  • Radio, Record Reps & Harassment
September 6 2016, Issue 515 Radio, Record Reps & Harassment Sexual harassment of the type that brought down Fox News CEO Roger Ailes has been the subject of much attention. Less understood are the dynamics at play between companies. For instance, the landscape inhabited by reporting radio stations and record label promotion staffers seeking their favor. In more than a dozen off-the-record, background-only and not-for-attribution discussions with female and male regional record reps, label executives and radio pros, Country Aircheck has found an environment where a small number of PDs and MDs may be putting themselves and their companies at risk with unwelcome sexual advances, language and behavior. Further, because of the highly charged business relationships at stake, record companies may be knowingly sending female employees Philadelphia Seen Him: Capitol’s Keith Urban (c) in into problematic environments. • Song Pitching and Traction Monitoring
FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE H.O.L.Y. Republic Nashville (BMLG) Song Pitching CONTENTS and TRACtion Monitoring — Charts Dear Readers; Traction monitoring is a system designed to help people. It is designed to help radio programmers with a valuable programming tool. A great barometer of what is happening across the whole country. Traction is designed to help artists, labels and managers with actionable data they can use as precision GPS to guide touring, geo-targeting and fan-base development. All good things! There is just one issue that has cropped up that needs to be addressed. That is song pitching by a radio station. Briefly explained, it is the equivalent of an artist playing a song a few clicks faster than the record in their live show. It is based on the idea that it’s an imperceptible advantage that makes the station sound better. It also impedes TRACtion’s ability to pick up every song detection. TRACtion creates a fingerprint of every song. That fingerprint is made up of unique identifiers throughout the song that are timed precisely apart. If a station pitches their music 2-3%, it changes the timing of the unique identifiers. We haven’t noticed this as a huge issue, but it has happened. We are making developmental changes that hopefully will fix this issue in the next version. In the meantime, if you are a station who pitches their music, we would like to hear PAGE 2-4 from you. If you are a label, artist, or manager who has reason to believe a station is playing a song and TRACtion is not logging every detection, we would like to hear about those cases.

  • Seminar's Best Not Just for Women Bigger D & Bubba
February 22, 2016, Issue 487 Seminar’s Best Not Just For Women Arguably the “it” panel of CRS 2016 almost didn’t get off the ground. When CRS board member and Scripps VP/Radio Programming and Wichita GM Beverlee Brannigan was approached with the idea of a session focused on women in the business, she didn’t think it was a good idea. “This women in radio panel has been on and off the agenda over the years and frankly, I was pretty bored with the topic,” she said. “When I understood what this was going to be, I was very excited to moderate it.” It’s a good thing, too. Scores Beverlee of women and the few men who were in the Brannigan room raved about it as the seminar’s best. Give A Jam: WYCD/Detroit’s Tim Roberts (third from left) “It’s easy to generalize about women in the industry because with Valory’s George Briner, Dot’s Ashley Campbell, it sounds like we are all one kind of woman,” Brannigan said in Michelle Tigard-Kammerer and Drake White and Valory’s opening “Women In The Industry: Breaking Barriers and Balance.” Justin Moore at the station’s 10 Man Jam last week (2/18). It’s a frustration shared by many, which was apparent in a full room of (mostly) women looking to recognize opportunities and Bigger D & Bubba navigate around barriers real or perceived. Brannigan pointed Many a Country radio personality has dreamed of owning and out that women aspiring to top positions in the industry may find distributing their own show, and Big D & Bubba are among limited access and the panelists discussed how the few who have done it successfully – perhaps the only ones they found – or made – their paths to success.

2021 JUNE 7 CountryInsider.com | Sign Up For Daily Email Here Concerts Are Back. Meet ‘N’ Greets, Not So Much. Lauren Alaina’s a hugger. But when she leaves the Moondance Jam stage in Walker, MN, on Saturday, June 19 — her first real show since early 2020 — she won’t be hugging many people. Nor will she be shaking hands and signing photos for groups of fans before her set. Alaina has decided to forego meet ‘n’ greets as she returns to the road, at least for the time being. So have many other artists, as they adapt to a touring environment where COVID-19 remains an ever-present, if diminished, possibility. “We’re not going to do anything like that on these first few shows,” Trisha McClanahan, Alaina’s manager, tellsCountry Insider. “We want to just get back in the system, get our feet on the ground.” (Continued on page 4) COUNTRY INSIDER TOP 5: A Look At The Country Radio Hall Of Fame’s 2021 Class, Starting With CRB Executive Director RJ Curtis.
