a Mizzou football game against Ball State in Muncie, Indiana, Sherri embarked on restoring the roar in central Indiana. In May of 2004, Sherri volunteered to host a meeting at her home to commence the organization of a formal chapter. The fifteen plus people attending the meeting initiated the Indiana Mizzou Crew. Sherri performed the role of hostess admirably by not only holding many of the following meetings in her home, but undertaking the assignments of working on chapter bylaws, attending Leaders Weekend, editing the chapter newsletter, and keeping the chapter up to date and on task. Through Sherri’s diligence, the Indiana Mizzou Crew achieved Columns status. Because of her hard work, Sherri was elected chapter president, a job she worked at tirelessly, until January 2007, when her husband’s job moved the family to Memphis, Tennessee. Sherri’s determination and will as a leader and team worker make her a strong role model for everyone following in her footsteps. We are delighted this evening to present the Regional Tiger Pride Award to Sherri Forrest-Gallick.

2007 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award Recipient Jon Lawrence, BA '98 Jon Lawrence awakened the ‘sleeping tiger’ in Tulsa, Oklahoma four years ago, when he single-handedly brought that chapter back into service. He has been the president since then, guiding and leading other volunteers to take on various aspects of leadership in the chapter, while providing an array of activities that keep local alumni involved with Mizzou. Jon’s focus on providing a variety of activities, coupled with his creative thinking, have provided the basis for several popular activities. A watch party, in Jon’s eyes, also becomes an event to host a visiting coach from Mizzou. A caravan to watch a Mizzou team also becomes a venue for fund-raising. A send-off event for scholarship students doubles as a special dinner for board members. Each activity is carefully crafted with more than one goal in mind. Jon has brought fun and a sense of meaningful purpose to the chapter’s calendar of activities. Successful chapter efforts garnered Jon an Emerging Leader Scholarship in 2004 and led to him being invited to present at Leaders Training – more than once! During the same time, Jon has served the association on the scholarship selection committee and was also recruited to serve as a member of the Association’s Diversity Committee. This year he has been elected chairman of that committee. His nominators recognized that Jon’s hard work and his enthusiasm for Mizzou have been the foundation of the Tulsa Chapter’s success. Jon’s service to the association at various levels are in addition to his chapter service and together, provide the picture of volunteerism that we recognize tonight, as the Mizzou Alumni Association proudly presents the 2007 Regional Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award to Jon Lawrence.

2007 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award Recipient Ray Perez Described by one nominator as “bleeding gold Sunday through Tuesday, black Wednesday through Friday, and black and gold on Saturdays,” it is clear that Ray Perez embodies the Tiger spirit. This pride in Mizzou was evident from the moment Ray stepped on campus through his involvement with organizations such as MSA, Greek Life and the Mizzou Alumni Association Student Board. When Ray earned his degree from Mizzou in 1997, his involvement with the university and association didn’t graduate with him. Over the past few years, Ray has worked to reestablish the Southeast Missouri Black & Gold Alumni Chapter, an alumni chapter originally founded in 1906. The organization has thrived as a result of Ray’s vision and, as one nominator stated his leadership has been wonderful and the chapter would not exist today were it not for Ray. As a chapter leader, Ray has worked with other board members to organize events in southeast Missouri including service projects, student recruitment events, and a Tiger Caravan. Annually, the chapter has a full calendar of events and was recognized earlier today with a Capstone award, the Association’s highest level of recognition for chapters participating in the Columns Program. Ray Perez’s involvement with Mizzou is a reflection of his passion for Missouri’s flagship university. As a result, Ray was unanimously nominated by the nominating committee and board of directors of the Southeast Missouri Black and Gold Alumni Chapter. His passion, leadership, and enthusiasm for Mizzou have helped catapult the chapter, spreading the black and gold throughout southeast Missouri. For his outstanding leadership, the Mizzou Alumni Association is proud to present the 2007 Missouri Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award to Ray Perez.

