FIRST SESSION LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION 118

NOW,THEREFORE,BEIT RESOLVED BYTHE MEMBERSOF THE ONE HUNDRED SEVENTH
LEGISLATURE OF NEBRASKA, FIRST SESSION:
1.That wehereby reaffirm oursolemnoaths of office byexpressing a firm resolutiontodefend theUnited States Capitol, the sacred symbolof our democracy,againsteveryactof sedition andinsurrection, whetherfrom citizens of the United States or their elected officials.
2.That weare greatly alarmedthata factious and treasonous spirit manifestedonJanuary 6,2021, ina violentattack on the UnitedStates Capitol inWashington, D.C.,andthat such insurrection was spurred byinfluences emanatingfromsomemembersof the UnitedStates Congress and formerPresident ofthe UnitedStates, DonaldJ.Trump, with a desire to sow discordamong the citizenryandto destroy theoutcome ofthe free and fair electionthat resulted in the election of President Joseph R. Biden.
3.That wefurther protest againsttheactionsof the mob of citizens who committedcountlesscriminalactsresultingin incalculable property damage; causedphysicalinjuriestomany, including bravefirstresponders; and brought abouttragiclossof life, including anofficer ofthe UnitedStates Capitol
Police.We alsoprotest thewords of elected officialsin the state legislatures and the United States Congress which sought to incite such mob.
4.That weexpress distress atthe knowledgethat thisinsurrection was fueledbylies andmisinformationand anofficial abuseofpower bysome local, state,andfederalleaders, including Nebraska'sAttorneyGeneral, Nebraska's
SecretaryofState, andNebraska'sGovernor, whoused the powersand privileges oftheir offices,grantedbythe peoplethemselves, aswell asstate resources, to file frivolous partisan lawsuits designed to usurp the democratic process.

5. That the Legislature requests cooperation from the Governor of
Nebraska, the Nebraska Attorney General, the President of the United States, the President pro tempore of the United States Senate, the Secretary of the
United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of
Representatives, the Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, and the presiding officers of each of the legislative houses in the several states in defending the United States Capitol Building and our democratic election process.
6. That the Clerk of the Legislature shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Governor of Nebraska, the Nebraska Attorney General, the
President of the United States, the President pro tempore of the Senate, the
Secretary of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, and to the presiding officers of each of the legislative houses in the several states.
