National Landmarks Upper Missouri River Heritage Planning Great Falls Portage 1 May 23, 1966 Period of Significance: 1800-1824 National Register Historic Places The intregrity of the historic 18-mile stretch varies from natural, undisturbed, remote areas, to those completely altered by modern development. It consists of two discontiguous sections of the trail which remain largely as Lewis and Clark 1 10th Street Bridge 2 Belt Jail would have known them. These areas encompass the lower 10th St. across the Missouri River Castner Street, Belt campsite, where (Corps of Discovery) boats were taken out of the water and preperations for the overland trek begun, and the upper campsite, where the expedition resumed exploration. Adams Stone Russell Honeymoon Barn The Russell House is a frame one and a half story structure, clapboarded and painted white, a modest house, without any Cottage NE of Sun River off U.S. 81 exterior ornamentation, but in good structural condition and very little changed since the Russells lived there. The house is 20 S. Russell Drive, Cascade Co. L-shaped, with the entrance on the southeast, sheltered by a roofed wooden porch, with plain columns, railing, and steps, 5 which stretches halfway across the front and wraps around the Monarch Depot 6 Neihart School corner and part way down the east side.
