(876) 922-0425-9 Jamaica Labour Party takes majority of seats after preliminary count KINGSTON, Jamaica; The Jamaica Labour Party has secured 49 seats while the People’s National Party won the remaining 14 seats, following the preliminary counting of ballots in all 63 constituencies for the September 3 General Election. The overall voter turnout was approximately 37 per cent, compared to 48.37 per cent in the 2016 General Election. Tomorrow, September 4, each Returning Officer will commence the final count of all the ballots for his/her constituency at a designated counting centre. -END- The following preliminary results are subject to change based on the Returning Officers' Final Count. During the year under review, the organization experienced many challenges and overcame many obstacles; nonetheless the fiscal year was a productive one for the Commission. We have managed to progress by remaining focused on achieving our vision to become a leading world class election management body by optimizing and directing available resources to achieve greater transparency, credibility, integrity and professionalism in election management and administration; vigorously promoting the principles of fairness, accountability and good governance and; ensuring that elections are conducted in accordance with the law thereby giving effect to the will of the people. Once again we have demonstrated our commitment to maintaining the highest standards and integrity for which the Electoral Commission of Jamaica has become known. Through our operational arm, the Electoral Office of Jamaica, we carried out the continuous registration of electors and produced two voters’ lists as scheduled.
