E 5 tips to help you win Juanita every debate round: Sanchez 1. Think as if you were your judge, not yourself. Remember, the only person whose opinion matters at Mount the end of the round is the judge’s, not yours! A Pleasant common mistake everyone in public speaking makes is assuming that because you understand the argument that your audience does as well. Take into account the Paul Cuffee judge’s debate experience before using a lot of debate http://www.riudl.org/debate-tips-tricks/ Page 1 of 4 Debate Tips & Tricks – Rhode Island Urban Debate League 2019/02/14 623 lingo, and make sure you look up at your judge while making a key point. This will both reinforce your argument because of the eye contact you will make, and it will allow you to look for signals from the judge (ie, Woonsocket shaking her head) that she understands you. 2. Always think comparatively. Every argument that you make, at the end of the round, will be compared against something the other team said. If you’re affirmative, for example, you should always be thinking in the mindset of “how does my plan compare to the status quo?” [i.e., doing nothing, what the negative frequently advocates]. -

Urban Debate Newsblast March 2007 Vol
Urban Debate NewsBlast March 2007 Vol. II, No. 1 You are receiving this NewsBlast because you are a believer in and backer of urban debate and the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues. We thank you very much for that support. Through our NewsBlasts, we intend to keep you aware of the highlights of the work of the NAUDL, and of the state of urban debate in the U.S. The NAUDL upholds and advances the urban debate mission by building, institutionalizing, expanding, and connecting Urban Debate Leagues. Your support helps make it possible for us to serve thousands of urban youth across the country. We also would welcome and look forward to your feedback. Please email us at [email protected] or call (312-427-8101) with your views. The NAUDL Launches Three Year Expansion Plan with New UDLs and a National Championship Among Objectives Over the past several years the NAUDL has focused hard on its mission of increasing the number of urban students participating in debate programs. Its reach has effectively been restricted, however, by the organization’s limited “bandwith” – the fact that Executive Director Les Lynn, with some modest assistance from the board, part-time staff and volunteers, has essentially been working alone. The NAUDL has embraced an ambitious Expansion Plan that seeks dramatically to expand the organization’s bandwith over the next several years. Its goals include establishing seven new Leagues in seven major cities, institutionalizing an additional four existing leagues, developing debate-related curricula, and, beginning in May 2008, hosting a National Urban Debate Championship. -

Casting the Pilot Guest: John Levey [Intro
The West Wing Weekly 0.17: Casting the Pilot Guest: John Levey [Intro Music] HRISHI: You’re listening to a special bonus episode of The West Wing Weekly. I’m Hrishikesh Hirway. JOSH: And I’m Joshua Malina. And this episode first aired now. HRISHI: Today, we’re talking to casting director John Levey. He’s responsible for casting the pilot episode of The West Wing and the first two seasons. JOSH: That’s right. We’ve wanted this interview for a while, but it seems fitting now as we’re reaching the end of the series and the podcast that we go back and take a look at the original assembly of this amazing cast. HRISHI: It’s true. I’m getting a little nostalgic as we reach the end, and yeah, I think going back to the beginning feels right. JOSH: That’s right. Fortune step in, and an unsuccessful audition for SEAL Team put me in the same room with John Levey. HRISHI: Were you auditioning for a show called SEAL Team or were you actually trying to become a member of the Seal Team? JOSH: No, there’s a new show that takes place behind the scenes of a circus and I was going to be the seal trainer. [Hrishi laughs] JOSH: I was very excited about it, but it’s not I [crosstalk] - someone else is going to get that job. HRISHI: [crosstalk] That’s too bad. JOSH: Yeah, it seemed like a good job for me. HRISHI: This might be the time to announce my new role on a show where we work in a factory putting stickers on things and really just kind of approving things with a little bit of wax and a stamp. -

The West Wing Weekly 1:06: “Mr. Willis of Ohio” Guests: Janel Moloney and Ben Casselman [West Wing Episode 1.06 excerpt] Man: Mr. Willis. Mr. Willis of Ohio votes yea. [end excerpt] [Intro Music] JOSH: You’re listening to The West Wing Weekly. I’m Joshua Malina. HRISHI: And I’m Hrishikesh Hirway. Today we’re talking about Episode 6 of Season 1 of The West Wing . It’s called “Mr. Willis of Ohio.” JOSH: Written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Christopher Misiano. HRISHI: Coming up later, we’re going to talk to Janel Moloney. JOSH: Who plays Donna. HRISHI: But first, Josh, where do you want to start? JOSH: The poker game and the atrocious table etiquette. Are you a poker player? You’re not really, are you? HRISHI: No, I mean, I know the rules or I understand them basically, but I’m not really a poker player. JOSH: Then we should play. HRISHI: Ha. JOSH: Uh, I will say I am a big poker player, and it made me cringe a little bit. Very poor poker etiquette being displayed in this particular game, the game that opens the episode. HRISHI: Oh. I would have never noticed that. How, how so? JOSH: Uh, well...couple things that I noticed – splashing the pot and string betting. I think every single participant in this game is splashing the pot. That’s when you make a bet, or you call a bet, you throw your money into the main pot, into the middle, rather than leaving a little space, putting it just in front.
