It is situated in the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. Presently, ICG SB RAS is an interdisciplinary biological center, which ranks among the leading biological institutions in Russia. The second step of the restructuring of the Federal Research Center Institute of Cytology and Genetics was completed in May 2017. Presently, ICG includes three affiliated branches: 1) Siberian Research Institute of Plant Production and Breeding (SibRIPPB). The institute is located in Krasnoobsk Village and the Novosibirsk rural area. It conducts academic, prospective, and applied studies including the collection, examination, preservation, and utilization of plant genetic resources for obtaining new biological knowledge; expansion and improvement of crop gene pools; 2) Research Institute of Clinical and Experimental Lymphology (RICEL); 3) Research Institute of Internal and Preventive Medicine (RIIPM). RICEL and RIIPM are situated in the Sovetskiy and Oktyabr'skiy districts of Novosibirsk. They conduct academic, prospective, and applied studies in molecular medicine and human genetics. They also provide medical care. Tasks of ICG SB RAS: Solution of top-priority problems in the development of the Russian science and technology sector in plant genetics and breeding, animal genetics and breeding, human genetics, biotechnology, and fundamental medicine by applying methods of molecular genetics, cell biology, and computational biology. Strategic goal: Integrated studies in plant genetics and breeding, animal genetics and breeding, human genetics, fundamental medicine, and biotechnology by applying methods of molecular genetics, cell biology, and computational biology from the generation of academic knowledge to the solution of top priority problems set by Russian agricultural, biotechnological, biomedical, and pharmaceutical industries. Staff: As on January 1, 2019, ICG included 89 scientific units, which employed 1354 members; of them 487 researchers, 2 RAS Advisors, 8 Full Members of the RAS, 4 Corresponding Members of the RAS, 93 Doctors of Science, and 342 Candidates of Science. Postgraduate education and residency training: As on January 1, 2019, ICG trains 97 postgraduates. Publications: The Institute ranks among acknowledged leaders in Russian biology. Numerous works of its researchers are published in Russian and foreign academic journals. In 2018, the overall number of publications in peer-reviewed periodicals exceeded 530. The overall number of ICG publications indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection was 402. In 2018, papers of the researchers of the Institute received over 4412 citations accounted by WoS. Plant Pathology & Quarantine 7(2), 110–135, Doi 10.5943/ppq/7/2/4 Abstract The Ketmen ridge has 84 species belonging to class Urediniomycetes. The class is represented by 11 genera from 6 families. The largest genera are Puccinia (48 species) and Uromyces (12 species). The following species are widely distributed in the territory: Gymnosporangium fusisporum on Cotoneaster spp., Puccinia chrysanthemi on Artemisia spp. and Puccinia menthae on Mentha spp. Rust fungi attack 134 species of host plants. Key words – aecia – host plants – mycobiota – telia – uredinia Introduction Ketmen ridge (Ketpen, Uzynkara) is located to the east of the Zailiysky Alatau (Trans-Ili Alatau) and separated from the Central Tien-Shan by the Kegen depression. This, the most eastern ridge from the northern chains of the Tien Shan, extends in an east-west direction. The Ketmen ridge is more than 300 km long, 40–50 km wide and 3500–4200 m high. The western part of the ridge (about 160 km long) is located in Kazakhstan territory, and the eastern part in China. The highest point of the ridge, in the eastern part of the state border of Kazakhstan, is Nebesnaya peak (3638 m).

Certainly to arrive at our hotel before midnight (only just!) was a new experience. And newly refurbished too. All the rooms we took had ‘living rooms’ attached and the bathrooms even had two entrances. Some joined Vladimir in the bar for a few beers and a chance to unwind after the flight. Day 2 June 15 th Cim Bulak and the Small Almaty Gorge Because the flight to Ust-Kamenogorsk wasn’t until the evening we were able to spend a very pleasant day enjoying the mountains above Almaty which for many of us was a second or third visit, though I don’t think any of us had been in June, clearly an ideal time to be here! As we drove up the road past the Medeo Dam there was plenty to grab our attention out the window. Perhaps the most obvious plant was the impressively tall Ligularia heterophylla with large yellow-flowered heads sometimes over two metres tall. Just as yellow but of a more sprawling nature was acres of Sedum hybridum on rock faces. We passed groups of Aconitum leucostonum and a few bright blue Aconitum songoricum growing amongst birches and willows, whilst Grey Wagtails hopped off the road in front of us.

It is the most vast Central Asian state located at the centre of Eurasia on the crossroad of an- cient historic caravan ways which linked Europe and Asia. The state has a huge potential of natu- ral resources that cased the great diversity of landscapes, ecological systems and species. Accu- mulated knowledge and rich experience of Kazakhstani researches let to develop the effective policy in this field. Biological diversity, as the rest of the natural components was mostly threatened due to such problems as drying up of the Aral Sea, nuclear tests during the forty years at the Soviet test- ing areas, and the practice of industrial and agricultural use. Despite the social and economic dif- ficulties of the transition period the way to ecologically safe and sustainable development is be- coming one of the priority directions of the development Strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan at present time. Development of the National Strategy for implementation of the Convention goals is based on the “Strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Development until the Year 2030”, where priority goals and respective objectives have been clearly identified. We believe that the diversity of the animal and vegetable world that Kazakhstan possesses shall not be lost.

