  • St Laurence Bronze Assessed Joining Instructions
St Laurence Bronze Assessed Expedition 18th and 19th June 2021 Joining Instructions for Parents and Participants Please read these carefully to ensure we get everyone to the right place at the right time with the right kit The weekend will be run as far as is possible to replicate a DofE Bronze assessed expedition without the camping element. Participants will still be expected to carry full expedition kit, please see kit list for advice on the following. On both days groups will walk independently of an instructor but under distance supervision, times for pick up are assumed, we are assuming groups will stick to the times they have planned, navigate without mistakes and cover ground at the assumed rate. Kit to carry and wear • Boots that must cover the ankle bone with good walking socks. • Walking ( preferably non cotton ) clothing to wear and a full change in a waterproof bag to carry inside the rucksack. No shorts ( ticks are bad in the Mendips ), no strappy tops, proper sports leggings are acceptable but walking trousers are preferable. • Sleeping bag ( In a compression sack and waterproof bag ) and roll mat • Waterproof Jacket and Trousers ( No matter what the forecast ) • A Sunhat and sun cream ( no exceptions here unless on specified medical grounds ) • Full size expedition rucksack ( group kit will have to be carried ) • A substantial packed lunch, 2 Ltrs of water ( minimum ) and the ingredients to make a hot drink on the stove. • Local Organisation Submissions to the Bristol City Council Electoral Review
Local organisation submissions to the Bristol City Council electoral review This PDF document contains all local organisation submissions. Some versions of Adobe allow the viewer to move quickly between bookmarks. Submission to the Local Government Boundaries Commission by the Bishopston, Cotham and Redland Neighbourhood Partnership 15 February 2015 Nick Clark (Chair) Neighbourhood Partnership status This submission on the proposed City of Bristol ward boundary changes is made by the Bishopston, Cotham and Redland Neighbourhood Partnership. We are one of 14 Neighbourhood Partnerships within the City of Bristol, and cover the three current electoral wards of Bishopston, Cotham and Redland. The membership of the Partnership includes all Bristol City Councillors from these wards as well as representatives of local community groups and advocates for local topics of concern. This submission is made independently from that of any political party. As part of the devolution of local authority powers to a local level, we have responsibility for a small devolved budget from Bristol City Council but also for decisions on matters such as minor road schemes, management of parks and street scene, including local services, amenities, appearance and accessibility. We were not made aware of the current boundary consultation until shortly before the initial submission deadline. We have also not been given access to computer software to allow us to measure the effects of different boundary choices on electoral representation. We wish more had been done at an earlier stage to involve Neighbourhood Partnerships in providing their contributions to the current boundary changes. We therefore make the following submission, in reaction to the new boundary proposals, primarily on matters of principle.

  • Palaeolithic and Pleistocene Sites of the Mendip, Bath and Bristol Areas
Proc. Univ. Bristol Spelacol. Soc, 19SlJ, 18(3), 367-389 PALAEOLITHIC AND PLEISTOCENE SITES OF THE MENDIP, BATH AND BRISTOL AREAS RECENT BIBLIOGRAPHY by R. W. MANSFIELD and D. T. DONOVAN Lists of references lo works on the Palaeolithic and Pleistocene of the area were published in these Proceedings in 1954 (vol. 7, no. 1) and 1964 (vol. 10, no. 2). In 1977 (vol. 14, no. 3) these were reprinted, being then out of print, by Hawkins and Tratman who added a list ai' about sixty papers which had come out between 1964 and 1977. The present contribution is an attempt to bring the earlier lists up to date. The 1954 list was intended to include all work before that date, but was very incomplete, as evidenced by the number of older works cited in the later lists, including the present one. In particular, newspaper reports had not been previously included, but are useful for sites such as the Milton Hill (near Wells) bone Fissure, as are a number of references in serials such as the annual reports of the British Association and of the Wells Natural History and Archaeological Society, which are also now noted for the first time. The largest number of new references has been generated by Gough's Cave, Cheddar, which has produced important new material as well as new studies of finds from the older excavations. The original lists covered an area from what is now the northern limit of the County of Avon lo the southern slopes of the Mendips. 8 June 2010 No 17 Hi, Help make Grove Wood a Local Nature Reserve On Thursday June 10th from 4pm, Bristol City Council's Cabinet will be discussing whether Grove Wood should be declared a Local Nature Reserve and whether they should consider compulsory purchasing the woods to secure its future for wildlife and public enjoyment. A Local Nature Reserve designation would ensure that Grove Wood was managed for wildlife, public enjoyment and educational use - just what the Snuff Mills Action Group have been calling for since 2008. You can help make this happen by: 1) Emailing [email protected] no later than noon on Wednesday June 9th [sorry about the short notice] stating why you think the Council should declare an LNR and buy Grove Wood Title your email: Grove Wood - Cabinet Discussions or something similar 2) Asking to speak at the Cabinet Meeting on June 10th - you need to request this in the email you send the Council 3) Joining Snuff Mills Action Group outside the Council House on College Green on Thursday June 10th at 3.30pm to show how much you want this to happen - make and bring banners! Check the Snuff Mills Action Group blog for more information at http://snuffmills.blogspot.com The report to cabinet can be seen by following the links for the 10th June Cabinet meeting at www.bristol.gov.uk/meetings There was also an article in today's Evening Post, see http://tinyurl.com/24cvo6l ------------------------- Area Green Space Plan Consultation As I mentioned in my last update, the AGSP consultation is starting on Monday (14th June).
