Cal State Fullerton 31-10 a no-hitter Mar. 12. Stevens went 5-for-6 with a single, a , a and two home runs Feb. 18 at Cal State Northridge 2. Rice 35-9 to become the first Husky to hit for the cycle since Jon Vander Griend in 1994. March 12 vs. Santa Clara, Lincecum threw 3. North Carolina 34-8 six and Hagadone three in a 9-0 no-hitter over Santa Clara, the first no-hit game by the Huskies since April 3, 1985, 4. Nebraska 32-6 when Bob Goucher and Pete Tjaarda combined for a rain-shortened, five- no-hitter over Seattle U. (10-0). 5. Oregon State ★ 28-9 6. Alabama 31-12 NO-HITTER UNCOVERS HISTORY: Both the Pac-10 Conference and UW baseball media guides have long 7. Texas 28-15 listed only three no-hitters in Husky history, all during the 1950s. However, the incomplete statistical records for most years 8. Georgia Tech 32-9 prior to the 1990s left plenty of room for other past no-no's that had been lost in history. Since Tim Lincecum and Nick 9. Clemson 29-13 Hagadone combined for their no-hitter March 12 vs. Santa Clara, the existence of four previously unacknowledged Husky 10. Oklahoma 32-10 no-hitters have come to light. First was March 22, 1969, when Gary Huson threw a seven-inning no-hitter in a 6-0 win over 11. Arkansas ★ 30-12 San Jose State in the Huskies' season-opener. On March 30, 1974, Steve Bazoski threw a seven-inning no-hitter in a 9-0 win 12. Notre Dame 32-8 at Portland. On April 14, 1978, Rick Anderson threw 10 innings of no-hit ball in a 0-0 tie vs. Oregon State. The game was 13. Kentucky 30-10 suspended by darkness after 10 and went down in the books as a tie. Finally, on April 3, 1985, Bob Goucher (four innings) 14. South Carolina 30-11 and Pete Tjaarda (one) combined for a rain-shortened, five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Seattle University. 15. Florida State 33-10 NORTHWEST FLAVOR: As is usually the case, the Husky baseball roster is made up primarily of players from ★ 16. Arizona State 28-14 the state of Washington. This year, however, it’s nearly unanimous as 33 of the 35 players on the preseason roster are 17. College of Charleston 33-8 from the state of Washington. The only non-Washingtonians on the team is are freshman Bryce Mooney (Lake 18. North Carolina State 31-13 Oswego, Ore.) and Geoff Nichols (Portland, Ore.). For those unfamiliar with Northwest geography, both Lake Oswego and 19. Houston 28-15 Portland are within a few miles of the border with Washington. Of the 33 in-state players, 28 are from the western part 20. Virginia 34-10 of the state (west of the Cascades). 21. Vanderbilt 25-16 22. UCLA ★ 23-16 PRESEASON ACCOLADES: The preseason publications offered a mixed forecast for the 2006 Husky Baseball 23. Mississippi 26-15 season, but that's not all bad. After all, the Pac-10 preseason coaches' poll, which selected the Dawgs to finish seventh in 24. Mississippi State 29-11 the conference, made the same prognositcation in 2003, when the Dawgs took third. In 2004, the preseason poll slotted 25. Old Dominion 35-8 the UW fifth, but the Huskies took second. The Huskies earned 10 points in the Sports Weekly/ESPN coaches' poll, good for a No. 37 ranking. Washington was ranked No. 38 in the Collegiate Baseball preseason top-40. Collegiate Baseball Sports Weekly / ESPN Coaches’ Poll also selected Tim Lincecum a third-team preseason All-American. The NCBWA chose Lincecum as a second-team All- Top 25 (April 24, 2006 poll) American, while Baseball American put him on the third time. Lincecum also made the Award watch list. 1.