Volume LVIII ANNALI DI BOTANICA 2000 A PRELIMINARY LIST OF RARE OR ENDANGERED IRIDACEAE SPECIES At this meeting the importance of focussing on rare and endangered Iridaceae species in each country became evident. A complete check list of the conservation status of rare and endangered Irid a cea e species is not yet estabilished. Here we present (Appendix) the list of the World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC)* for rare and endangered Iridaceae, according to the IUCN categories. Some problems occur in listing rare and endangered species. For example, although in Israel legislation has protected all Iris species since 1964, so that we have now a complete list, this is not the case in other countries and for other genera. Furthermore, unsolved taxonomic problems confused the issue in some species and the exact distribution of others is still unknown. Here, we want to stimulate colleagues working on Irid a c e a e to send new information to the monitoring centre to improve the current red list. In Italy, we have species of bearded irises which are endangered because of animal and/or human influence. For example, in some areas of Italy, wild boar populations have been promoted to favour hunting, with resulting damage to Iris populations which have been rapidly reduced to a few individuals, as I. relicta Colas, on Monte delle Fate (Southern Lazio), because the boars dig up Iris rhizomes. In other areas, the intensive construction of houses has endangered some populations, for example, in the case of/, setina Colas. (Latina), a bearded Iris that flowers in February.

The Black Sea and Kazakhstan steppes have significant potential for environmen- tal protection. Analysis of biodiversity levels has been facilitated by descriptions of plant communities and quantitative indicators of major faunal groups of soil invertebrates (macrofauna) in the Tobol-Turgai basin (Kostanay region, Kazakhstan). As the structure of soil invertebrate communities is closely associated with vegetation, its assessment can provide insight into the degree of preservation or the depth of disturbance of ecosystems such as those found in the Black Sea and Kazakhstan steppes. Key words: ecological network, Festucetea vaginatae, Festuco-Brometea, Festuco-Puccinellietea, Helianthemo-Thyme- tea, phytocenotic diversity, plant community, soil macrofauna. Izvleček V članku so predstavljeni novi pristopi ocenjevanja naravovarstvene vrednosti rastlinskih združb, ki temeljijo na kvantitativnih kriterijih na podlagi podatkovnih baz in ekološko floristične klasifikacije vegetacije porečja reke Don (regija Rostov). Črnomorske in kazahstanske stepe imajo velik potencial za ohranjanje. Analizo biodiverzitete smo podkrepili z opisi rastlinskih združb in kvantitativnimi indikatorji glavnih skupin talnih nevretenčarjev (makrofavna) v porečju Tobol-Turgai (regija Kostanay, Kazahstan). Struktura združb talnih nevretenčarjev je močno povezana z vegetacijo, zato lahko njena ocena omogoča vpogled v stopnjo ohranje- nosti oziroma motenosti ekosistemov, ki jih najdemo v stepah ob Črnem morju in v Kazahstanu.

    The Altai Mountains Where Four Worlds Meet A Greentours Trip Report 18th July to 2nd August 2002 Led by Paul Cardy and Vladimir Kolbintsev Trip report by Paul Cardy Day 1 Thursday 18th July Journey to Almaty The flights were on time, with a good connection at Frankfurt. Entry formalities at Almaty were rather lengthy, and the arrivals hall was so hot we felt we were experiencing our first sauna. Vladimir met us and we transferred to the hotel. After settling in to our rooms we all met in the café on Floor 3 for beer, vodka and snacks. Day 2 Friday 19th July Cimbulak and Journey to Ust-Kamenogorsk We ate a welcome buffet breakfast before a mini-bus arrived to take us up to Cimbulak for the day. Several Banded Demoiselles were active around the ‘pond’ outside the hotel. Our flight to Ust-Kamenogorsk was not until the evening, so it was good to have the opportunity to visit the mountains above Almaty, the eastern end of the Tien Shan range. Today we were pleased to escape a little from the city heat, and retreat to the mountains. We drove up past the Medeo ice-rink, and the ski-centre. Common Mynahs were noted on the journey. We passed a great variety of flowers including Sedum hybridum and Aconitum leucostomum. Our first stop was to explore some of the flower rich meadows. Nepeta pannonica, Mentha asiatica, Gentiana turkestanorum, and Parnassia palustris were all in flower. Several Apollos drifted over the hillside, and a few Cardinals sped past. Pedicularis dolichorhiza and Dactylorhiza umbrosa were going over but the Delphiniums were in good bloom.

It is conclusive evidence of proper management work, adequate investment decisions, and a reliable performance control and assessment system. SOGAZ’s long-term strategic goals remain unchanged.