2006 Jean Thompson, BSN '63; MBA '71 2006 Missouri Tiger Pride Many make volunteering a part of their lives; few make it a lifetime com - mitment. Jean Thompson is one of them. Nominated by Caroline Davis, on behalf of the MU Nursing Alumni Organization, Jean embodies the highest levels of sustained volunteerism. Her 30 - year volunteer service has revealed itself in a variety of ways for MU, the Sinclair School of Nursing, the MU Nursing Alumni Organization and the Mizzou Alumni Association. Jean is a sustaining member of the Jefferson Club and University of Missouri Fortnightly Club . This past year she has chaired two of their committees and par - ticipated in two additional committees as well. For the Sinclair School of Nursing Jean has served as chair or co - chair of two celebratory committees, served as com - mittee member on four ongoing committees of the school and been an active member on the search committees of the last four deans of the School. Not only generous with her time and talents, Jean is also generous with her do - nations. She is a founding and sustaining member of the Nightingale Society. She established and funded the Warner - Thompson Endowed Master's student in Nursing Administration Fellowship. And she is a life member of the Mizzou Alumni Association. For the Nursing Alumni Organization we would like to list all her activities, but are concerned that there might not be time for dessert! The list is 1 page, single - spaced! We will include that Jean has served two terms as president, and is a recipient of the School's Citation of Merit Award. Her personal relationships and “go to” volunteerism have won her the respect of alumni, students, faculty and administrators. With the Alumni Association Jean is active in legislative support, has served on the International Board of Directors, is an annual participant in Leaders Training and can be caught serving ice cream each year at Tiger Walk. When Jean enters a room, wearing black and gold, it is clear that - - both inside and out - - she embodies Tiger Pride.

Gabriel Gillette, BS Ag ‘75 2006 Regional Tiger Pride Humble and selfless, Gabriel Gillette shies away from recognition for his volunteerism. However, his nominator, Kellie Ann Christie, describes him as the “glue that holds the Memphis/Mid - South Chapter together.” Although Gabriel is an Advanced Placement Chemistry and Physics teacher at West Memphis High School and works with kids every day, he also continues that focus in many of his volunteer efforts. For his chapter, Gabriel heads up the annual scholarship award process. By evaluating each application and carefully reading each essay, he saves the chapter board time and effort when it comes to selecting the most qualified recipient. He also represents the Chapter at local student recruitment events. If anyone misses his passion for MU, all they have to do is look in his classroom, where he proudly displays the Chapter's Capstone Column award! In addition, Gabriel, leads the chapter's charitable campaign to collect outer wear for the “Coats for Kids” project. He personally cleans and repairs each jacket and never seeks recognition for the hours he donates to this activity. Gabriel is a dedicated member of the Chapter's executive board. Regardless of the chapter event, he is the first to arrive and the last to leave. He willingly uses “elbow grease” to ensure the event is a success. Having been a life member of the Alumni Association for 20 years, Gabriel has demonstrated appreciation for the variety of ways the Association provides for alumni to stay connected to Mizzou. He shows this appreciation annually – or semi - annually! – by baking dozens of cookies and his famous rum cake and sending them to Columbia for the Alumni Staff to enjoy. In addition, he works locally to help fellow grads in his teaching field connected with happenings both on campus and with the Memphis/Mid - South Chapter and encourages those who are not members to join the Association. Commitment defines Gabriel. He never takes vacation from school and has been proud of his perfect attendance record at West Memphis High. However, last year he chose to break this record for Mizzou, when he attended his first Leaders Weekend. Again this year, Gabriel chose Mizzou over his personal record and returned to campus.

Robyn Baker, BS Ag ‘99 2006 Missouri Mizzou G.O.L.D. When Robyn Baker took off her cap and gown, she wasted no time putting on the cape of leadership in the Callaway County Chapter. In his support of her nomination, former president Marty Kehoe called Roby the “MVP ” of the chapter! Nominator, Mary Ann Beahan, concurs. Heather jumped into volunteerism right after her graduation. She has served the Callaway County Chapter as Secretary for 2 terms and as President for 2 terms. These titles do not begin to reflect the array of ways in which Robyn has given active support through her Chapter. During her tenure on the Board, Robyn has compiled 4 nominations for the Chapter and chaired the Student Send - Off Picnic 4 years in a row. She has chaired, co - chaired or served on three other Chapter committees. Last year, Robyn was invited to present a session at Leaders Training, based on her success in chapter management. At one of the sessions she attended, she learned some new ideas from other leaders and subsequently developed the “Sock - it to the Jayhawks” project, collecting new white socks at a watch party and delivering them to nursing home patients. While her primary focus for the Chapter has been in leadership of alumni activities, she has also participated actively in activities that focus on future alumni. Giving high school seniors a taste of Tiger Stripe Ice Cream to further excite them about attending MU and expanding that to include MU alumni who are educators, won her accolades from fellow board members, as well as widening the circle of Mizzou's influence in Callaway County .

Heather Starek, BJ ‘97 2006 Regional Mizzou G.O.L.D. Energy is the word that appeared most often in the nomination that Brian Murphy, President, submitted on behalf of the Washington D. C. Chapter. Brian and others credit Heather with moving the D.C. Chapter forward with her determination, organization and energy. For her chapter, Heather serves on the Board and has been a primary event coordinator. She manages the overall aspects of the chapter's three annual events. At the same time, she works to find new ways to engage alumni through use of new venues or events. Dedication is another word used to describe Heather's role in the Chapter. Never a quitter, Heather makes sure that even the slightest glitch is corrected seamlessly. While responsibility and attention to detail characterize her event management role, Heather is also an active assistant in activities for which she was not the coordinator. When she was needed in the fall, Heather also stepped up to the plate and represented Mizzou at two of the college nights in the D.C. area. Heather's service as a DC Chapter dynamo has spanned three plus years, and other leaders credit her with being the individual most responsible for returning the Chapter to Columns level achievement last year. 2005 Jill Waldrop, BA ‘90 2005 Regional Tiger Pride Since 1996 Jill has been an active leader on the Valley of the Sun Chapter Board. For many alumni in Phoenix , Arizona , Jill Waldrop's name is synonymous with Mizzou! Having served locally in almost every leadership role on the chapter board, Jill manages several major projects as well. On a regular basis, she hosts or co-hosts watch parties and rallies alumni to serve meals at St. Vincent de Paul several times a year. Jill is Mizzou's representative on the Big 12 Alumni board, spearheading the annual picnic each fall. Jill attends monthly meetings along with other volunteers to develop the picnic's agenda and carry out the event. At the picnic, she continues as an active leader for Mizzou alumni, greeting them and making sure each guests understands where events will be held and how to participate. Jill was the driving force behind the chapter adopting a class of students at Tertulia Charter School . Volunteers serve as mentors to the students, participate in class projects and assist a group of 7 th graders who come to Mizzou to explore what college is like. Jill Waldrop is their personal chaperone, setting up the 3-day agenda, arranging for meals, a visit with the Chancellor and several campus activities. Service is the hallmark of Jill's volunteering and in 2002 the chapter honored Jill with its Rozanne Hird Volunteer of the Year Award.

Ed Travis, BS BA ‘56 2005 Missouri Tiger Pride For 32 years Ed Travis has been the owner and president of Management Recruiters of West County, Inc. He's been a Mizzou fan a lot longer! Since his first Tiger football game 62 years ago, Ed's love affair with Mizzou has included serving 11 years on committees and boards, involving more than 150 meetings in Columbia, countless hours – he does his homework – and more than 150,000 miles of travel. In addition, Ed has been the president of the Mizzou Quarterback Club of St. Louis and president of the Mizzou Alumni Association. Each of these leadership roles was preceded by several years of progressive leadership responsibilities. Currently he is Chair of the Association's Past President's Council. The Association's birthday for Mizzou, known as Tim e of the Tiger, was the brainchild of Ed Travis . He is also credited with the idea to build the Reynolds Alumni Center in the heart of campus. With his talents, he spearheaded fundraising efforts to purchase the Paul Christman Memorial Carillon, the Football Helmet Cart and Big-MO, the world's 3 rd largest drum. Five years ago Ed composed a poem that ends with “From the University you graduate and become an alumnus. You never…you can't…graduate from Ol' Mizzou; it simply won't let you! Ed Travis is proof that is true.

