Fowler and Kulm (19701, in a predominantly geolgg isal study, used the presence of sublittor31 and planktsnic foraminiferans as an indication of uplift of tfie deep-sea fioor. Their resuits showed tiac sedinenta ana foraminiferans are depositea in the Zscanaba Trough, in the southern part of the Corda Ridge, by turbidity currents with a continental origin. They list 22 species of fararniniferans from the Gorda Rise (See Appendix 13. A more recent study collected geophysical, geological, and biological data from the Gorda Ridge, with particular emphasis on the northern part of the Ridge (Clague et al. 19843. Geological data suggest the presence of widespread low-temperature hydrothermal activity along the axf s of the northern two-thirds of the Corda 3idge. However, the relative age of these vents, their present activity and presence of sulfide deposits are currently unknown. The biological data, again with an emphasis on foraminiferans, indicate relatively high species diversity and high density , perhaps assoc iated with widespread hydrotheraal activity. -

The protoconch and teleoconch morphology of lottiid patellogastropods that inhabited the Central and Eastern Paratethys in the Badenian and Sarmatian are described and illustrated. Eleven species belong- ing to the genera Tectura, Blinia, Flexitectura and Squamitectura are considered as valid: Tectura laeviga- ta (EICHWALD, 1830), T. compressiuscula (EICHWALD, 1830), T. zboroviensis FRIEDBERG, 1928, T. incogni- ta FRIEDBERG, 1928, Blinia angulata (D’ORBIGNY, 1844), B. pseudolaevigata (SINZOV, 1892), B. reussi (SINZOV, 1892), B. sinzovi (KOLESNIKOV, 1935), Flexitectura subcostata (SINZOV, 1892), F. tenuissima (SINZOV, 1892), and Squamitectura squamata (O. ANISTRATENKO, 2001). The type material of species introduced by W. FRIEDBERG (1928) is revised and lectotypes are designated for T. zboroviensis and T. incognita. The taxonomic status and position of this group of species is discussed. Data on palaeogeo- graphic and stratigraphic distribution, variability and the relationships of Middle Miocene Lottiidae GRAY, 1840 are presented. -

ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: PATTERNS IN DIVERSITY AND DISTRIBUTION OF BENTHIC MOLLUSCS ALONG A DEPTH GRADIENT IN THE BAHAMAS Michael Joseph Dowgiallo, Doctor of Philosophy, 2004 Dissertation directed by: Professor Marjorie L. Reaka-Kudla Department of Biology, UMCP Species richness and abundance of benthic bivalve and gastropod molluscs was determined over a depth gradient of 5 - 244 m at Lee Stocking Island, Bahamas by deploying replicate benthic collectors at five sites at 5 m, 14 m, 46 m, 153 m, and 244 m for six months beginning in December 1993. A total of 773 individual molluscs comprising at least 72 taxa were retrieved from the collectors. Analysis of the molluscan fauna that colonized the collectors showed overwhelmingly higher abundance and diversity at the 5 m, 14 m, and 46 m sites as compared to the deeper sites at 153 m and 244 m. Irradiance, temperature, and habitat heterogeneity all declined with depth, coincident with declines in the abundance and diversity of the molluscs. Herbivorous modes of feeding predominated (52%) and carnivorous modes of feeding were common (44%) over the range of depths studied at Lee Stocking Island, but mode of feeding did not change significantly over depth. One bivalve and one gastropod species showed a significant decline in body size with increasing depth. Analysis of data for 960 species of gastropod molluscs from the Western Atlantic Gastropod Database of the Academy of Natural Sciences (ANS) that have ranges including the Bahamas showed a positive correlation between body size of species of gastropods and their geographic ranges. There was also a positive correlation between depth range and the size of the geographic range. -

North Carolina Shell Club members worked countless hours to accurately confirm identities. Collections sometimes arrive with labels and shells mixed. Scientific classifications change. Some classifications are found only in older references. Original labels are included with the shells where possible. Classification herein reflect the latest reference to WoRMS. Some Details There will be two silent auctions on September 17. There are some very cool shells in this and the first auctions. Some are shells not often available in the recent marketplace. Living Seashells of the Tropical Indo-Pacific Photographic guide with 1500+ species covered Andrey Ryanskiy INTRODUCTION, COPYRIGHT, ACKNOWLEDGMENTS INTRODUCTION Seashell or sea shells are the hard exoskeleton of mollusks such as snails, clams, chitons. For most people, acquaintance with mollusks began with empty shells. These shells often delight the eye with a variety of shapes and colors. Conchology studies the mollusk shells and this science dates back to the 17th century. However, modern science - malacology is the study of mollusks as whole organisms. Today more and more people are interacting with ocean - divers, snorkelers, beach goers - all of them often find in the seas not empty shells, but live mollusks - living shells, whose appearance is significantly different from museum specimens. This book serves as a tool for identifying such animals. The book covers the region from the Red Sea to Hawaii, Marshall Islands and Guam. E-mail: jamesgoedert@outlook. com Recent and fossil global scissurellids were monographed by Geiger (2012) and additional species were recently described from Brazil (Pimenta & Geiger 2015). Here, we describe an additional fossil species from shallow water strata of the late Eocene Gries Ranch Formation in Lewis County, Washington State, USA. Marine molluscan fossils were first described from exposures of the Gries Ranch Formation along the Cowlitz River more than 100 years ago (Dickerson 1917; Van Winkle 1918) and monographed 80 years ago by Effinger (1938). Since then, many studies have included molluscan taxa from the Gries Ranch fauna (e.g., Dell’Angelo et al. 2011; Goedert & Raines 2016, and references therein). Deposition of the Gries Ranch Formation likely occurred under subtropical condi- tions (Dickerson 1917; Van Winkle 1918) at depths of less than 100 m according to Effinger (1938), although Hickman (1984) has suggested that the Gries Ranch fauna may have been transported into deep water. -

India: l06(Part 4) : 99-100, 2006 Short Communication REPORT OF PTERYNOTUS PINNATUS SWAINSON (MOLLUSCA : GASTROPODA : MURICIDAE) FROM SHANKARPUR MOHONA, DIGHA, WEST BENGAL During the course of our faunistic survey at Shankarpur Mohana, a single shell of PterYllotus pinnatus (Swainson, 1822) was collected. Though moderately common in Tropical Indo-Pacific, Pterynotus pinnatus was hitherto recorded in India from the coast of Tamil Nadu (Porto Novo & Chennai), Andamans (Subba Rao, N.V & Surya Rao, K.V., 1993; Subba Rao, N.V., 2003). Thus, this species has been for the first time collected from the West Bengal area.
