BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS: The Chief County Detective must possess extensive law enforcement experience. It is preferred that candidates have some leadership or supervisory experience in their prior employment history. The duties of the Chief County Detective are diverse and reports directly to the District Attorney. The Chief is responsible for overseeing the personnel and daily operations of the Lebanon County Detective Bureau, Lebanon County Drug Task Force and Lebanon County Central Booking. The Chief is also responsible for overseeing the Lebanon County Accident Reconstruction Team and all Lebanon County D.U.I. enforcement details under a grant from PennDOT. The Chief is responsible for overseeing the Lebanon County Crime Scene Unit. The Crime Scene Unit can be called upon by County municipal police departments to assist when needed. Must have the ability and desire to take a leading role in major felony investigations handled by the Detective Bureau. It is also expected that the Chief will maintain his own case load of criminal investigations. The Chief is responsible for maintaining working relationships with all of Lebanon County municipal police departments as The Lebanon County Detective Bureau frequently provides aid and assistance to local municipal police departments. The Chief must have a strong working knowledge of finances and budgets as this position will be expected to assist the District Attorney in drafting and managing the budgets of the District Attorney’s Office and Detective Bureau. The Chief will also be expected to attend and provide information at budget hearings with the Lebanon County Commissioners. The Chief is expected to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and available for any emergency situations as needed, including responding to crime scenes and/or assisting municipal police officers by phone. A substantial portion of the investigations handled by the Detective Bureau include elder abuse, financial exploitation, and child abuse or exploitation crimes. The Chief should have experience in handling these types of investigations and must also have a strong interest in investigating these crimes.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

 At least 10 years of experience in law enforcement and supervision.  Valid and current Municipal Police Officers’ Education & Training Commission certification.  Must have a working knowledge of criminal investigations and be willing to assist detectives with cases.  Must have a working knowledge of crime scene investigations and forensics and possess the skills necessary to assist at crime scenes which may include the collection of evidence as well as providing guidance and direction to detectives and municipal police officers.  Be an experienced Police Officer with arrest authority in the Commonwealth of .  Must have a clear criminal record and credit history; and a Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
