PRESS RELEASE june 2015 COMMUNIQUE DE PRESSE Nicolas Courjal Nicolas Courjal studied the violin at the Conservatoire de Rennes College of Music before joining Jane Berbié’s singing classes in 1995. He refined his singing with the Jeune Théâtre Lyrique de France opera company, at the Théâtre National de l’Opéra-Comique and with the Wiesbaden opera company in Germany. Nicolas Courjal has performed since 1999 in European establishments such as the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Opéra Bastille in Paris, opera houses in Toulouse, Montpellier, Rennes, Avignon, Toulon, Nice and Tours, the La Fenice opera house in Venice and other Courjal institutions all over the world! He also won the Gerard Arnhold Award at the Wexford Festival Opera in Ireland in 2001, for his role in Jules Massenet’s Sapho. Courjal has worked with a number of conductors, including Pappano, Altinoglu, Steinberg, Baudo, Sir Colin Davis, Arrivabeni, Conlon, Oren, Vladimir Fedosseïev, Myung-whun Chung, Christoph Von Dohnányi and Christoph Eschenbach. News We will have the pleasure of seeing Courjal this year at the London Royal Opera House, in Actualité Rossini’s “William Tell”, from 29 June to 17 July 2015 Courjal will be taking on the role of Gessler in Gioachino Rossini’s four-act masterpiece created in 1829. The experienced artist’s poignant interpretation of this cruel, darkly powerful man once again confirms his status as a talented lyric bass singer.
