CSR & PRO BONO MID YEAR REPORT 2020 5 Destiny Shapers

Destiny Shapers Kenya is a Non-Governmental Organisation that runs a school for vulnerable and orphaned children in the slums in Nairobi City by providing a feeding scheme at KES 30 per pupil, mentorship, guidance and counselling and a child sponsorship programme.

After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya, the government issued directives including the closure of schools until 2021 in a bid to curb the spread of the disease. As a result, all the children at Destiny Shapers were asked to stay at home. This was very challenging considering that most of the children were either orphans or living with parents earning under a USD 2 a day. The 2 meals that the children were guaranteed at the school were no longer available. Destiny Shapers, therefore, began a campaign to feed the children and their families as most of their parents had lost their jobs.

The CSR Committee received tremendous support from the Partners and members of staff and was able to gather sufficient funds to donate food hampers worth KES 2,000 (USD 20) for the families of all the students at Destiny Shapers as well as the families of the teaching staff. These provisions were expected to cater for the families for approximately 20 days.

The CSR Committee was able to donate 2000 reusable 3 ply face masks valued at KES 75,000 (USD 750). The masks were distributed amongst the following prisons:
