WKU Chorale to Tour Italy in 2008 The WKU Chorale, which makes its debut this season as the department's ftagship choral ensemble, will tour Northern Italy in May 2008. The trip will take the 35 singers to perform in such places as Florence, Milan, Venice, Tirol and Innsbruck, Austria. This will provide the students an exceptional opportunity to study abroad and perform in some of the cities in which a great amount of choral literature was written, sometimes in the cathedrals in which they were premiered. As President Ransdell states, this trip w ill directly help WKU's "international reach" mission. A limited number of places on this trip arc being held open for alumni.     BOBBY CHARLES LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. Bobby Charles was born Robert Charles Guidry on 21st February 1938 in Abbeville, Louisiana. A native Cajun himself, he recalled that his life “changed for ever” when he re-tuned his parents’ radio set from a local Cajun station to one playing records by Fats Domino. Most successful as a songwriter, he is regarded as one of the founding fathers of swamp pop. His own vocal style was laidback and drawling. His biggest successes were songs other artists covered, such as ‘See You Later Alligator’ by Bill Haley & His Comets; ‘Walking To New Orleans’ by Fats Domino – with whom he recorded a duet of the same song in the 1990s – and ‘(I Don’t Know Why) But I Do’ by Clarence “Frogman” Henry. It allowed him to live off the songwriting royalties for the rest of his life! Two other well-known compositions are ‘The Jealous Kind’, recorded by Joe Cocker, and ‘Tennessee Blues’ which Kris Kristofferson committed to record. Disenchanted with the music business, Bobby disappeared from the music scene in the mid-1960s but returned in 1972 with a self-titled album on the Bearsville label on which he was accompanied by Rick Danko and several other members of the Band and Dr John. Bobby later made a rare live appearance as a guest singer on stage at The Last Waltz, the 1976 farewell concert of the Band, although his contribution was cut from Martin Scorsese’s film of the event. Bobby Charles returned to the studio in later years, recording a European-only album called Clean Water in 1987.

    Roy Philip Gatch Born 27 May, 1919 at Melbeta, Nebraska. In those days women didn't go to hospitals to give birth, so I was born in the farmhouse which my father, Charles Edgar Gatch, had built in 1898. I was the last child of Lela Lovina Gatch (nee Williams). Dr. Farquhar was her doctor. I was raised on the farm near Melbeta. My father must have had good years in the early twenties. I barely remember the carbide lighting system we had. In 1926 my dad paid $1,000.00 to have the electric lines extended from G. M. Crabill's farm to our place and we had electricity. I remember our first radio- a huge Majestic Cabinet model. My dad bought a Willys Knight in 1927. It cost $1,800.00 (Fords were selling for ($650.00). It was a 4 door sedan and was very elegant for it's time. We went on a vacation that summer to Yellowstone Park. Joe Woods bought a Willys Knight too, and we traveled together. On the 4th of July we traveled through snow-cuts which were higher than the cars. Cora Mae, my older sister, and Neil, my older brother, had a snowball fight. My memories were many. The first night the ranger told us that bears would probably get in the garbage cans and to beat on pans to scare them away. Sure enough, that night we were awakened by people beating on pans. Several bears were rummaging through the garbage cans, and paid absolutely no attention to the pan beating.

Ese día nace rockandrollismyaddiction.wordpress.com, un blog en Internet dedicado al análisis sobre discos de blues y rock. Analizar discos y destacar las más variopintas anécdotas que los rodean, resultó una afición apasionante. No sólo hablamos de discos y música, sino también de historia. En un principio, el blog no estaba destinado al público en general y no teníamos ningún interés en que los internautas nos visitasen. Lo concebimos con el único fin de compartir conocimientos musicales entre dos amigos. Se puede decir, que desconocíamos el mundo de los blogs. Tampoco se cuidaba la redacción de los artículos, hasta que nos dimos cuenta gracias a las visitas acumuladas, que cualquier persona interesada en leer algo, desea que se le proporcione la información de la mejor manera posible. Cuando se comienza cualquier proyecto, con independencia de la magnitud que posea, siempre te encuentras con dificultades, preguntas sin respuesta, montones de ideas que no sabes llevar a cabo, situaciones de las que debes salir si quieres que llegue a buen puerto.
