Planet Earth x Serving God Through Learning Together 3 CHARITY FUN RUNS! 690 PUPILS RAN UP TO 5K Over the last three weeks, Years 7, 8 and 9 have been fundraising for their year group charities. With the help of Mr Nunn, Mrs Geeves and the PE department, everyone took part running, walking or cartwheeling on a special route around the school fields. Even the weather didn’t dampen their spirits and all our Key Stage 3 pupils took to the fields - some wearing wigs, silly hats and even masks! Some brave teachers joined in the run and the atmosphere was great. Plus 50 GC nominated leaders helping to make a positive impact on the world with: • Choosing a local and national charity for each year group. • Charity leader presentations given to every form in Key Stage 3. • Organising a charity run for every student in years 7 to 9, all 690 students. • Running and walking with passion and energy! • Organising 3 separate days of charity stalls for the whole school to enjoy. • Raising hundreds of pounds for Maes Ebbw School, Salvation Army, Lucy Ellis Foundation (Sepsis) British Heart Foundation, Velindre, Plastic Oceans. • Extra spontaneous charity work by several very special students. Serving God Through Learning Together 7 Fundraising for Cancer Research Carla and Lilly, 7V walk the Severn Crossing and back Two pupils in our Year 7 group recently took part in a sponsored walk for Cancer Research UK across the Severn Bridge and back. It was their own idea to do the event and they both arranged everything themselves, giving up their own time in the Easter holidays. We are very proud of these two pupils for their kindness and actions for their chosen charity. They managed to raise an impressive £287. Well done girls an amazing achievement. Jack’s climb... Jack, Year 11, successfully climbed Mount Snowdon in only 2hrs 10mins. He and the team have raised over £750 which they are donating to Newport Mind Charity. Jack said it was an exhausting trip but the reward and personal achievement when they reached the top was fantastic. A great big thank you to all these teachers who stepped up and became charity heroes! They all bravely sat still on the ‘soak a teacher’ stalls! Rhys’s awards Rhys in Year 10 has picked up two impressive awards at a STEM Residential at RAF Wittering. His hard work paid off as he was awarded both the Industrial Cadets Silver Award and the British Science Association CREST Silver Award.