Tiffani Williams, BS Ag ‘95 2005 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Awardee Tiffani Williams is more valuable than GOLD to the Audrain County Alumni Chapter – so says her nominator and everyone who wrote letters of support. Tiffani not only helped organize the Audrain County Chapter almost 4 years ago, but she is also its current secretary. In addition to those duties, Tiffani maintains reports and is a link with the Alumni Association, submitting articles and keeping chapter information updated. She is regularly a “go-to” person for any chapter activity. Never shy about Mizzou, Tiffani's outgoing personality and bright smile draw people to her, and the conversations – sooner or later – turn to Mizzou! She holds season tickets for and football and is credited with pulling off the 2004 fall kickoff chapter activity and being a key player in the chapter's “Sock it to You” Founders' event in February. Tiffani has many business and community connections. She uses these to make things happen for the chapter and for Mizzou! Those are some of the reasons Tiffani was invited to be a presenter last year at Leaders training. Her organizational skills, coupled with a “can do” attitude and actions, make her a praise-worthy leader.

Jonathan Curtright, BS BA '91, MHA '96, MBA '98, 2005 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Jonathan Curtright has been the driving force to change the free-standing Health Management and Informatics Alumni Organization into a chartered organization of the Mizzou Alumni Association. He served as president of the organization for two years, providing leadership in developing programs for HMI students as well as for the alumni association. During his term as president Jonathan worked to recruit an active alumni board of directors and develop bylaws that would work for the organization and with the association. His tireless, sensitive efforts made this transition virtually seamless to the group's membership. In addition to this leadership role, Jonathan also recognized the importance of working with students to develop their professionalism and their lifelong relationship with Mizzou. In that regard, he developed a mentor program for entering master's students that matched students with alumni professionals. To achieve this process, he made himself available at several student programs to share “real world” advice and to demonstrate what it means to be a successful alumni member and University representative. Jonathan continues his outstanding leadership through support of management interns at Mayo, through his personal contributions to the department and by serving on various alumni committees.

2004 2004 Tiger Pride Award Tom Schultz, BJ ’56 of Columbia, Missouri Fierce devotion and ‘get it done energy’ were used by one nominator to describe Tom Schultz’s loyalty for Mizzou. Having served in many volunteer roles as well as many staff roles, Tom has been a 24-7 Mizzou supporter, since his graduation in 1956. From chapter leader in California and Wisconsin to District Director in the Lake of the Ozarks area, Tom made supporting MU a priority in his life. As one nominator wrote, “Tom was a go-to guy. He made things happen.” In fact, by 1980 his successful service had propelled him into the presidency of the Alumni Association. That was followed quickly in 1981 by his appointment as Vice Chancellor of Alumni Relations. Tom is best known for his spirit and enthusiasm. Add to that his experience and knowledge, and you can understand why he is often seen mentoring newer staff members. He is generous with his time and advice. He leads by example and rallys others to give of their time and treasure on behalf of the Alma Mater. Even now, in retirement, Tom continues to stomp for Mizzou!

2004 Tiger Pride Award Al Westland, BA ’45, of Memphis, Tennessee Al Westland is the Chapter historian, but his nominator described him as the ‘Chapter heart.” An inspiring member of the Memphis-Mid South Alumni Chapter, history has shown there is no limit to his active love for Mizzou. When younger members are slowing down, Al is taking a new grad for a “pep talk” breakfast. When some are disappointed in the athletic scores, Al can be seen sporting his gold jacket and smiling at the chance to watch his Tigers play. He looks out for all Tigers in Memphis and goes out of his way to garner support for chapter projects. In addition to making calls, writing letters or attending meetings, Al will offer rides and rearrange his schedule so another alum can attend an event. Although he calls himself an “Aging Tiger” few members see him that way. Al and his wife, Pat, are often seen demonstrating more exuberance for MU than younger fans! Regardless of age, race or background, Al finds common ground to bring alumni together. He is a True Son of Old Mizzou.

