Vocation Awareness

Holy Spirit Church is in the process of forming a Vocations Committee

Purpose: To pray for and promote Vocations in our parish.

Holy Spirit is very fortunate to have two very dedicated Priest in Fr. Hourican and Fr. Joseph as well as two wonderful Deacons in Richard Griffith and Werner Rose plus one retired Deacon, Bill Nourse.

Reason for this Committee: Parishioners need to have an awareness of all the work that our priest and deacons do for us and to encourage parishioners to consider the religious life for themselves, family or friends.

Additional reason: The Memphis Diocese plans to start a new series of classes for potential Deacons to start in the Fall. Our parish has several members signed up to take these classes which is for both the potential Deacon and their spouse. They will need our prayers.

What will the Committee do: We will urge all parishioners to pray for vocations but the committee will need several members to organize the following: • Provide information for Vocation Awareness for the church bulletin and to be included in Flocknotes (The Serra Club provided an initial list of bulletin clips). • Develop programs to acknowledge vocations at certain times of the year: o World Day of Prayer for Vocations (Third Sunday after Easter) o Priesthood Sunday (Last Sunday in September) o National Vocation Awareness Week (November) • Develop programs to encourage our parish youth to consider religious life. • Provide the parish with data on discerning various religious orders.

Interested in joining this committee – Contact Jim Shields at [email protected]
