The Conference was officially opened by, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) and his wife Mrs Linda Hurley. This was a huge honour for everyone and State Council are excited to announce that the His Excellency the Governor and Mrs Hurley have agreed to grant joint Vice-Regal patronage of ICPA-NSW. The conference was hailed a huge success with over 110 attendees, 25 of which were delegates from around the state who presented their motions around educational concerns that will then be taken up by State Council and put forward to Government Ministers, likeminded Organisations and Departments during the year. Over 21 schools were in attendance and representatives from BCEF, Department of Education, TAFE NSW, TfNSW, NBN, Teachers Federation, RFW, P&C Federation, CCSA, Contact Inc., CWA NSW, Catholic Schools Parents, Country Care Link, ABSA, Telstra and UAC were present over the two days. ICPA-NSW had a great roll up of speakers for this year’s conference: Brendan Maher, CEO R U OK? was the 2018 keynote speaker for ICPA-NSW. Three simple words “Are you ok?” could change someone’s life. R U OK?'s vision is a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. After the closure of VISE late last year Lyn French from far North Qld sourced support from Brian Eagan of Aussie Helpers to be able to continue the service of giving isolated families some relief and help from volunteer retired teachers for up to six weeks at a time. This has been an invaluable service to many rural families. The conference also heard reports from Trudy Noller, Community Engagement Manager, Universities Admission Centre (UAC), Adam Lucas, TAFE NSW State Manager Worldskills and Jon Black, managing Director, TAFE NSW. During day one, members and guest were informed by Tracy Mackey, Early Childhood Director that due to the success of a preschool being set up in Weilmoringle that Sarah Mitchell, Minister for Early Childhood signed off for more good work to happen in the Louth and Wanaaring areas as well.