2004 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award Rachel Greene, BA ’97, Political Science, of St. Louis, Missouri From Roaring Reunion Committee to president of MU’s largest alumni chapter, Rachel Greene has been an active leader for Mizzou over the past seven years. In addition to leadership, Rachel has attended and supported numerous alumni events in St. Louis as well as in Columbia and chapter areas where she has visited. As the president elect and legislative chair for the St. Louis Chapter, Rachel has held her own with the media, during a time of controversy. She is knowledgeable and current on legislation that affects the University and readily promotes issues of importance to MU. In addition to leading the St. Louis Alumni Chapter, Rachel also finds time to attend many athletic events. She helped the chapter build a strong relationship with the St. Louis Tiger Club. Her goal-oriented style of leadership has helped the St. Louis board develop a strong sense of teamwork. Rachel has also participated as a volunteer for the American Heart Association, and finds time to volunteer service for her sorority, Alpha Phi. Rachel Greene’s leadership combines pragmatic style with a passion for service.

2004 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award MeLinda Via Schnyder, BJ ’93, News-Editorial, of Wichita, Kansas Her nominator characterized MeLinda Schnyder as the driving force behind the organization and success of the alumni chapter in Wichita, Kansas. Since its beginning in 2002, the Tornado Alley Tigers Chapter has thrived under MeLinda’s leadership. Road trips, college fairs, Founders’ Celebration and family picnics are only a few of the events that MeLinda has organized in Wichita. She reached out to fellow Tigers, seeking their ideas and input. To engage alumni in a variety of events, MeLinda uses e-newsletters and email notices to keep alumni informed and involved. She showed sensitivity to how the cost of events might affect attendance, and worked to develop a variety of activities that would appeal to alumni of all ages. Easily recognizable, this MU Tiger is always seen wearing black and gold! Melinda is proud to be a tiger and that pride extends to the array of MU pictures she proudly displays in her office – a rare and brave act, deep in the heart of Jayhawk and Wildcat territory! MeLinda’s knowledgeable and enthusiastic leadership is very much appreciated by the members of her chapter.

2003 2003 Tiger Pride Award Sandy Hamilton Regional Tiger Pride Awardee Sandy Hamilton, BSAg ’82 Regional Tiger Pride recipient, Sandra Hamilton, BS Ag ’82, is the go-to woman in the Rocky Mountain Tigers Chapter. A meteorology major, Sandy currently works as a software engineer. The Rocky Mountain Tigers Chapter defined Sandra Hamilton as a multi-talented alumni leader. Sandy has served the chapter in two officer roles and managed several major activities. While Sandy readily offers to “get things done” for events, from socials to watch parties, she offers her talents to improve the chapter’s ability to manage its affairs. As treasurer, she developed accounting and money tracking procedures – procedures that are still used. She also maintains the chapter web site. A multi-talented leader, Sandy organized the RMT’s Women’s Brunch diversity event last year. She identified the speaker, developed the program, selected the menu, and coordinated the details with the location staff. She attended the event and represented the chapter board. Twice Sandy and her family have hosted the chapter garage sale, donating numerous items, in addition to feeding those who helped staff the event. She has also served as chapter host for several athletic watch parties throughout the metro Denver area. This includes driving a minimum of 30 miles to any of these activities. Attending almost every board meeting, Sandy presents new ideas, as well as gives constructive feedback. As Vice President, she substitutes for the president, representing the chapter, providing support or leading an event. The Chapter honored Sandy with its 2001 Officer of the Year service award, in recognition of her outstanding service.

2003 Tiger Pride Award Mitchell M. Murch Missouri Tiger Pride Awardee Mitchell M. Murch, BSBA ’52 With more than 50 years of volunteer service to the Association, including 17 years as chairman the Alumni Center Management Committee, and serving as Association President in 1973, Mitchell Murch, BSBA ’52, is the Missouri Tiger Pride recipient. The name Mitch Murch is synonymous with alumni centers at Mizzou! While serving on the alumni board in the late 1960s Mitch was appointed chair of a development committee to raise funds for a much-needed alumni center building. After helping identify a location and making many personal visits with potential donors, the Center became a reality in 1977. That was MU’s first alumni center, but it was not Mitch Murch’s first volunteer effort. Immediately upon graduation Mitch got involved with his local alumni chapter, the St. Louis Chapter and later served two terms as chapter president, where he was recognized for expanding the chapter’s activities. Mitch has served the Association in a variety of national roles. Appointed to the Alumni Center Management Committee, Mitch served on that committee as chairman for 17 years. During his tenure, Mitch’s committee played a key role in the development of MU’s second alumni building, the Donald W. Reynolds Alumni Center. On the executive board, Mitch has held every office, including serving as President in 1973. As an active member of the Past Presidents Council, he has continued to particate in their annual meeting and, just recently he created and chaired the Association’s efforts to raise money for the Madden Tiger, the centerpiece of the Tiger Plaza. The ability to achieve outstanding professional success, coupled with passionate, ongoing service to Mizzou earned Mitch the coveted Faculty-Alumni Award and then later, the Distinguished Alumni Award.

On these visits students, as well as counselors, were contacted. Current information about MU was provided and news of the chapter’s scholarship program was shared. Last spring the chapter assembled “care packages” for each MU student from the Omaha area. Students stopped by the alumni center, met the leaders and picked up their gifts, including items to enjoy during finals. Greg Bailey’s leadership of the Tigers of the Corn combines a passion for bringing people together around a shared goal with his personal attention to each person he meets.

2002 Tiger Pride Award Brock Hessing Athlete, scholarship chair, president and proud parent are only four titles that can be used to describe the active loyalty of this Tiger Pride winner. Brock Hessing has helped organize a chapter, reorganize an affinity and headed up the Association. As a ‘founding father’ of the Greater Peoria Alumni Chapter, Brock has held every office, including president. He has hosted events in his home and in his work place. At the same time he has been an on-going force in promoting and maintaining the chapter’s scholarship program. During much of the past 22 years, Brock has held dual leadership roles in both his chapter and in the Association. Having served in various positions on the national board including as a regional director and 4 officer positions, Brock was elected president of the Alumni Association in 1996. Developing open communications and a closer relationship with the Board of Curators are two major achievements, along with recommending the credit card program that continues to produce significant income for the Association. Over the past two years Brock has led the Varsity M Association to become a chartered affinity within the Alumni Association. This relationship strengthens both organizations and adds to the overall support of Mizzou. His sustained leadership shows no sign of waning. With daughter Hannah, a 2002 Mizzou grad now living and working in Chicago, Brock may have a new target for his volunteer service. In the meantime, when not making regular visits to Columbia, he resides in Peoria, Illinois with his wife Shirley.

2002 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award Jill Palucci ‘Spirit’ is one word that appeared in each nominator’s letter for Jill Palucci. Beyond that, Jill’s volunteer service is characterized by a comprehensive leadership style that has touched many alumni in her chapter. On campus Jill had the chance to develop her own leadership style. She worked part time in the Alumni Office, learning the inside scoop on valuable ways that volunteers can really make a difference for MU. As a member of the Alumni Association Student Board she met alumni volunteers and learned firsthand, of the efforts of many more volunteers. Upon moving to Memphis, Jill became active in the Memphis-Mid South Chapter right away. Attendance quickly developed into volunteering and that led to leadership. As president of her chapter Jill has paved the way for a variety of chapter events designed for families of all ages. Jill regularly solicits opinions from members on ways to improve the chapter and accommodate all members. One supporter especially praised Jill’s concern for what he calls “Ancient Tigers.” Taking time to recognize health needs and to visit personally with alumni, Jill has helped many guests feel welcome at chapter activities. As one fan reported, “Jill is smart, courteous and considerate of everyone.” The Chapter leaders report that Jill is a perfect Mizzou ambassador, displaying her Association member decal and showing those around her that she is very proud to be a Tiger.

