  • Festival of Letters 2014
    DELHI Festival of Letters 2014 Conglemeration of Writers Festival of Letters 2014 (Sahityotsav) was organised in Delhi on a grand scale from 10-15 March 2014 at a few venues, Meghadoot Theatre Complex, Kamani Auditorium and Rabindra Bhawan lawns and Sahitya Akademi auditorium. It is the only inclusive literary festival in the country that truly represents 24 Indian languages and literature in India. Festival of Letters 2014 sought to reach out to the writers of all age groups across the country. Noteworthy feature of this year was a massive ‘Akademi Exhibition’ with rare collage of photographs and texts depicting the journey of the Akademi in the last 60 years. Felicitation of Sahitya Akademi Fellows was held as a part of the celebration of the jubilee year. The events of the festival included Sahitya Akademi Award Presentation Ceremony, Writers’ Meet, Samvatsar and Foundation Day Lectures, Face to Face programmmes, Live Performances of Artists (Loka: The Many Voices), Purvottari: Northern and North-Eastern Writers’ Meet, Felicitation of Akademi Fellows, Young Poets’ Meet, Bal Sahiti: Spin-A-Tale and a National Seminar on ‘Literary Criticism Today: Text, Trends and Issues’. n exhibition depicting the epochs Adown its journey of 60 years of its establishment organised at Rabindra Bhawan lawns, New Delhi was inaugurated on 10 March 2014.     Makers of Indian Literature Mohammad Mujeeb, the Padma Bhushan awardee was an eminent historian, educationist and scholar. Born on 30 October 1902 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in a reputed family, Mohammad MOHAMMAD MUJEEB Mujeeb had the privilege to acquire education in the best national and international institutions. Committed to secular and democratic Mohammad Mujeeb ethos, Mohammad Mujeeb served the nationalist cause through his commitment to academics and education and serving Jamia Millia Islamia (Delhi based Central University) since 1926 as Professor of History and as Vice Chancellor from1948–73. Mohammad Mujeeb mastered several languages including Urdu, English, Russian, German and French. The Indian Muslims is his magnum opus though Mohammad Mujeeb has many more books, dramas and articles in Urdu and English to his credit. Mohammad Mujeeb was widely travelled and represented India at the UNESCO and UN General Assembly. He was member of several prestigious institutions including Taraqqui Urdu Board, Hindustani Talimi Sangh and the Sahitya Akademi. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1965 for his contribution in the field of literature and education. Meher Fatima Hussain is teaching in the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, Jamia Millia Islamia since 2008. Her areas of specialization are Modern Indian History and Minorities Studies and her publications include Monograph Hussain Meher Fatima from Nehru Memorial and Museum Library, Teen Murti and two books titled, Celebrating India: Reflections on Eminent Indian Muslims: 1857–2007 and Syed Zahoor Qasim: The Man, Mission, Milestones. She has published works in edited books and journals of repute.

    June 2012 • Aung San Suu Kyi has finally received her honourary degree from Oxford University. The leader of Myanmar's opposition is being honoured on 20 june at the university's Encaenia ceremony, in which it presents honourary degrees to distinguished people.Suu Kyi, who is making her first visits outside of her native country in 24 years, was awarded the honourary doctorate in civil law in 1993 but was unable to collect it under house arrest in Myanmar.She studied philosophy, politics and economics at St. Hugh's College in Oxford between 1964 and 1967. • Bulu Imam of Jharkhand and Binayak Sen of Chhattisgarh has been invited to receive the Gandhi Foundation International Peace award 2011 at a function to be organized at the House of Lords in the UK on June 12.While individual letter of invitation has been sent to both of them, the citation released by the Gandhi Foundation on its website reads that the duo have been selected for the international peace award for their humanitarian work and their practice of non-violence. The Foundation honours individuals or groups annually based on their work in the field of promoting or practising Gandhian philosophy.
