BACKGROUND and OBJECTIVE The Rotary Club of Kampala was chartered by the Rotary Interna- tional (RI) - as club No. 17287, effective May 20, 1957. It is the Oldest Rotary Club in Uganda and as such carries a distinctive honor and responsibility to uphold the principles and virtues of Rotary as an ex- ample to the Rotary fraternity in Uganda and the region. This year, the Vocational award will be announced on October 31st 2013. The club will honor a Ugandan individual that has espoused the tenets of vocation and the ideal of service. The Vocational Award or what some call Pride of Workmanship presentations provide an excellent opportunity for Rotary to promote its image, gain access to organizations for vocational visits and develop potential membership, whilst at the same time providing an avenue to recognize individual effort that is achieved in a manner that matches the ideals of Rotary.

The objective of the Vocational Award are: 1. To recognize Vocational Excellence of the highest degree and to honor out- standing contributions by individuals for significant Advancement in their vocational field in Uganda and abroad. 2. To inspire further enthusiasm and to give added reward to the exceptional achiever(s). 3. To set an example to others, particularly youth, of the need to pursue and strive for vocational excellence to the benefit of their discipline in Uganda and beyond. 4.