She has been a regular attendee at a variety of chapter events and instrumental in developing a database to track attendance and monetary transactions. In addition, Tina often goes the extra mile. She develops clever ways to enhance fund-raising activities. She started the “grab” bag idea at Grants Farm, and personally provided items such as Tiger tails, many of which she made. She also helped create the T-shirts, which resulted in additional proceeds. Even in her work with Ernst and Young, Tina regularly sent membership materials to new employees and helped recruit students from MU to work for E & Y. While her nominators have acknowledged that Tina’s service to Mizzou is often “behind the scenes,” they have reported she is very active in MLN, has participated in Tiger Club presentations and given personal community service, resulting in donations to the chapter. A season football ticket holder since her graduation, Tina is an all-season volunteer for Mizzou – and that’s the bottom line!

As an HES alumni leader she has served on that College's alumni board and in several leadership roles, including chairing the Development Committee. She continues to be an active leader on the alumni board and has added scholarship fund-raising and student recruiting to her breadth of service. Student recruiting is something she also does from her home - in Chicago! She is a Tiger Tracker and a regular at college nights in her area. In fact, the admissions office considers Carolyn its mainstay in Chicago. Campus recruiters are treated to dinner by Carolyn and she is often a speaker at Preview MU events in that city. For the Alumni Association Carolyn has been chair of the membership committee, held executive officer positions and served as president from March of 1994 through June of 1995. This past year she has served on the Association's Long Range Planning Committee, helping develop guideposts for the Association in the new millennium. Carolyn's service to MU has made her a "#1 Frequent Flier" with the airlines, since each meeting in Columbia meant a roundtrip ticket from Chicago! We'd like to add that you're #1 with us also - Congratulations, Tiger!

1999 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award Jennifer Nanna In his nomination of Jennifer Nanna, Jack Rice wrote, "in her heart she never left Columbia."With a 1995 degree in Journalism and unlimited enthusiasm, Jennifer Nanna is the 'spirit' of the Washington D. C. Chapter . We know this because 2 presidents of the chapter said so! What does she do in the Chapter? Jack Rice characterized her role as "probably the most miserable job in any volunteer organization" and he called it "ways & means." In the D.C. Chapter 'Ways and Means' is translated into "Coordinator of Special Events" - the first one to arrive and the last one to leave an event! She handles a myriad of details to see that the Chapter provides the "absolute best events for the Chapter members." In addition, Jennifer's marketing expertise has been devoted to fostering the chapter's goals. She is involved in every activity of the Chapter. She uses her development skills to identify and obtain donors for goods and services that the chapter can offer others at game watch parties and chapter events. Several times she has obtained airline tickets to be raffled for the chapter's scholarship program. AND, she has even obtained contributions from KU fans at game watch parties! Her nominators agree that Jennifer's enthusiasm for Mizzou knows no bounds, that her enthusiastic participation is contagious, and that she is personally responsible for the success of the annual chapter picnic. We agree with them! And are proud to present you with the 1999 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award. Congratulations, Jennifer!

1998 1998 Tiger Pride Award Mary Ann Eggers Beahon Mary Ann was nominated by Linda McCall, of the Callaway County Alumni Chapter for Mary Ann’s active leadership of that chapter. Linda soon learned that was only the tip of the iceberg! Although she spent some time in Kansas, moving to Florida was too far from the Mizzou she loved, so Mary Ann accepted an invitation to participate on an alumni planning committee in Miami. That proved to be a fateful event! Soon, she became enmeshed in all facets of alumni event planning. She arranged several alumni events, including visits from the Chancellor and the football coach, picnics, luncheons, and TV watch parties. In 1990 she was the founding president of the South Florida Alumni Chapter which included a 4-county area. She served in that role for 3 years, leading the chapter to Honor Status each year. She also served on the scholarship selection committee. In 1992 she was elected to serve on the Alumni Association board of directors, representing alumni from the Southeastern Region. Even Hurricane Andrew could not keep her from her volunteer duties, but in 1995 she had to resign when she moved back to Missouri and could no longer ‘represent’ alumni in Florida!! That didn’t stop her! She was aghast that there was no alumni chapter just 30 miles east of campus, so she set about starting one. Again she organized events, took pictures, kept scrapbooks, wrote news releases, made phone calls, and solicited new members. The Callaway County Chapter was chartered in May, 1996, has achieved Honor Status each year since then and Mary Ann continues to serve on the Chapter Board.

