  • Student Information
april 15 - 23, 2017 Student Information On behalf of our six kids who attended this year, a BIG THANKS to everyone at NYDS! They were blown away and came back inspired, fulfilled and buzzing to share their new skills and confidence with their peers, our school at large and our local community. All had a wonderful time and were extremely well looked after. Well done and thanks for everything! - Vicki, HOD The Arts, Blue Mountain College, West Otago I didn’t think NYDS could get any better, but this year raised the bar even higher! I learnt so much from my tutor, gained life-long friends, confidence in myself and in performing and have so many great memories. At NYDS you’re surrounded by people who encourage you and believe in you. It’s really hard to find a place like this. SO many more kids need to know about it! - Kristin, student, Invercargill Photos by Michael Harris 2016 School Song NYDS is the very best week of my son’s entire year. He gains confidence, camaraderie, a sense of belonging and so much more. NYDS reminds him that the future is full of possibilities. MANY, MANY THANKS for this amazing and empowering opportunity you are creating. Hands down the best activity I know of available to teenagers in the Southern Hemisphere! - Fritha, parent, Hawke’s Bay NYDS is the most accepting, creative and positive place I’ve ever been! It was the best week of my life! - Emma, student, Auckland There is an energy at NYDS that can only be comprehended through direct experience.

  • What Do Labels Look for in an Artist Biography?
WHAT DO LABELS LOOK FOR IN AN ARTIST BIOGRAPHY? The Music Commission polled a selection of industry figures to get some tips on what should be included in an artist bio. As you will see from the feedback received there is no right or wrong way to create a bio as each label you send it to will be looking for different things. Read on for some very helpful tips and pointers on what should and shouldn’t be included in your bio. JARED ABBOT – BREAKIN WRECKWORDZ Artists: Alphabethead, Cyphanetik, Tourettes, Louie Knuxx, Jay Roacher. “Show your personality in your bio. If your lyrics have a tongue and cheek style about them, then try and show that same charm in your bio. If your lyrics are political, show you have a passion for politics. A bio is an opportunity to give further insight into your identity. Also if you have already successfully started building your fan base, include this information in the bio. Don't go into great detail of everything you've done but point me in the right direction so if I read your bio I can jump online and see that you may have obtained popularity in certain crowds or played events that will open you to specific markets.“ ANGELO MUNRO – DEADBOY RECORDS Artists: In Dread Response, Saving Grace, Bad Bride, The Dauntless. “I think the best thing a band can do as a guideline for an artist bio, is state what they have done on the live circuit. Labels like to know that the artists are out there on the road, getting amongst it and playing to people on a regular basis.

Publishing the New Jedi Order Media Industries Collaboration and the Franchise Novel Sean Guynes In April 2014, two years after Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm and its constellation of intellectual properties (IP) in October 2012, Lucasfilm/ Disney announced plans to create the Lucasfilm Story Group that would establish a single canon for the franchise and coordinate world-building efforts across all forthcoming narrative media. Establishing a “true canon—a single, cohesive Star Wars storyline” meant jettisoning the EU of comics, video games, television shows, made-for-TV movies, and novels created since 1977. As the report of the Story Group’s new canon project attested, the EU was largely conceived of as those adventures in the Star Wars storyworld taking place “beyond what is seen on the screen.”1 To save those off-screen stories, the EU was recycled in the new Legends publishing line to encourage continued revenue from no-longer-canonical sources.
