The variety and number of organisations engaged in this work is remarkable, and the number con- tinues to grow. Twenty years marks a point in the history of the Brighton Declaration, where we can and must review the implementation of this document. The ‘From Brighton to Helsinki’ IWG Progress Report provides examples of initiatives that have been undertaken by Brighton Declaration signatories and Catalyst-subscribers to empower women. In spite of these efforts, the latest data shows that in some areas progress has been limited. Project Overview and Methodology
Project Overview and Methodology o what are our national sporting organisations, federal and state government departments, human rights and anti-discrimination agencies and non-government Sbodies doing to combat racism and prejudice in sport? And what steps have been taken to develop an inclusive, non-discriminatory culture within sport by players, spectators and the broader viewing public? To find an answer to this, over the past six months the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) has been working on a project funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to conduct a survey of these different groups to see what strategies and projects have been put in place to achieve these goals. Project outline The following activities were undertaken as part of this project. l An audit of the existing strategies that have been adopted by selected sporting organisations, codes, government and non-government sports’ agencies and human right institutions, both domestically and internationally (selective), to combat racism and prejudice within sport. Included in this audit are those strategies that utilise sporting events and/or sportspeople to convey a message of cultural inclusion and non-discrimination directed to sporting spectators and the broader viewing public. This audit will identify gaps in the existing strategies and identify potential new strategies. l Gather available baseline data in relation to the level of participation by Indigenous and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities in sport. l Consult broadly with relevant organisations to expand on available material in this area. l Provide the audit report as a basis for DIAC to consider future policy strategies aimed at both addressing racism within sport, as well as promoting an inclusive and non- discriminatory attitude by players, supporters and the broader viewing public. -

NETBALL AUSTRALIA EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER -- SPORT BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT Netball holds a unique position in the Australian sporting landscape. It is a sport with significant and long held participation rates that are the envy of many other Australian sports. It is widely held to be the women’s sport in Australia. In fact, eight out of ten Australian families have had some involvement with netball; either through playing, volunteering, coaching or assisting in the administration of the sport. Netball Australia is the national body for Netball in Australia. Their vision is that every Australian value’s their connection with Netball. In recent times Netball in Australia has gone through extensive change in its position as a leading sport in the country. The profile and investment in women’s sport codes has never been greater and Netball’s aim is to balance its historical amateur status with the full professionalism of its athletes. The sport continues to be supported by Sport Australia, and Netball is primed to leverage its key commercial products of Suncorp Super Netball, Suncorp NetSetGO and the Samsung Australian Diamonds. To ensure Netball Australia continues to deliver on its many strategic priorities, the organisation’s emphasis is on growing the underlying business, while working to realise the untapped value in its asset portfolio. To achieve this, it seeks an Executive General Manager – Sport (EGM Sport) to focus on participation growth and how they effectively engage and communicate with their consumers, community and stakeholders. ROLE PURPOSE Executive General Manager — Sport Reporting to the CEO the role will be responsible for developing and driving the sport’s strategic agenda to increase participation in netball and to support Member Organisations, Associations and Clubs to deliver amazing netball experiences. -

Quickly establishing her skills through her teens, Sharelle’s first taste of international competition came as part of Australia’s Under 21 team in 1996. From there, she was selected in the 1998 Commonwealth Games squad – the youngest member of the team – and was part of the team that won the gold medal in Kuala Lumpur. In total, Sharelle won two gold and two silver medals across four Commonwealth Games. She carried the flag for Australia at the Delhi Games, was a part of three Netball World Cup teams for two wins and played for Australia 118 times, 12 of those as captain in an international career spanning 14 years. She finished with 2520 international goals at an average of just over 21 per Test. Most famously, she took the final shot in the dying seconds of the gripping 1999 World Netball Cup final, capturing the title for the Diamonds in a heart-stopper against New Zealand. -

The Australian team will consist of 50 athletes and officials competing in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cycling and Football. We wish all competitors and officials the very best in their pursuit of success! Since May 2015 the Active Deaf Kids Program led by Irena Farinacci has visited: • Sydney, Dubbo, Central Coast, Perth, Hobart and Deloraine • Over 300 children from 20 schools have been involved in the Multi Sports Day events • The ADK brand is gaining a strong national foothold that has translated into a pleasing acceptance by the Australian Sports Commission to continue funding the program • Planning has commenced on the development of a new Active Deaf Clubs initiative that will see sport clubs becoming more inclusive. -

ATHLETICS AUSTRALIA NOMINATION POLICY 2020 PARALYMPIC GAMES TOKYO, JAPAN 24th AUGUST TO 5th SEPTEMBER 2021 Introduction This document sets out the basis on which Athletics Australia will nominate its team for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, 24 August – 5 September 2021. As the National Federation, Athletics Australia nominates a team to Paralympics Australia (PA) to select based on the number of quota spots provided by the International Federation, World Para Athletics (WPA). Aims The aim of Athletics Australia’s Nomination Policy for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games is to nominate a quality team capable of realising Australia’s vision of being a Top 5 Nation at Benchmark Events. The policy is aligned with the Australian Institute of Sport High Performance strategy and with the Athletics Australia Strategic Plan to achieve gold medals, supported by silver and bronze medals at Paralympic Games and World Para Athletics (WPA) Championships. Specifically, the policy aims to facilitate the following outcomes: • Nominate the most competitive team possible to represent Australia; • Nominate athletes and relay team with the realistic potential to win medals in Tokyo; • Providing Paralympic Games experience to potential 2024 Paralympic Games medalists. 1 Definitions and Interpretation 1.1 Definitions Unless otherwise defined below, capitalised terms in this Nomination Policy have the meaning given to them in the Paralympics Australia General Selection Criteria. Athlete means a person who: (a) participates in the Sport; and (b) is recognised by the National Federation or PA as eligible for nomination to PA for selection to the Team pursuant to this Nomination Policy. Australian Championships means the relevant Australian Championship for each event as nominated by Athletics Australia.