Mizzou. 1998 Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award Craig Lalumandier Two degrees at the same time! That just about describes Craig! Always achieving at least two successes simultaneously, and volunteerism is no exception. Although he calls St. Charles home, Craig is an active leader and immediate past president of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter. He has served in various roles on that chapter board and as a representative on the Association Board of Directors. He is described by his nominator, Dale Ludwig, BSAg 78, as charismatic and providing a key role in revitalizing the Mizzou at the Zoo event for area alumni. 1997 1997 Tiger Pride Award Dana Schultz The plaque read, "For distinguished service to alumni and the University of Missouri." But that was in 1981, when Dana L. Schultz received the "Every True Son of Ol' Mizzou" award from the Alumni Association. This Tiger Pride award proves things haven't changed much!! Since her graduation, Dana has maintained active leadership in alumni affairs wherever she has lived. First moving to Dallas, she was instrumental in re-organizing the Dallas Chapter, serving as chapter president and later as Membership Chair. At Mizzou, Dana earned a BS in Business Administration and is currently a Vice President of Private Banking at Texas Commerce Bank in San Antonio. When her career took her to San Antonio, where no active chapter existed, she organized one - one that has achieved Honor Status each year since then! She is now the chapter's membership chair. Like our other award winners, she too, leads from the front, as an annual donor and as a lifetime member of the Association. The Tiger Pride Award is a reflection of MU's pride in Dana's outstanding service!

1997 Tiger Pride Award S. Wayne Yokely S. Wayne Yokley's career supporting Mizzou began as he received his BS in Animal Science from the University and it has never wavered, only intensified. Currently Wayne is Director of Market Development for the Missouri Department of Agriculture. In that capacity he also promotes MU, making sure that young people have a chance to spend some time on campus. It's just one of the ways he takes the alumni recruitment mission seriously. Wayne is president of the Ag Alumni Organization and was instrumental in the creation of the Ag Unlimited Auction to raise scholarship monies. But he didn't stop there! He is also a member of the Cole County Chapter Board of Directors and has put his leadership skills to work at the annual Chapter Bar-B-Cue as well. Wayne's nominator wrote that his "exemplary promotion and vision of the University" set him apart as an outstanding volunteer. His willingness to work hard to showcase alumni activities and his tireless efforts in recruiting good students, caused one writer to say, " When I think of MU, I think of Wayne Yokley. When I think of Wayne Yokley, I think of MU!" There is no better testament to outstanding leadership than a role model who always brings to mind the University he honors with his volunteerism. This Tiger Pride award is presented with our deepest gratitude for your support of our alma mater. Congratulations, Tiger!

Congratulations to Lori Weiss, the MIZZOU G.O.L.D. winner for 1997!

1996 1996 Tiger Pride Award Dale Ludwig Tiger Pride. . . probably two of the best words to apply to Dale Ludwig. Dale is a Mizzou Tiger through and through. (Just ask his newborn son whose nursery is decorated in black and gold!) Dale is one who has put that pride to work for his alma mater in many ways. Dale began his “Mizzou Volunteer career” by becoming involved in the Ag Alumni Association, moving through its ranks to become president. While president, he was the driving force in establishing the Ag 100 Club. Dale’s volunteerism has expanded to include serving on the Cole County Alumni Board. That role led him to his present capacity as District 5 Director on the National Alumni Board. Dale earned a BS in Agriculture in 1978 and currently serves as Executive Director of the Missouri Soybean Council. He lives in Jefferson City with his wife Rhonda and son, Trent.

For more than 25 years, since first moving to Arizona, Don Prater has been the alumni contact for visitors, snow birds, and newcomers. Praising Don’s warm, nurturing style in her letter supporting his nomination, the student is now an alum and a volunteer leader herself! What goes around, does come around! Don Prater earned a BS in Public Administration in 1958 and negotiated contracts for Allied Signal during most of his working career.
