Each “She Talks Utah” event features several engaged, accomplished, and entertaining Utah women who share their personal stories, ideas, and passions surrounding a specific theme. For the 2017 event, we have invited five fabulous Utah women from various backgrounds and sectors to speak briefly about how each has found both her unique voice and the courage to use it in different ways to be a force for good. Come and learn from women who lead in their own distinct ways within their various public spheres. As you listen, think of how you can also influence and lead both informally and formally in meaningful and authentic ways as well. The speeches will be filmed, so prepare to be a lively audience! For the last 30 minutes, attendees will pick up some light refreshments and find dialogue groups to discuss the concepts and topics presented. Girls and women (10 years and older) and those who support them (men can come too!) are welcome to attend! Come and listen, learn, laugh, eat, and dialogue! • Cosponsored by the Relief Society Welcome to BYU Women’S Conference
Cosponsored by the Relief Society Welcome to BYU Women’s Conference Dear Sisters, I am very pleased to welcome you to the 2018 BYU Women’s Conference. We are delighted and grateful that you are here. We are thankful for the cosponsorship and support of the Relief Society in planning the conference. We hope that your experience here will be refreshing, uplifting, and fortifying. The theme this year is Strengthen One Another in the Lord. We are aware of numerous scriptural entreaties to act in charity, to love one another as we love the Lord. We are also taught to bring each other to Christ. We hope in the sessions you attend at Women’s Conference this year you will learn more about how we can strengthen each other in the Lord (see Alma 15:18), how to build in others through our relationships and interactions a deeper faith in Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice, and how to build our own spiritual strength on the foundation of Jesus Christ and “be strong in the power of His might” (see Ephesians 6:10). The philosophies of the world can often lead people to think we can rely on something that differs from the gospel and from prophetic counsel (see the story of Korihor in Alma 30). Our goal in this conference is to help ourselves and others remain steadfastly on the rock of Jesus Christ (see Helaman 5:12). We hope that you will take the opportunity to enjoy the many service opportunities that are available throughout the conference. We especially draw your attention to our Thursday evening service event, where your time will be put to such good use.

www.uvu.edu/elderquest SPRING 2016 President’s Message for March, 2016 Newsletter What a great ride it has been! This is my last newsletter as President of UVU Elder Quest and I want to express great gratitude to everyone of you who made my tenure so rewarding and en- joyable. I am anxious to welcome the talented and spectacular Fran Reiser as the new Presi- dent of UVU Elder Quest for the upcoming two years. Sincere thanks to the Board of Directors who invited me to fill in as Vice-President two and a half years ago, and have tutored me while Dave was ill and have supported me and basically done all the work of running the organization ever since. They have so many skills and talents and have been wonderful to work with on your behalf. Special thanks to the amazing teachers who spend hours and hours and much of their own money preparing outstanding classes. Where else in the world could we find such talented people who are willing to share their expertise and knowledge with a group of senior citizens without monetary compensation??? We are soooo blessed by them. Another big thank you to so many of you who have invited friends to join us, served on committees, contrib- uted to the scholarship fund and shared your talents in so many ways. The organization is only as good as its members. Thanks for joining. AND a BIG thank you for buying your tickets to the Spring Fundraising Seminar to be held April 13. I have challenged all Board and Committee Members to sell at least ten tickets, so don’t be offended if you get hounded to buy from several sources.

  • Jenny Oaks Baker: Mormon, Mom, Musician
MormonTimes http://www.mormontimes.com/print/?id=10201 CLOSE this window Jenny Oaks Baker: Mormon, mom, musician By Laurie Williams Sowby For Mormon Times Published: 2009-08-14 00:23:48 McLEAN, Va. -- Her music has been heard far and wide, but violinist Jenny Oaks Baker will take her music and her message to a home audience Sunday, Aug. 16, when she presents "Music and My Testimony" in a regional Mormon fireside. In addition to speaking and performing solo violin selections, Baker will be joined for some numbers by daughters Laura June, 8, on violin; Hannah Jean, 6, on piano; and Sarah Noelle, 4, on cello. (Son Matthew Dallin, 2, is not yet old enough to start lessons, but his parents expect him to take up the violin or viola soon.) "I'm excited to be able to play close to home and have my kids join in," she says. The fireside, sponsored by the LDS Institute of Religion that serves the northern Virginia area, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the McLean Stake Center. Often, when strangers see the violinist with her four young children, they ask, "Are all these kids yours?'" says Baker, 34, who has cut back on her own performing to enable her children to develop their musical talents. She's frequently mistaken for their nanny or their older sister. But to her kids, she's Mom. In early 2007, Baker announced her decision to retire after seven years as first-chair violinist of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., and performing at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Library of Congress.
