  • Tipperary News Part 6
Clonmel Advertiser. 20-4-1822 We regret having to mention a cruel and barbarous murder, attended with circumstances of great audacity, that has taken place on the borders of Tipperary and Kilkenny. A farmer of the name of Morris, at Killemry, near Nine-Mile-House, having become obnoxious to the public disturbers, received a threatening notice some short time back, he having lately come to reside there. On Wednesday night last a cow of his was driven into the bog, where she perished; on Thursday morning he sent two servants, a male and female, to the bog, the male servant to skin the cow and the female to assist him; but while the woman went for a pail of water, three ruffians came, and each of them discharged their arms at him, and lodged several balls and slugs in his body, and then went off. This occurred about midday. No one dared to interfere, either for the prevention of this crime, or to follow in pursuit of the murderers. The sufferer was quite a youth, and had committed no offence, even against the banditti, but that of doing his master’s business. Clonmel Advertiser 24-8-1835 Last Saturday, being the fair day at Carrick-on-Suir, and also a holiday in the Roman Catholic Church, an immense assemblage of the peasantry poured into the town at an early hour from all directions of the surrounding country. The show of cattle was was by no means inferior-but the only disposable commodity , for which a brisk demand appeared evidently conspicuous, was for Feehans brown stout.

They provided us wit h a thrilling encounter then and one can expect similar fare today with little more than a puck of the ball behveen them at the end. Between them, Ih~ club's provided five of Tipperary's All-irel.lnd winning panel, proof positive that hurling is alive and well in the Mid-lipp Division. To David, Edd ie, Paul, liu and Nod llnd indeed all the Tipperary panel, we Sc'ly a big thank you for a most enjoyable year. The Intermediate Final today sees old rivals Gortnahoe-Glcngoole and Moyne 'iempletuohy renew competition, Both desire a return to the senior ranl...s and perceive this final as a vital stepping stone in their quest. Today, we welcome the primary school teachers of the Division as our guests of honour, They have kept our game alive and flourishing in their schools and to them is due no small thanks for lippcrary's All-Ireland success this year in hu rling and camogie.

To win a county senior hurling medal Is possibly the second. Many people would reverse these and argue, as I do, that the winning 01 a county senior hurling title by a parish does more, much more, for the parish spirit and pride than an All-Ireland. Two teams have the chance to raise the spirits to high heavens In their respective parishes today. One, 01 necessity must lose out and hopelully theirs wilt be another day. I hope that todays programme will serve as a suitable souvenir of the occasion lor both players and spectators. In that way we can keep the resolution of the photos high and the size of both sections will be less than one megabyte. Part one is the magazine section and part two is the weekend roundup. The three Cup Finals in Croke Park provided some fine hurling but the crowd was just under 4,000 so it is probably back to the drawing board for those finals. Each needs to be played as a curtain raiser to a game from the Liam McCarthy Championship to create the right atmosphere. The Munster Final had patches of fine hurling and some fine individual displays but lacked the intensity of former classics. Both teams Tipperary and Waterford are continu - ing to make progress. Tipperary still look the best challenger to the champions but Wa - terford battled with heart and could yet make a final four berth. Best wishes ‘til next week from Hurling World. FEATURE Mickey ‘The Rattler’Byrne Issue 11 July 13th 2009 p 3 Rattle ‘em Mickey! Mickey ‘The Rattler’ Byrne from Thurles Sarsfields, held down the right fullback position for Tipperary for 12 championship seasons between 1949 and 1960 and was a substitute on the All-Ireland winning team of 1945.

NENAGH SENIOR HURLERS MAKE UNDER-16 IT TWO FOR FOOTBALLERS TWO IN THE THROUGH TO COUNTY THE NORTH A SENIOR FINAL HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP ALL- IRELAND GLORY FOR NENAGH HANDBALL CLUB! Congratulations to Katie Morris, Sinéad Meagher and Eimear Meagher, our new All-Ireland medal holders. The girls were part of the Munster team that won the Girls 40x20 Interprovincial Team of 10 event in Kingscourt, Cavan. The girls were the only Tipp representatives on the team which is a great achievement for the club. Well done also to Eamonn Spillane who was one of the two Munster team coaches on their great win. VOL. 2 ISSUE 3 APRIL 2014 SEPTEMBER 2013 FINAL CIVIC RECEPTION AT NENAGH TOWN COUNCIL On Friday April 25th, our club was honoured with a civic reception from Nenagh Town Council. This is the highest award the town can award and it was in recognition of the fantastic success our club enjoyed in 2013 in a number of different codes. Firstly the camogie section was honoured because they won the county Junior League and championship while the U18's also 1 captured county championship honours. Both our Scór and handball sections had numerous successes last year and they were recognised, as were our minor hurlers who won the county title. 2 3 Special mention must go to Aislinn O’Brien who was individually recognised because not only was she on the camogie teams who were so successful but she was also on the Nenagh Town AFC teams that won Munster honours at both U16 and Senior level.

  • Tipp Convention 2015 Layout 1
14 THE ANNUAL CONVENTION OF CUMANN LÚTHCHLEAS GAEL, COISTE CHONTAE THIOBRAID ÁRANN 2015 Tuarascáil an Rúnaí 2015 (Tipperary Co Secretary’s Annual Report) eidh cuimhne ar 2015 toisc gur shroicheamar trí chinn de cluichí ceannais na hÉireann. Cé nach raibh bua againn in aon ceann acu, is féidir linn a bheith deimhneach agus bródúil go rabhamar páirteach insan méid sin de laetha móra CLG. BD’fhág Éamon Ó’Sé slán tar éis páirt a ghlacadh sna cluichí ceannais sa sraith agus sa chraobh, ach ar a laghad, bhí sé de shólás aige Craobh na Mumhan a bhuachaint, an t-aon trófaí i rith a réime bhainistíochta. Leanann an dul chun chinn sa pheil agus chuir Na Tráchtálaí marc airde nua síos leis an éacht a rinne siad i Mí na Samhna ag tabhairt an chéad Craobh Peile Chúige ar ais don chontae. It is a privilege to present my ninth report to Tipperary County Convention. 2015 was so full of promise being so near and yet so far away and could have easily turned out a great year. After a bad start losing the Waterford Crystal and League first round our Senior Hurlers had four very impressive League wins on the trot to qualify for the League play-offs. A most disappointing one point loss to Waterford in the League Semi was put aside as we overcame our bogey team Limerick in the Munster Championship with a sixteen point victory in their own Gaelic Grounds. This was followed up with a Munster Final win over Waterford and momentum was building towards an All Ireland Final.
